I was getting some pretty good strikes on a jig yesterday. None of them could get up enough speed to penetrate the ice, but I heard some good solid thuds.
You guys honestly are the heart and soul of bass boat anglers. I know there's alot of guys on the bank, and in kayaks that can learn alot from you, randy and Johnny. But IMO yall embody the bass boat angler and understand the things we think about on the water.
Old Lilly pad stands in spring is a favorite time an place for me with a Texas rig creature bait ,don’t peg my sinker. Passing on the good word to buddy’s .great info having a great day everyone best health for all in 2022.
I’ve kinda gotten away from the longer creature baits and more towards the jig. After watching your video I’m going to have to find room in my kayak for a few creature baits. Thank you for the most informative bass fishing channel out there!
Your info and tips are always spot on! Been fishing 40 plus years and never stop learning. Thanks for your honest and no bars held tips. Appreciate it. Pressure is at an all time high on these poor finned friends. Any edge helps😂
The detail in your explanations is so much more than 90% of the other professional bass fisherman in RU-vid. Your up there with Gene Jensen and Glen May.
I use a 4 step approach to flipping and pitching targets. Jig, Tube, Creature and then a pegged Senko. Good video Matt, lets hit that 20 K level so you can send that Hydro Waive to Ohio where fishing is tough.
Another big milestone coming up! I’m subscribed to a lot of fishing channels but both your creativity in rigging and technique utilization along with the candid insights into being a pro make yours one of my favorites.
Thanks so much for always putting out the juice! As a fellow river fisherman, I always really appreciate the mention of river applications in your videos! Keep it up!
Matt if your like me, I have a hard time putting down a jig over any bait but, I’m listening and trying to to the right thing and fish what the conditions tell me,come on 20,000!!!
Sounds like it all makes good sense. If I can remember even a fair percentage of the tips & advice I'm hearing from guys like you, I feel like my bite ratio this year has to improve exponentially over 2021.
I save the videos to a playlist labeled fishing so if I'm trying to remember different techniques that I don't use often I can go through the playlist and find the videos I need at the time
@@OldMysticFantasist I'll put an earbud in one ear and listen to a video while I'm fishing because sometimes I'll zone out and quit paying attention to how I'm fishing a specific lure and catch a fish and not remember what I was just doing and when I'm listening to a video it helps me try the technique being discussed so if I catch one I know exactly what I was doing that might be weird but that's just me lol
Man, was it ever!! Kirby finally got over the Sabin drought! lol. Well deserved, beast defense finally really came alive 4Q. So happy for QB bennett. Super guy. we’re just so pumped around here because will never see the Atlanta Braves and the Bulldogs both same here do this again. Ha ha. have a great day Matt!
That's some really good info, this past year I 1st thru a brush hog bait & got bit, lost it on the next cast didn't have anymore so then I thru a jig & caught several with that, it was in early fall, but thing about the water level is good info! 👍
This is why I am subscribed to your channel and unsubscribed to others Matt, no bull useful information without trying to sell something . One of my favorite ways to fish the grassy ponds I frequent around here is a light Carolina rig (Mojo rig) I smash them with it:) Great vid brotha! Thank you 👍
Thanks for putting your thoughts and experiences out there for anglers to learn from, here in East Texas, both the jig and creature bait put a lot of fish in the boat. Perfect timing for these lures. I believe that the subscribers numbers growing so fast is for exactly what you are doing with the how to and when to use the lures. Thanks again!!!
Was actually just looking at creature baits today and one of the ones I was looking at was the power hawg, it is probably the one plastic I haven't really tried and spent much time with yet. Perfect timing on this video
Agree on the lethargic fish comment. If they aren't biting the jig, switch to a creature and slow down. The 1/4 oz. weight will make you slow down. Especially on rivers they love that creature. My thought is the current keeps those larger flappers moving. Great info Matt
Nice video. Yeah but... one of the most popular go-to baits here on Toledo Bend is a 3/4 oz Football Jig with a Baby Brush Hog trailer. Best of both worlds? Oh yeah, and don’t forget to jam a glass rattle in the trailer.
Good tips Matt.sometimes I like to cut those big flappers off to give those tails s little more movement it then becomes like the old twin tail lizards that you can't find anymore.Thank you Matt.
I’ve always wanted to try out a hydro wave just have never had a chance they seem pretty interesting so may pick one up one day. Love the content you have been very helpful.
