WHAT IS BIG AMBITIONS?
Big Ambitions is a roleplaying business simulator situated in the open-world city of New York. You start the game as a young kid surviving in the big apple. You have big ambitions for money and success, but you're starting with absolutely nothing.
In Big Ambitions, you control a single person in the middle of the bustling metropolis of New York City. Your goal is to achieve financial success in various ways. Starting at the bottom flipping burgers or collecting garbage to eventually owning and running big businesses and real estate throughout the city.
As you progress, you always need to make sure that you're getting enough sleep, keeping up with your health, and making sure your happiness is sufficient. Increasing your capital can be trickier than you think. As you will learn, money can't buy time.
If you enjoy business simulators, you may enjoy my previous playlist for Startup Company, created by the same developer, Hovgaard Games.

Happy Monday! - Want to make a small adjustment to what I said around 11:20 or so... You can't "sell any retail product in any retail store." Not entirely true. There's two type of retail really... there are stores where your staff give people the product at purchase (fast food, for example), and then there are types where the customer goes and gets it, and brings it to checkout (gift, clothing, electronics store, etc). Don't cross the streams on equipment, and you good. :)

So...I know Charlie is doing his own thing, but for those of you playing along..... I made a midtown 75 cap hairdresser and....WOW. Makes more than my other 5 businesses combined, between 125k and 175k usually per day. Demand varies sure, but rent up those good 75 cap high traffic midtown properties as soon as you can afford them if you see them pop up. Just to lock the building in, then when you can afford it set up whatever business looks good in your game for midtown. Also...headhunters ROCK. Can search for minimum skill, so no more 40ish skill employees in my queue, all start with 75+ with no day demands(4 day, no weekends etc.). Takes a little foresight if you are going to need multiple skills, or just having more headhunters, but WELL worth a desk spot in my opinion.

A suggestion to anyone here struggling to find people in an office. If you are in a situation where you need to find a spesific employee asking for a phone or mousepad, temporarily choose a different uniform preset for this person. They should stand out in the room if the selected uniform is different. If they are currently not working, do the same for the person using the same desk at the time (if they share it with someone else). The limitation is of course that it's only helpfull during business hours. I agree that the game would benefit from a tiny improvement regarding intuitive text, markings, colourcoding or similar to quickly be able find people and see the type of desk etc.

There should be an option to make stores a "chain store" or whatever it's called... That way, if you change prices in one place, it'll automatically do it in the others that are part of the chain

My 2 cents on the cleaners is they are quite a bit cheaper per hour than customer service employees. I just keep cleaning people cleaning and customer service people serving. I've done really good just keeping cleaning people on the job every hour I'm open as far as profits. In the Garment district i just run the stores 6am-10pm and get 2 fulltimers and 2 part timers for every station. I run shifts 6-2 and 2-10 and put the ft employees on the weekdays and pt employees on the weekends. In other districts some of the restaurants for example do great being open 24-7. Of course i don't keep every register maxed out during off hours with them. With the cleaners again though, i just don't want that to be the reason someone walks out without buying anything when I'm making over 500k per day profit. Maybe it is thinking short term but every sale is higher amount of money than what I'm paying someone to clean for an hour and I want all the sales I can get. No criticism because you play great. It's just how I do it. I'm opening multiple business a week and don't want to have to think too much about the existing ones, so i just fully staff and stock them and keep the prices competitive.

I feel like you need full time cleaners for the salons. Not only is it realistic but the business is so busy that you need someone there at least 75% of the time that you’re open
@CharliePryor

The place is clean enough already though. Why incur costs that won’t materially matter for sales? It has no cleanliness issues impacting sales anyways.

Well.. I use one full time cleaner in every store. The reason is.. I always use every customer service employee for 49 hours. If I have a checkout or cash register.. the store is open either 7, 14 or 21 hours an week depending on the type of business. That is 1 or 2 or 3 shifts but each is 7 hours for 7 days. So they have no room to clean. 😊

