I wouldn’t really consider it a good ending, though. After what we learn about David from playing the game properly, I think we know what happened to that woman he picked up. That’s probably why Ending 1 is titled “Ignorance.”

After watching the video, nope. This game only got 1 good ending and the first ain't it.

Actually, I think that "ignorance" referred to *ignorantly* releasing a horrible evil into the world. You could argue that the woman he picks up on the side of the road is Iris, but I think more likely it's Iris's body being used as a _vessel_ for...whatever that thing was. Sure, turns out David was evil, too, but if they fought back at his apartment, whoever won was probably the _greater_ evil.

The plot and writing of this one also seems more polished, the endings in particular actually make some sense. The dev seems to be getting the hang of it, I'm looking forward to their next projects

HELP YEAH i was about ready to rant about it again to my friends like "sigh, here we go again." there were still a bunch of uncomfortable moments, like how unrealistic iris can be in general, but i was pleasantly surprised by a lot of it. not as bad as the other ones.

If you apologize then that’s David’s evil side coming back and trying to manipulate her “I’m worthless I don’t deserve to be next to a nice person like you” But it doesn’t matter in the end she still dies. So as unfortunate as it is, Uncertainty is the best ending.

@@SmartyPoohBear There are a lot of psychopaths/sociopaths that seem to have genuine empathy for animals, but absolutely none for humans. This can be caused by conditions during their development (severe abuse by humans, but perhaps there was a family pet they could rely on for emotional support, etc.). He also states "I hope my mom didn't kill it" in his inner monologue, which seems to imply he has some care for the cat on his own at least.

Weird hill to die on for that agency. Either way, you were better off not taking them on their offer, it seems like an awful career path for most people.

They actually came to my school asking for the 6th and 7th graders to come to the auditorium to hear the agents say they were looking for models for the fall lineup for the next few months. And the fact they were from NYC made it a big deal too. After the mini-assembly, they asked us to come to their booths if we had any questions. I didn't have to go up because they asked me if I was interested in modeling. I was already in Ballet at the time so I was like "Sure. That sounds like fun so long as I don't miss Ballet practice." They rented out a space inside The Cheesecake Factory when my mom took me there the following day after school. Where they were going to take a few pictures for portfolios. I wasn't paying that much mind to stuff (ADHD and by that point, my mom took me off Ritalin) But I do remember them telling her how perfect I was due to my lovely skin complexion and red hair. Which in all honestly I can't stand. My hair is so thick and heavy that I have to get trimmed/ thinned out every 6 months or I suffer from these awful headaches and neck pain. And back then my hair was really long. But again I turned them down because I was not about to give up pickles.

I also thought she might have been a vampire, with all of her knowledge about the dead and the mirror scene. I guess it was to hint that David was evil, but why specifically bring up vampires? He was an antichrist type, not a vampire. All of the other dead lore was just explaining the characters. Like the mom and the ghoul explanation. Iris looked and acted so much like the stereotypical princess/sacrificial lamb that it felt like she had to have something more. Not even in a "go girlboss go" way, she just acted like a copy-paste from tv tropes. Obviously not every character has to have a whole hour of the game dedicated to them, it just feels like a missed opportunity

That isn't Iris, her hair is different and her eyes appear to be green instead of light blue, and the process for the vessel is mainly the torture, and possibly whatever the fake aunt may have done to him that the mother wasn't suited for (the members of the cult constantly criticized and had a poor opinion of her, might very well be she's just a psycho instead of a true believer, and was rid of so he could be put in someone else's care)

Except after you know how the other endings turn out, it doesn't look that innocent anymore...

As an aspiring game developer I absolutely agree. What I’ve heard from my research is that you always want to make the player feel like their choices matter. Despite having essentially six or more endings there were only three different outcomes, so either they did mess up the endings or they ran out of time

Which is kinda understandable, but this dev already did some games and they are free and don't seem part of a game studio like Nintendo or other, they could take all the time they needed. (Althouth that's my problem, I get blocked because of my time.)

Have found why, this game was for a game jam, they wanted to put more entities and even a "good" ending where Iris is with him but he is still killing but alas the time thing. Still strange that they like to do sequels so much, saying this because A house for Alesa trilogy(?) and in here the "lord" woke up after David dying probably hinting a sequel.

Very true. I also disagree with MBH in that opinion that the new sprite art style adds to the game. It doesn't imho. The dev's unique artstyle+ the custom pixel art and anims had a certain charm to which allowed one to not get too caught up in the writing in "A home for Alesa". Here it's kind of robbed for a style that feels like it belongs to another game entirely and as a result it felt tedious to watch (the puzzles and environeme,nt didn't seem that fun) because there was no excitement at discovering new art works/visual takes from the dev, since David and Iris cycled through the same couple expressions and honestly it felt like two different sprites as Iris had thicker line work :/

Nothing special but they gave an immediate character to David (even if Iris just gave Generic Girl vibes). The tiny leg stubs in House for Lisa always kinda icked me, so I didn't mind them becoming a little less stubby in this. But your point that it's a step towards generic, away from distinctive, is certainly valid. No harm in having your own style. After all, how else would we all instantly recognise Zed Technician games? :D

With the way she acted, that could definitely be possible.

