The pricing structure from apple is pure genius. The basic iPad with nothing is cheap, but the minute you want something extra like a pencil or storage, it’s so high, the model next up seems tempting and a good buy, until you don’t like the base storage and you end up justifying the apple iPad Pro and paying triple what you intended.
@robertt9342
@robertt9342 2 года назад
Well accessories that don’t come with higher models don’t really entice you to buy higher end models, cause you’d still need the accessory. However, your point about storage is fair and accurate. The purpose is two-fold. 1) it helps create a product differentiation for higher-end buyers where they don’t want to buy a product that the everyone else has. 2) Its designed to have people who can afford to pay more subsidizes the purchasers of the lower end models. Yes they make a profit, but the purpose is to have a lower PM product for volume and and higher PM product for the higher end.
@sloppynyuszi
@sloppynyuszi 2 года назад
@@robertt9342 well the accessories do make the price difference seem artificially smaller. If you buying an iPad Air, and on top of that you buy the $350 dollar keyboard and the $130 pencil. The $200 price difference doesn’t seem that big and the upgrade seems more of a value. Especially if you were eyeing the 256gb. Even entry level iPad if you buy the keyboard I think it’s $150, and the pencil is $100. At $580 you might be asking what’s better, the laminated modern design of the Air with a better chip and sacrifice the keyboard or is the keyboard that important? Maybe we may not agree on why, but I think we both agree that Apple has their price structure really well thought out. I wouldn’t mind a secondary iPad for lighter work and play, but if I want it I need to spend similar amount of money. For the mini I can just use my pencil from the pro, and it will cost me $499, but if I want the entry level one, it’s $329, but I need to buy the other pencil and that’s an extra $100 and general inconvenience. And that $60 saving isn’t much to push one towards it.

iPad 9 is absolutely one of the best deals in tech right now. It’s very capable and I’d recommend it to anyone. However, even though my institution gave me one to use which I have around it just isn’t for me, I use a 12.9” M1 iPad Pro + Magic Keyboard which allows me to leave my laptop at home because of better screen real estate, comparative typing experience, and memory storage. I’d say buy the iPad 9 or iPad Air unless you absolutely know that you would get more use out of the pro as is my situation.
@MitchKirkham

@Water Jogger Do you disagree? All I’m saying is that the base models are great but some people like me need more power and should get more power. I’m in medicine and I can do everything on my iPad Pro that need to do. I’m also an engineer and in the past have absolutely needed a laptop for engineering purposes and software. It is all a use-case question. But if you don’t have the use case for really expensive stuff the base models work great.

I bought the IPad last year in September and it generally works fine for me. I bought it so I could use it every day in school (8h per day), but I kind of regret that I didn’t buy the iPad Air, because sometimes if I want to write something very fast or I want to correct a word very quick and precisely, the pencil isn’t always hitting the exact spot (so my font looks bad) because of the non-laminated display. So I think if you’re really on a budget and you don’t want to spend too much, you should go with the iPad 9. But if u want to use the iPad like me every day in school, you have the money for the iPad Air and you want to use your iPad the next few years I would go with the iPad Air. The Apple Pencil 2nd generation also feels better and you have some other advantages with the iPad Air as well.

I do think this, together with the M1 MacBook Air, is the best overall product Apple makes. I just replaced my Mini 5 with an iPad Pro I got for personal use as a benefit from my company, but if not, I’d really consider this - and if I would consider the 9 (even though I’d probably have waited for an updated Air), then it’s a stellar device for somebody like my dad, as you mentioned, as this is such a well rounded package.

