That must have been a really exciting moment for the cinema audience at the time. For years they have been puzzling over who this mysterious Spectre No. 1 is, and finally he shows his face.
It was actually disappointing at the time. The previous films had shown Blofeld as gruff-voiced, dark and menacing, and Donald Pleasance was a bit too "light". The feeling was like, "THAT'S him?" It didn't help that he had just been in The Great Escape and Fantastic Voyage where he also played rather mincy characters.
@@counterinfluencer5684 It would be better if Pleasence played Henderson. Ηis murder would not be true - like Bond in Hong Kong - and here he would say that he is Blofeld's half brother, and Blofeld is the leader.
@@counterinfluencer5684also having Anthony Dawson who played Blofeld previously from behind only in From Russia with love and Thunderball and player Professor Dent in Dr No while his voiced was dubbed would have good to see him or actor similar portraying Blofeld although Pleasence did well he didn’t have that menacing voice and was more known for his role as Dr Loomis in Halloween films.
@@Mr.Coffee576 Yh true, they should have stuck to Anthony Dawson (Body) and Eric Pohlman (Voice) playing him instead of Pleasance or have Telly Savalas taking over in You Only Love Twice who was far more intimidating and ruthless than pleasance ever was.
@@user-ik4kh9lt6d Lazy writing, in my opinion. It would have been a lot better if they'd just done something original, like had an evil genius with a secret base on an island or mountain top, and plenty of nameless henchmen for Bond to cut through like a knife through butter. I blame Trump.
@@thomhardcastle9897 Actually this is original, they made Dr.Evil look like blofeld because the Austin Powers movies are parodies of various James Bond films.
The reason why they changed it to Savalas and Grey is understandable because the actor that plays Blofeld in this movie was called Donald Pleasance and he was quite old so in OHMSS they had to change him because Savalas was more of a physical blofeld ( I don’t know why they got rid of the scar though) and in DAF they couldn’t rehire Savalas or Pleasance because Sean Connery wanted a truckload of money to star in DAF
Maybe 007 is disgusted by the evil face of Ernst Stavro Blofeld in this scene! But he seems to be totally overwhelmed by the thaught, that someone so evil and that hideously disfigured is able to inaugurate this new world order, that leads Ernst Stavro Blofeld zu world domination! And Bond can only look how his enemy is winning!
I love this scene. I love how he "comes out of the shadows", i.e. his bodyguard. Then when he's revealed himself, he pushes the "shadow" away, showing he's no longer content to be hidden. Excellent scene

As for what Craig 'lacks' according to you and snobs like you, please try and remember that both Connery (and to a lesser extent) Moore were both imitators of Cary Grant in _North by Northwest_ to begin with anyway, so originality was never a great ingredient of the Bond movies past or present (the Connery movies imitated whatever was popular in other movies in the 1950's and had a ton of stuff about the space program in _Dr. No_ and _You Only Live Twice_ , two of the Moore ones [ _Live & Let Die_ , _Moonraker_ ] were influenced by Blacksploitation films and _Star Wars_ respectively, and _License To Kill_ was a ripped from the headlines movie about the Colombian narco cartels complete with a bad guy who was as ruthless as Pablo Escobar or El Chapo.) As I just said above, complete originality hasn't really been a feature of the Bond movies (plus one other thing-Craig was actually the closest facially to how Fleming described him, with a cruel mouth [the only deviation was that Craig is a blonde.])
it was great blofeld face remained invisible for 4 movies to keep intrigue and then came face to face with bond in 5th movie with all more intrigue. kudos to producers

Ernst Stavro Blofeld is so larger than life! Sees himself as the most superb being ever! And with his ingenious masterplan he is the unstoppable and invincible overlord! Self-confident and faultless! Already worshipped as a god within his organisation Spectre, he obsesses over almighty power! That's the reason why he will take over world domination! And his super-sexy beige silk pantsuit is totally perfect!
Small moment, but I love the oh-crap look on Osato's face when Bond's helmet is taken off, and the way Bond just looks at him afterwards. Like yeah dude, you fucked up. I may be about to die, but I won't be the only one!
Spectre also skipped over the whole Thunderball thing, so there’s NO buildup before it. It came out of left field. Honestly, they should’ve stuck with Quantum
@@maxfieldnuckels9075 The problem with Blofeld in Spectre is they hype up his involvement so much in the movie, but when him and Bond meet, it falls totally flat. It doesn't help that they cast one of the best villain actors of this generation, and give him a lousy script to work with. :/ Oh, and don't even get me started on that adopted brother twist. Or the piss-poor Return of the Jedi style resolution between Bond and Blofeld on the bridge ("Finish it!").....

To disappoint many others stating comments to this vid before, I interviewed many people that saw this film in 1967 in cinema. As well as men also women said that the reveal of Ernst Stavro Blofeld was more than iconic! One woman said she was firstly shocked by the hideously scarred face but she later saw the sexy pantsuit of Ernst Stavro Blofeld! And this iconic pantsuit and the way he describes his masterplan to take over world domination was that overwhelming for her, that this scene is her most desirable turn on she loves to see!
It would be more interesting if Pleasence played Henderson, with the scar on his face from Singapore in '42 instead of the lost leg. His murder would not be true - like Bond in Hong Kong - and here he would say that the leader is Blofeld, who is his half brother. This would also explain, why Bond and Blofeld doesn't know each other in the next film.
Blofeld didn't blink during this movie, did he? At least I didn't see him blink even once. Donald Pleasence's voice was just the best Blofeld voice. He sounds like a chartered accountant, totally unexcited. It's hilarious.

Mostly if they're compared to "From russia with love" and "Goldfinger", the two iconic 60s bonds. I really like thunderball, and YOLT wasn't bad either, even though connery seemed disenchanted with the role in this one

Im trying to imagine the reaction of the audience when this scene appeared at the big screen. Sean Connery and Donald Pleasance are already immortalized in this iconic film of the 007 franchise.
Adoptive brothers 😂😂😂. I wish the series was more like this now instead of what we have had the last 15 years. All the Brosnan movies needed is a good story arc. Not a major overall like what's happened in the Craig era.
