This is a great specimen of a 30 year old Nissan 240SX SE. Not surprisingly it needs a few items addressed; however, but this car is owned by Daniel San so the CAR WIZARD 🧙‍♂️ won't be doing the repairs. We still get to check out this great survivor.

240SXs didn't come with sunroofs. The sunroof was an option. There are more SE models without sunroofs than models with sunroofs. I used to work at Nissan Motor Corp back when these were new and owned a 1989 XE coupe (cherry red, manual), and a 1992 SE coupe (black, automatic).. Both had HUD and the sunroof. He's right about the dashboards cracking. Also, Nissan makes really good AC systems.

My first car was an '89 Aztec red coupe, manual, w/ HUD and power everything but no sunroof and no spoiler. This was in 2005. Guy was asking $1000obo, but when he pulled up and popped the hood, the oil cap was sitting on top of the engine off to the side of the hole it was supposed to be threaded into as he had just gotten the oil changed 15 minutes earlier at a shop. I leveraged that to get the price down to $700 lol. Learned so much about drifting and car work with that thing. Had 8 of them since, but really wish I still had that OG coupe.

Just sold one for a friend about 3 months ago, she was headed to a assisted living home, health issues. When I asked her how much, she thought $1500 was too high but would take $ 1000. I placed in on Craigslist Portland and got $6000 with a dozen calls the same day I sold it.. It was complete with a few spots of primer and ran great with 120k on the odometer. She was thrilled and surprised when I handed her all that money, I didn't take a penny BTW. So I wouldn't be surprised to see Danielson get more than he's asking especially after finishes up the repairs.

Got to drive the Nissan 200SX in New Zealand as a traffic patrol car.... SR20DET, auto trans. It was so "undercover" that in one nightshift three burglars were caught in seperate events running away from burglaries...no one suspected it to be Police at all.... On a Sunday drive on the motorway it was like fish in a barrel as the Mercedes and BMW drivers would cut you up "challenging" you...... We had that unbeatable accessory fit out...the blue and red hidden lights and the siren. A genuine 140mph car...so much fun..... The detectives got jealous and the car had to go.....

Ugh! I had a 1992 convertible 240SX that I bought on eBay and had shipped from Arizona for $4200 with only 86,000 miles. I kept it for ten years, did a few minor mods and sold it to a marine at Camp LeJeune for $4200 about 6 years ago. I wished I'd held onto it as it was a blast. Had a '93 red SE hatchback. Had a glass pop-up sunroof where as the coupes usually came with an electric sliding one if I remember. The hatchbacks could also come with the "Super HICAS" 4 wheel steering from the 300Z at the time - mine had it. One of THE best handing cars I have ever owned - and I've owned a bunch. The engine (155 HP) was just OK, definitely not a high rev motor, but decent performance. Couple that with rear wheel drive and a stick and it was truly a point and shoot traffic dodging machine. Have very fond memories of it and never game me a bit of trouble.

Knew the car inside and out as I learned and worked on it myself during that time frame. Of all the cars I owned, I probably miss this one the most. Car was very quick, and handled excellent. Back in the early 2000s, you would surprise a lot of people with it, as they could easily run down into the low 13 second 1/4 mile range with the basic setup I had. Even before they got bought by Renault, they were already slipping in quality. There’s a reason why you see a lot of 90’s Toyota’s (and not quite as many, but still a good bit of 90’s Honda’s) on the roads. It’s because the Nissans rusted and the interior fell apart.

@@StratMatt777 It’s not just a matter of rust - there’s something about Nissan-collector-culture where people don’t take care of their vehicles, drifting them into telephone poles, doing burnouts and destroying clutches, boosting the turbos until the engine blows up, etc. I can tell you as a mechanic who has worked at JDM dealerships that if you’re buying a Japanese collector car from the 80’s-00’s, you really, really, really want to get an original, stock vehicle, because everything fits and works together much more smoothly when it hasn’t been hot-rodded. The dashboard won’t fit in tightly when it’s been taken in & out 300 times, etc.

@@stoneylonesome4062 Exactly! Later models of these cars went to an upgraded 16 valve head that boosted power to 155 hp. These cars offered no upgraded engines - just a single engine offering. There was also a limited edition convertible in addition to the hatchback. The convertible was based on the coupe. Oh, those seatbelts. I went to test drive a VW Corrado SLC with the (then) new VR6 engine. I loved the car and was ready to buy, at least I was until I was getting out of the car after the test drive. As I opened the door I reached down to pull the hood release so that I could check out that amazing engine. When I did that the seatbelt started its retraction process, grabbed me by the neck and stuffed my face into the dashboard. The salesman and my friend wondered where I went all of a sudden and came over to the left side of the car to investigate my disappearance. They spotted me, trapped at an obviously very awkward angle, and my friend burst out in hysterical laughter. The salesman hit the release on the belt and freed me, but at that point I was so p!ssed off that I swore never to buy a car with those stupid belts. I really like the Corrado and would love to buy one now, but if I do one of the first modifications I will make is to replace the passive restraint system with conventional seatbelts. I have no problem wearing my seatbelts and feel weird if I drive without one, and so I don’t need some half-a$$ed system to ‘help’ me put on my belts. The rule that created those belts was a hot mess since it only did the shoulder belt - you still had to fasten the lap belt manually, unlike VW’s non-automated passive restraint system in the ‘70s Rabbit (which had a huge knee bolster to keep you in place instead of submarining under the dash).

Miss all of mine greatly. Owned S13s from '95 until about '17. Those fender extensions that are now both missing are probably hard to find these days. And I would guess there was a sunroof as welding a metal plate over the hole with bondo/paint would be a normal mod for those looking for extra head room and less weight in the car. I also prefer the coupe, had 2 of those and 1 convertible. First coupe was totalled, now I don't know where the convertible or other coupe (KA-T) are at these days.

Literally the nicest guy on RU-vid, not only that you just can tell that he is an honest hard-working guy. That’s why he is so in demand, when Tyler found him He knew right away that he found a competent, intelligent, and mostly the biggest part is his honesty. What an incredible find we have with the wizard! He makes me laugh every time and he gives his straight opinion. The best part is if he doesn’t know, he will find out and research it and become an expert and then only will he give you his opinion. It’s a man who was in the military and knows that it’s all about teaching yourself. I’m sure he will be in his late 80’s still learning and wrenching on cars, retired on some tropical estate 🤟🏻👍🏻👊🏻

These were great looking cars back in the day and I wish Nissan made a modern day version of it still. This car is in far better shape than most 240SX's but still it would be a huge money pit trying to bring it back or even to just keep it going like it is. If you pay $10,000 or $20,000 for this thing you are completely insane in my opinion.

One comment, and this will come as no surprise to anyone here. When a car owner says "these issues will be addressed before you buy it..." make sure the issues are addressed before you go further. I remember test driving a 280ZX turbo at a dealer in 1984, and when I observed that the clutch was in trouble on our test drive, he assured me "that will be fixed before you take delivery." I bought one elsewhere a month later, that had no problems. Nice to see this survivor. Hopefully the buyer doesn't turn this into a "drift car".