I have had every model of iPad since they first came out, I have upgraded every time a new model was released. I’ve been computer free since I got onto iPad. Recently I had the 2020 12.9” iPad Pro wi-fi cellular 512 GB and I watched all the videos about the 2021 model with the M1 chip, so I upgraded to the 2021 12.9 “ wi-fi cellular iPad Pro 1 TB after hearing how great it was going to be. I have never been more disappointed, the screen resolution wasn’t that much better and the speed was not noticeably faster, I bought the magic keyboard with it so I spent over $2000, and what I’ve finally had to come to terms with is that iPad is never going to give me a true pro experience as long as the apps created are still geared toward the basic iPad user. I’m a professional so I expect pro features, I got this version because I wanted to start filming, editing and uploading RU-vid videos. But that’s still just not going to happen. Apple wants me to have a MacBook in order to use pro apps and I don’t want a MacBook. I like the iPad experience, it’s so much more user friendly, but it is lacking on the app side, even the built in apps are lacking. I keep believing that Apple is going to come out with a version of iOS that really takes the pro models to the next level and I am deeply disappointed and ready to just say goodbye to Apple and get a tablet that actually does have pro features. I feel as though I have been deceived by the reviewers and by Apple and think it is a disservice to the consumer to add the word pro to the device when it is just not a pro device. It’s a waste of space and a waste of the M1 chip when the iPad itself is never going to be advanced enough for the M1 chip to be worthwhile. It’s like putting a V8 engine in an old Volkswagen and driving in a 35 mile an hour lane. You have all this power but Apple is not going to let you see what it can really do. I wouldn’t have even bought the magic keyboard had everyone been honest about the fact that it doesn’t have a row of function keys and although it looks like you have now created a MacBook, you are still just an iPad user, and Apple doesn’t take iPad users seriously. I can see how the company made 1.8 billion dollars in profit last year, it’s by getting people to buy so many devices and not really spending anything on improving the user experience. I might as well have the most basic iPad because that is who the iPad market is focused on. Stop calling things pro if they are not for professionals it’s very deceiving and just a gimmick to get you to waste your money on something that doesn’t live up to the Apple brand experience. I’m supposed to have the best product in the market and it’s not. Not until they create a ipadPro iOS App Store that focuses on giving pro users the apps they deserve. I’m tired of downloading app after app only to find out they have in app purchases , monthly fees, ads and you need to get 5 apps to do a project. The whole market is basically game based and I’m not a gamer, I’m an artist and I writer and want feature rich apps that a pro could be excited about. Just having the age 4+ category on the apps shows how ridiculous the apps are, and when you finally get a good one they stop updating it and it becomes unsupported, it’s just so frustrating that I could cry.

It seems like a bit of overkill to add a tablet to my set up, but I got it because a lot of my textbooks have moved online. Sometimes I wanna mark up on it or sit on a chair and read my textbook for a bit, away from a desk. OR when I'm at school away from my second display, and would like my textbook open AS I write my notes in my MacBook Pro. Would I loved a iPad air? YES, but 1. Money and two, I have already a MacBook Pro that's very capable. IF I got the Air, I think it would have been overkill for just mark up, web browsing and streaming. I believe the iPad 9 is a FANTASTIC buy, it'll do tablet stuff for someone who wants just a tablet or as a companion to a set up. Also I just retired my iPad Mini 2 in 2020, so longevity is definitely a plus with iPads, I had a Nexus WAY BACK THEN, and that thing "lasted" only a year and a half.

i watched many videos this week about ipad , its crazy how different the reviews are for gen 8 and gen 9. The value u are getting from ipad 9 made me to switch from android tablets for the 1st time. I dont know why but the android tablets become so slow and with lags after 2 years , and at this point the xiaomi tab 5 have the same price with the ipad 9 , and the s7+ is more expensive by 20% for 15% less or same performance. I have the ipad9 for 2-3 days now and change m every day life. The multitasking and office jobs are so smooth like u have a laptop with u. i wish apple release some iphones and mac's with the same value in the future . Especially with phones is hard to most ppl to spend 1000$ for a phone that will u change in a year or 2 cause lets be honest u have a phone with u 24x7 its not the lack of updates that make u to change phone but the physical dmg u cause to it over time. So in m case i prefer to spend 1000$ in 4-6 years for 4 different midrange phones.

Why do ppl say design “language.” Mkbhd says it all the time but when you’re just saying that the new iPads were redesigned why is this expressed as “they updated their design language”? This suggests some kind of deep and systematic change that’s very uncharacteristic of the original style but you’re just using this to say that the new iPad models have different screens.

