Imo: The "Order factions" are in general a bit better, because they have less inbuilt wonky stuff. Dwarves can not use magic, but they can adapt to anything more reliably. Skaven have a need to use artillery that can simply annihilate themselves, the "more evil" races tend to have some key function that can simply blow back with a bad dice roll..

Where are the Chaos Dwarfs? Can anyone tell how they compare to the other armies?

Good stuff! I first started my warhammer adventure with total war and immediately fell in love with it. I was sad to learn that the old world had blown up and the game was no longer supported by the time I learned it existed. I've been getting excited about warhammer the old world and just recently stumbled upon WHAP. Learning all the rules is a bit daunting. Have you considered making videos covering an intro to the rules, basic list building resources, etc. For newbies like me to reference?

If you haven't yet. A quick youtube search will lead you to what you're looking for, which already exists.

@@ThePaintedHope my quick RU-vid search pulled up more battle reports and rules comparisons to 8th edition. I guess I'm looking for a more complete noob tutorial. Say I'm just starting out in tabletop war gaming and I've picked WHAP as my first system. I'm looking for a thorough breakdown of rules and mechanics at that level. Do you have any channels that you recommend that offer that kind of content?

Steve keeps mentioning that Orc Boar Boyz only have a 4+ armor and that they were nerfed at some point, but they do have the option for a 3+ as far as I can see (natural armor 6+ on the boar, shield and medium armor upgrade). Maybe I am missing something? Could be it's just that the armor upgrade feels overpriced currently that you don't even consider it? :)

they can only get light armour.

@@MountainMiniatures Ah right, you actually need to upgrade them to Big'Uns to get access to the medium armor upgrade, I totally missed that part. That's lame :/

Enjoyed the video! :-) I have a question, what makes tomb kings tier s? Is it a ‘set list’? Or the spells bubble effect? If it’s the bubble effect, what’s your thoughts now the tomb kings have lost that? What tier would you say they are now?

@@MountainMiniatures they're certainly not as dominating as 8th. But also are not the "average" armies in WAP. They are solidly in A tier. This is an edition of shooting, movement and cavalry, and they're sitting on some of the strongest archers, fast cav, bolt throwers, M5 and dominating heavy cav. Add ontop of it that their core and special infantry have better armour saves, and their lores are much less nerfed compared to the core rulebook rules (with generally more stable magic in WAP). Also, the To Hit Table is more high WS favored than ever and elves have the best WS in the game. All because in 8th they were the best abusers of hordes, Mind Razor and initiative test or die spells doesn't make them average in WAP.

Thinking of getting back into warhammer fantasy this year but I don’t have time for a massive army. Do beastmen work well as a bit of a monster mash?

Beastmen seem to get a boost from the core rules. We've also only really seen the Nurgle mark. Giving them +1T makes them immensely durable in a way they couldn't be done in 8th. Add in the much better lore.
@MountainMiniatures

iv used Mark of Tzeench and Mark of Slannesh more then iv used Nurgle. Nurgle is good, but iv found the other 2 are usually better for the faction
@MoonyPoet
@MoonyPoet Год назад
The only games that stand out to me the most were the numerous games with the Nurgle marked bulls as core. I'll have to go back and search the other games. The lack of hordes definitely helps a lot. Massed attacks shredded Beastmen in 8th. This may be the main buff they got.

Boyz problem is... Orc Warriors that is.. They were pretty fin at the beginning of 6th Ed, 7th Ed and so on... But the power creep fucks them over every time. Every new army gets lowered in costs and gets piles of special rules on top.... if the stupid ass power creep was not so bad, they would be *fine*. Maybe with a permanent S4.. Orcs should be brutal and scary, but I could live with "just" the choppa rule. I guess. But the constant power creep adding shit and lowering costs after boyz were kinda balanced is stupid and it kills them.
@OutsideHistory
@OutsideHistory Год назад
Yeah boys were 5pts in 6th and 7th for a T4 unit with S4 in first round of combat. This increased to 6pts and they got nothing better. While elves got ASF, Dwarfs shieldwall/resolute, etc. etc.

It's a question of quality. Other attempts to make a 9th edition or equivalent for WHF have been made...and really all of them suck. WAP doesn't suck. The author compiled all of the lore from older editions, and then paired it with very common sense rules. WAP is popular because it's better than 8th and all of the other fan projects.
@ja37d-34
@ja37d-34 Год назад
@@mrgoober6320 Is it popular though? And why add the Age of Trash shit, totally loses all cred for me right fucking there. No one plays it here and I live in the same country as the "author".
@nodnil_
@nodnil_ Год назад
@@ja37d-34 It as popular as any edition of fantasy I reckon. Its subjective if its the best edition/format. But in my city the "group" is just me and my friend its pretty damn fun to play. I have fond memories of old 6th edition, but having a very active discord and online community surrounding WAP makes it far more enjoyable to engage with than any older edition. Its alive and a great deal of fun, while being pretty balanced and its gets regular updates. As goober says, its compiles all the best bits of 6th-8th edition and as a neat bonus it has a couple of the lore appropriate aos minis having rules. But if you dont want to play with aos stuff, you dont have to, its very minimal in the army books.

@@nodnil_ Eh, not the best no. Pre-measure and random charge ranegs.. Why? GW introduced pre-measuring because Flames of War, a competitior had it.. No other rwason. How does that make it the best?
@nodnil_
@nodnil_ Год назад
@@ja37d-34 If you have premeasure you've got to have random charges, if not you just measure out your distance at the start of the turn and know if you can/can't make that static charge. Random charges are an extra risk/reward and as an o&g player I like as much randomness as possible. Makes for a fun game and feels dope making that long bomb charge and sucks failing the short ones, but its a game and part of it. Easy to think of reasons for premeasure. It quickens the game up plus it was easier for new player experience. We don't use inches in australia so someone with a few games under their belt can visualise 6" 12", so on very easy, little 10yo jimmy who just started has no idea and gets screwed from it, until they play a few dozen games and then the whole "guess" ranges becomes pointless because they can visualise the distance. You can hold your hands out 30cm apart almost to the mm because of how often you've used a ruler. Might not be the "100% best for everyone" but it makes for good games and linking to what I said previous, based on the brilliant discord a lot of other people like the rules. If you've got your old minis and a mate or two, write up a few lists and play a few games to see if you like it. You can always change some rules to fit your gaming group or if you just dont like it then hold out for the old world or go back and play an edition that has everything you want. Dont always have to be playing the "official release", its a game have fun with it.