I'll try answering some of those, in the order in which you asked. Dana wasn't of sound mind, as was commented on in the game, probably didn't help that she was a ghoul too. To her what she did was to trigger the awakening. Technically we also don't see David die. Only Iris was explicitly killed, David was just bitten and put through pain (which probably did end up killing him, but Dana probably wasn't aware of that in her state. ). As for the luring, I think it's implied that his killings are caused by both his upbringing (first version of the 4th ending, where he says he wants to inflict the same pain he experienced onto others), and partly influences from the dark lord. The dark lord only had partial control, and didn't do nearly as much damage as he could had he full control ( 1:04:25 "some humanity left in you" for partial control, and "a lot is not enough" for potential scale of damage. When you give in it even says that "a twisted fate awaits humanity", which implies far more damage than just serial killing). The cult also didn't consider the mother as being successful, they explicitly said that she failed awakening the dark lord in David. She was deemed incompetent after the cult leader took his own life and she was made to take over. It didn't seem like she stopped trying, but rather like she was forcibly removed because her attempts weren't good enough. Even as a ghoul she was still trying to awaken him. Her grandpa probably stayed because he wasn't personally in any danger from the cult, and maybe even part of it himself (which might even explain how he knew so much about various types of monsters). He grew up there, and not everyone can just up and leave in those kinda situations either. Even Iris couldn't just leave on her own. Probably monetary reasons, and not wanting to leave everything familiar to you behind and venturing into the unknown, or any other reason really. Doesn't need to be plainly laid out to you. You're just an observer too, not omniscient or smth. Also cults tend to utilize tactics to keep people complacent. Also, the police would definitely be in on it. You're confusing the police in the big city where David lives (where he was found out in the end), with the one from the cult town (whose police, if even existent at all, didn't make any appearance in the story). Because you wouldn't let just any random person in the town do it. His mother was the first one, after she failed David was sent to another member of the cult, but wasn't tortured there, so there's probably a reason that wasn't mentioned as for why others couldn't do it. Maybe it needs to be a family member, or someone close to him(since they only started the torture after he already lived with her for 7 years). The whole thing was orchestrated by the cult, we don't actually know just how much they did behind the scenes, it'd be silly to assume that all they did was write some notes and that's it. Just because it wasn't explicitly and thoroughly explained to you in the game doesn't mean it's a plot hole or smth. The safe room was just a game mechanic thing, it wasn't literally a room where nothing could hurt them. And they also didn't have to wait till sunrise. David just said it once at the beginning with the assumption that a caretaker would arrive to unlock the door in the morning, which probably wouldn't even have happened considering the whole thing was orchestrated by the cult. The monsters aren't weak to sunlight or something like that.

Said this in another comment, but I must mention it about the writing. The moral is just poorly thought out. Essentially, “don’t trust or love abused people because they will always become abusers.” I have known people who were abused by their “parents” in the same way as David, and despite that they are wonderful friends to me. I’d hate to imagine where they would be if everyone just treated them like potential serial killers.

@@ClassyName the game doesn't say you shouldn't trust people who were abused or have a moral of 'don't love anyone who was abused'??? In this case, david IS a serial killer. It is a fact that some men take their abusive childhoods and use it as an excuse to hurt others. The cycle of violence is very real. We can acknowledge this and also not label all abused people as abusers. I don't see the game labelling people abused as children as always destined to become abusers/monsters themselves? I think you misinterpreting a little horror game meant to show a fucked up situation for horror.

Why would City police be part of the cult of a random town? They're not in the same place. I think you misunderstood the police bit since David explicitly tells Iris to go the city with her and leave the town behind, the police that chase David are in a completely different area from the town most of the game takes place in.

Many but not all, life is complex. Our brain and perception is heavily based on some chemicals, a slight imbalance or seeing things just the wrong way is enough to make someone be evil. Sometimes people are just that way. Though the MC being a vessel for a demon from birth probably offsets everything you said in the story as he was literally born to be evil.

@@RenStrive but as i already said, you becoming better from the experience is not because of the suffering itself. at the absolute most, i can only see it as a wake-up call, not a healthy or constructive motivator nor anything that actually facilitates opportunities. if anything, it only serves to close those doors to greater heights, which MIGHT be what facilitates a wake up call in an individual (if they even need one), but again, does not and should not serve as someone’s drive for better. giving suffering even an ounce more credit than that, and i think one risks slipping into mindsets about how it’s good in any way to suffer