Thank you for helping me make a final decision on which IPad to buy to update my IPad mini I purchased in 2017! I think it’s Gen 7! Anyway, I've been wanting the new Ipad Mini but it's just too expensive and I'm pretty old and I need more viewing area. My biggest concern with Ipad and the new mini is the 64k storage. Is that really enough? Apps are getting larger, well, that's my assumption, and so you run out of storage, are there any options at this point? Again, thanks so much for your review, it was very informative! 🎉😊

I've just bought iPad 9 gen with 64GB (€249). After installing all the apps I currently use there's plenty of free space left. In fact only one third (21.5GB) of the storage is in use but on the other hand I don't have any games or other "heavy" apps. Of course there's the 256GB version but the price is rather high and I haven't seen that many discounts. But in "normal" and light use I would say 64GB is enough.

@@sasropakis Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the 64GB storage on the IPad 9 Gen! I did purchase it from Amazon for $269, then I found a 1st Gen pencil that had great reviews and the most surprising thing I found was a lavender case with a keyboard for $26! WHAT? It really was cheap enough to purchase just to see if it is, in fact, a usable keyboard and I love it! I’m not sure I’ll use it much and then again, it just might be life changing…lol 😳😜😝🥴🤪🥰❤️ It's very thin, keys feel good and overall, it's boss! I'm surprize it took so long for ANY company to add something like center stage. My like 10 years old Logitech had that feature in the software. But after I've never seen it again. And yeah, it is nice that it kept the headphone jack. Even with decent BT headset I still prefer to have the trusty cable. That's something I truly hate from my Tab S7. I'm not a fan of Apple. And for years I saw people getting rip off buying ridiculously overpriced devices. But I gotta admit the last couple year Apple devices are more reasonably priced based on the tech they now have. (as opposed to most Android manufacturer that went from throwing everything and the kitchen sink to stripping more and more every year" And they've finally increase the minimum storage to 64 GB. Which was the one thing I couldn't get behind. Now, if they could replace that lighting with a USB-C but keep the headphone jack, that would be perfect. It's cheap, by today standards. And it does what it's suppose to do exceedingly well. I'm rusty on my iOS skills. So I've been looking to get one that can support the latest a few more to come. So I'm considering getting an iPhone SE. And see hot that goes.

The IPad 9 will be able to do everything you want to do with it. The IPad Air might however be a bit more convenient, if you are willing to spend a bit more money. It has a laminated display which makes writing on it much more accurate, and the screen is a bit bigger and brighter, which could be a huge plus when reading in public spaces. The pen also charges by docking it on top of the iPad magnetically, which will also make sure you don’t lose your pen when traveling.

@tjadejoh
@tjadejoh 2 года назад
@@vishalv9699 thats fair. If 64gb is enough (with extra storage of ICloud), then I would say go with the IPad Air. But if you would want to upgrade the storage, I would have to agree with you and say go with the iPad Pro. You could even check at apple at the refurbished section and go for an iPad Pro 2020, which saves you money and is still more powerful in multicore heavy apps over the newer iPad Air

Does everyone think that this will hold up for years to come when doing light video creation (taking video clips from my phone to create 720p or 1080p videos that are about 5 minutes in length to post to RU-vid)? I tested some of this out in the store and it seemed to do this without even breaking a sweat- but as apps and the OS get more RAM-hungry, I just wonder how long it will last before it starts to slow down, stutter, lag, etc? It's a heck of a deal, and literally costs half as much as the Air right now- while it does really everything the Air can do.

From most useful to least apple products... 1. iPhone - isn't obvious? 2. Macbook - You need a computer... 3. AirPods - Perfect sidekick for you iPhone and Mac. 4. iPad - Mostly for content consumption which you can already do with your phone and computer. This might be higher if you need it for school. Taking notes and stuff. 5. Apple Watch - Just another expensive extension of your phone. I guess it's for you if you don't want to pull out your iPhone to adjust the volume of your music and Apple Pay.