That power hawg actually makes a good chatter bait trailer- with a few modifications. I just tear everything off the main body accept the two curly tails at the end, sounds crazy I know but try it- I think you'll be surprised how good it looks. Works on spinner baits to- runs sort of like the little split-tail trailers. The Power Hawg and the Man Bear Pig are great brush hog style baits but- Gambler makes one called the Bacon Rind that has little wings on it- gives it a gliding fall, it works really well in the TVA drain.
Thanks for these great tips and congratulations on the upcoming 20k subscribers!! It will be at 50k in no time at all!! The intro to your videos is great by the way!! :)
Good info again as always. Congrats on your channel growth.... I remember when it was less than 5k subs, lots of good stuff since then. The swag list is gonna be cool for the 20k giveaway. Thanks for the vids and your effort.
Love the content always something of interest to them or past experiences I've had. To me the baby brush hog is king of spring accounted for alot of success
Really good. I agree, on the more isolated trees, texas rig works really well. What is the most weedless jig youve used? Also what rigs do you always have set up on your rods when you tournament fish?
Congrats on the upcoming 20000 subs. I like the creature baits for Carolina rigs also. what's your thoughts on braid or FC for jigs other than heavy punching?
I am a much bigger fan of the jig.... I just don't seem to get the bites on the creature bait... my fishing partner on the other hand is completely the opposite. So, either way it works out. great video.
I got a question, up here in Maryland at Lock Raven reservoir I get about four full vegetation off of a Lotta good points! How can I penetrate the grass and be successful I lose out on all my fish literally three out of 10 times I land. Only certain creature baits work up here, unless I’m not doing something right? And I understand about the bed gliding on its own compared to being pegged that I paid attention to your last segment thanks again for all your tips I’m paying attention
I have fished western impoundments and would use my own experience to breakdown the lake...as well as giving luke clausen a call to make sure IM accurate. Hes from Spokane and has fished all those lakes.
What’s your opinion on flipping switch on a bait caster usually an 8:1 gear ratio I’m looking into one but I’m not completely sold on it what do you think of them Matt
Im going with the Jig most of the time. Sometimes you might just need to change your Jig up not go to something else. So many things you can do with a jig, Color change, size, type, skirt material, ........ Then after that Ill go to a creature bait, but IMO its worth the time to get that jig fish because they mostly are better quality fish. Maybe Im wrong? Its just what I like to do.
I'm finally out of my slump I had a 20 minute window on my way home from work and caught a 2pounder and 10 minutes later a 4 plus pounder both on a swim jig. Plus jimmy Houstons wife needs prayers I think she recently had a seizure but anyone who prays keep them in your prayers
Exactly right I tried my luck a few days ago with a Shakey head and a kvd perfect plastic worm. Got me a 3.5lb largemouth in 48°. Okeechobee color, on the dam side of a pond with some thick wooded cover. I hooked it right off the side of a fallen tree
I like jigs and want to fish them more but I can never find the style I like in a bait shop. So why can’t you flip, pitch, and /or cast a swim jig? I see no reason why you can’t or couldn’t. Pitch or flip in heavy cover and swim it out and 💥 get bites both ways! If one of the other doesn’t produce Lol. Some may disagree but it will cut cost down on tackle and save a lot of time on the water by making one lure have multiple functions. Now I love taxes rig! It’s a bass catching rig hands down. The only way to not catch a bass on a Texas rig is not using it or getting hung in a tree all the time lol God bless brother.
Most swim jigs have a pointed head, while you can use these for lot of things. Skipping boat docks, pitching weeds and so on, they don't come through heavy cover very well. That's why most flipping jigs have a rounder head design.
@@jefferyswisher6975 while that is true, if a pointed slip sinker on a Texas rig can come through wood and grass why couldn’t a swim jig with a pointed head? It’s marketing man it’s all about marketing.
@@Fishingwithfaithoutdoors23 trust me on this one, forty years of flipping and pitching for bass. If you want to spend all day digging your jig out of heavy wood cover or bushes use the swim jig.
a swim jig can be very versatile, but the line tie angle is generally not ideal for flipping wood IMO as it leads to more snags and a more horizontal fall, which is not ideal
@@MattStefanFishing I have a swim jig that the line tie eye is Horizontal and has not so much point to the head, I forget who made it. I love that thing I can put it anywhere! Lol
I almost feel like jigs can be like chatterbaits, so many guys throwing them the fish just ignore them, and if you show them just a little something different you get them biting, but maybe the fish ain't that smart 🤔#overthinkingfisherman
