Couldn't agree more on everything you said! Lagers aren't all that hard, just gotta know the tricks! That beer looks so delicious, it's making me thirsty way too early in the day haha

Awesome video, and agree! I have a Vienna larger bubbling away at the moment. Quick pulley tip, swap the top and bottom pulleys, so that you pull down and not up, much more comfortable!

Great Video. Floor malted with decoction makes the best beer! I have the same pully from Kegland. If you swap it top to bottom around then you should be able to pull in a downwards direction. Cheers

I found when I add biofine to the transfer line when I am pressure transfering a beer it does mix in way better than to add it to the fermenting keg. That way, it´s a lot more effective. Having a hoppy Helles almost done that I´ll be fining with biofine!

Awesome vid!! Excited for you to try out biofine. One tip I found: it works much better when beer is cold first. When I add it before crashing down it never quite clears as quickly or as well.

These new yeasts and malts brew clean lagers in a week even without a fancy pressurized fermenter, it’s not 1990 anymore.

I have more respect for brewers with the least cost equipment available. Buddies in our club have $5,000 systems and their beer sucks. I remember seeing when you just started out, BIAB with a homemade brew kettle. A ratcheting pulley is all you need. Ferment in a bucket. I'll agree with you that temperature control is most important. A $50 Craigslist chest freezer was a luxury. That stepped my beers up dramatically. Your DIY Keezer is also nice. 👍

The beer is looking amazing, luckly I have a munich helles that I've just started the cold crash. I did quite a lot of lagers under pressure in the past but lately I switched back to the traditional process (ferment cold for a week) although I close the spunding valve once I raise the temp for the diacetyl rest. Cheers!
@ElementaryBrewingCo
@ElementaryBrewingCo Год назад
Yes spunding is a great way to speed up the process a bit as well. I still like to do things the traditional way as well, get great beers either way, cheers 🍻

One of my favorite recipes. Just finished mine but did not ferment under pressure. I did the typical fermentation schedule with a diacetyl rest. I lagered for a few weeks and I have to say it turned out like yours. Like you said lagers are not hard! Lutra is a very good yeast to speed it up. Great video.

@@ronbarnes5354 I’m super excited! I actually decided I am going to do a pseudo Mexican lager with Lutra so I can turn it around in time for Cinco. Heating up 8 gallons of PBW took like 15 minutes so it’ll for sure shave a ton of time off brew day for me too! Cheers!

You know, with that sweet setup you have in your garage, you could pick up a single burner (induction or whatever) and just do your boil right next to your Clawhammer system! That way you wouldn't have to lug the pot around. Just an idea! I'm feeling inspired!

I’ve had success with lagers at room temp without temp control or pressure fermentation vessels!! I just have my 3 gallon fermonster in a 5 gallon painters bucket submerged in cold water to make sure it doesn’t go through major temp swings. I would say, in my experience, the enemy isn’t high temperatures, it’s major temperature changes in a short period of time.
@ElementaryBrewingCo

I too don't find lagers difficult. Maybe not for a first time brewer, but once you have a few batches under your belt go for it. I've switched to Lutra in the summer. I like your pulley system. Can you flip it over 180* so you can pull down rather than trying to pull the strap up? Looks a bit awkward. Cheers

Did you turn off the heat and recirculation of the mash in the Clawhammer while boiling the mash you pulled off? 🍻
@ElementaryBrewingCo
@ElementaryBrewingCo Год назад
Nope, I let it go the whole time. I suppose if I pulled enough out I would probably need to turn off heat and stop recirculating but since it was only 6quarts out of the full volume it didn’t make too big of a difference.
