The Los Ebanos Ferry, also commonly known as “El Chalán,” is a hand-pulled ferry from the U.S. to Mexico located in Los Ebanos, TX, and Gustavo Diaz Ordaz, Tamaulipas. “El Chalán,” is the only international hand-drawn ferry in the U.S., it does not only hold a rich history but is a necessity for present-day community members. Many people consider the ferry a vital part of the community.

The ferry can hold up to three cars and has a sitting area for people to use; it opens for its first ride from the U.S. to Mexico at 8:00 AM and closes at approximately 3:30 PM.

My family were the ones who sold that piece of land to the Texas government the Pena family from my great grandfather and grandfather who sold it to Texas in 1951 and the only reason Texas wanted that spot was because there was already a road leading to that spot from Dias Ordas you can see my great grandmother’s store right at the stop sign next to that white house

@@truchargv my great grandmother’s house got sold like 7 years ago my grandfather’s brother sold it when you come up to the stop sign you can see where it was over looking straight at it my great grand parents got like $215 thousand back in the 50’s that was a lot of money that’s how she paid for house and opened that store she past away in the late 80’s at the age of 96
