Anna Kendrick watched this video so many times to learn it ....she said it on an interview. She loved it and wanted it to be part of pitch perfect that's why it was added as her audition

To everyone saying that Pitch Perfect stole this song or took all the credit for it... If you look in the credits you can see that they mention them. Also Anna Kendrik clarified in an interview that she didn't invent it, during their pitch bootcamp she saw a video of people doing it, she learned how to do it, and the producers saw her and thought that that should be in the movie. So get your facts straight before you hate.

When I'm Gone is a 1930s folk-song. The Cup Game is a game that most people just played at parties, or watched on TV (Full House), I played it at summer camp. Lulu and the Lampshades did a cover of this song, the same rhythm is used in Call Your Girlfriend, and Screen Door. My opinion, no one stole anything from anyone. Anna Kendrick learned from watching this video over and over, Jason Moore found out and decided to put it in the movie. Then it exploded...

The cup song was really a cup game, for many years. The song originated from a 1930's song by J.E Mountaineer. So Lulu and the lampshades just added the cup game and the song together. Most of everything in this world started somewhere once before and then was recreated, no big deal.

I remember begging my mom to put this video on for me when I was little. Crazy to think that this video will be turning 14 years old in June. Man, how time flies.

This is the prettiest version of the cup song, beautiful harmonies and perfectly in rhythm

It's called a cover. It's done in every opera house, karaoke bar, and d-bag with a guitar's room on the planet. The song was written in the 1930s and has been covered by dozens of musicians and groups over the years. That's part of why American folk music is great. It evolved from that early simple folk tune to what you saw Anna Kendrick and these fine ladies do. I love America.

Pitch Perfect didn't "steal" this song. They never claimed they wrote it or made it up. Anna Kendrick saw this on Reddit & learned it for funsies, & then the producers decided they wanted to have her do it in the movie. She talks about it in interviews. Also, this is an old folk song, so it's not completely Lulu & the Lampshades either. I learned the cup rhythm in 2005 when the whole cup stacking challenge was huge. Lulu & the Lampshades just amazingly combined the two together. Get over it.

Everyone keeps saying how they hate pitch perfect for "copying" them. Guys, chill. 1st off, everyone already knows that these two girls originally put the game and the song together, so why is it still an issue. Secondly, Anna Kendrick said in an interview how she found it. And if we didn't find out somehow, how did we get here? How did we find this video if it wasn't credited? It could've just been a cover and they still got significantly recognized for it. And lastly, they didn't "create" this. The game and the song existed already. Putting them together doesn't mean they invented it or they have the rights to it. I guess they should've said something in the movie not in the credits possibly, but who knows? Maybe they emailed these girls and said this'll be in the movie. And I don't know about you guys, but I have never heard or heard of them complaining that it got used. Really, it just gave them publicity. So everyone needs to pipe down. I'm not insulting anyone, nor do I mean to if I do. And I'm not hating on the movie or this video, I love both of them, I'm just saying I'm a little annoyed at the fact that everyone is making such a big deal.

Everyone! Pitch Perfect DID NOT steal this song! Anna Kendrick did a cover of it. Didn't you realize that they weren't making actual songs they were doing covers when they sang 'Since U Been Gone'? It says in the credits of the movie that they are the clear owners of the Cup Song. And everyone who said that THIS is also a cover, it isn't. They took the 'You're going to miss me when I'm gone' from an older song and added lyrics and then took the popular game in the old days, 'The Cup Game' and mixed them together to get the Cup Song. I hope I helped some confusion.

Lou Bega for covering 'Mambo No.5' or Whitney Houston for covering 'I will always love you'? It wouldn't be the first nor the last time some one's cover of a song outdone the original, and made it far more famous. Get over it. I was scrolling on tiktok and saw somebody do this and remembered I knew how to do it and the song. Learn to do it way before pitch perfect. When I was younger, we learn this at camp. It took me awhile to find this video bc the one from pitch perfect was given way more credit and that’s really sad. I’m glad I knew this video first. Still know how to do it till this day and I’m in my 30s.