I do things that are less efficient as well .. Example, I only do one type of insurance, Gold. At one time I just automatically put gold on every single HR Manager. Now at least I only have as many HR Managers with Gold as required to serve anyone who wants Gold or Silver or Bronze insurance and I add another new 'Gold Manager' when they fill up. I know this is less efficient, but I choose to do it anyway. This series convinced me to change this from everyone gets gold to only people who want insurance get gold, so thanks :) I also used to have a pod of 4 Purchase Agents, 1 Logistic Manager, and 2 delivery drivers for every 16 businesses. Then I did an analysis. I picked 64 Businesses as the goal. using my initial pod methos I would have 16 Purchase agents, 4 Logistic Managers, 8 Delivery Drivers (with eight large delivery trucks). This required 2 ten person offices with 20 computers and 4 dual bay warehouses. All the warehouses were completely independent and there was much duplication of supplies. I then shifted to a 1 single bay 'Imports warehouse' instead. In this setup .. all incoming items go into the Imports warehouse first and then to one of 4 warehouses that support the same 64 businesses. In this set up I have 5 Logistics Managers, 4 Purchase Agents, 9 Drivers (8 Large trucks and one Van). Since everything comes into one spot, there is much less duplication of supplies. In this setup I am +1 Logistics Manager and 1 extra driver with a van .. but minus 12 purchase agents and minus one 10-person office full of computers. You can swap the van for a large truck and then add 4 more 'Delivery Warehouses'. That means up to 128 businesses from the one centralized hub. The old way for 128 businesses would take 32 PAs, 8 LMs, 16 Drivers and 40 computer setups. The new way 4 PAs, 9 LMs, 17 Drivers and 13 computer setups. Basically, 1 extra Logistics Manager and extra 1 Driver with a large truck and one extras 2 bay ware house .. but 26 less employees and 27 less PC setups. And much less duplication of supplies. This is an example of more at the beginning (extra driver, van, Logistics Manager early), but it pays off big time when you want to add business number 17 that needs a delivery. I have no issue doing employee cleaning .. but it is just not as efficient in the long run. You said it is more efficient because you could use less HR Managers and reuse employees for two functions. I 'USED' to think this as well. But I actually did the math and it is not true. That is why I brought it up. It is less efficient. Absolutely, one can chose to do something less efficient for roleplaying reasons or just because they want to. I just didn't want people thinking it was actually the most efficient way. For me .. hiring the least amount of employees to get the most work out is my goal for the game. Other people certainly can have other goals. Regardless .. I absolutely LOVE this series (and several others you do). Please don't take my comments to mean I don't enjoy your content or that I think you are horrible at the game. Neither is true. Thanks for the content. I am greatly looking forward to the next video and this entire series.

Whatever works for you! My entire point was that multiple ways of doing it yield the same results. You’ve added a full time worker (increased workforce) for 42 hours of pay a week. I 'think' you get one free build per neighborhood where they just come in and tell you to keep it small, etc and take no action against you. At least that is what I see on Normal difficulty. If that is the case, make sure you make that first build in each other neighborhood angood one. I restarted a new playthrough 2 days ago... In Hells Kitchen and Midtown I made my 1st build in those areas a 50 person Law Office. So far they have not 'rivaled' me in any way. Just the Fred calls you kid .. keep it small type stuff. And I am making more than 60K for each of those right now. I am saving up cash to do the same in Murray Hill.. I am going to have to buy an existing building as none of the good offices or retail locations are available there and I want that one to count as well Also, it seems you are OK to build whatever in Lower Manhattan as no one gets upset and there seems to be no primary rival that owns Lower Manhattan. Again, that is my new playthrough just started.

@CharliePryor
@CharliePryor Месяц назад
Slight, yes. In general your 100% CS people will be paid $8-10 per hour more than a cleaner at 100% cleaning. But there are benefits, at scale, of keeping your organization leaner, with less HR/equipment/insurance needs. Also, since they are working less hours than full time cleaners will require, your wages will not be impacted much by that difference anyways.

Your method of having customer service clean doors work, but I'm not sure if saves you anything. If your CS employees spend 20% cleaning, then every ten full time CS is the same as 8 CS and 2 cleaners. If cleaners have lower salary, you save money with dedicated cleaners. They also won't develop a no cleaning demand to throw your schedule out of whack.
@CharliePryor
@CharliePryor Месяц назад
Once the schedule is set then it’s set. A CS person with 100% cleaning can clear an entire small store in an hour. The cleaning schedule for them get’s smaller as they get trained. For a single business, a cleaner will save money. For an organization with 20-30+ stores doing this over and over, you’ll have significantly less HR need over time than if you were adding cleaners to every business. The savings of less HR reps, less equipment, and less insurance to pay for every day, makes up the difference in salaries on those few hours of cleaning per day. Both methods work equally well the larger your organization gets. There isn’t a materially significant difference. When you are making $1M+ a day later… you aren’t going to care about having 15-20 of your stores spending an extra hundred per day in wages.

@CharliePryor
@CharliePryor Месяц назад
And they work significantly less hours than dedicated cleaners will require, while also costing less HR than adding more employees will. Like I said in another comment, on a single business, a cleaner may save money. When you get dozens of businesses going, the extra cost of HR and extra work time the cleaners add is gonna offset that small wage cost difference. It’s not going to be materially different. A CS rep with 100% cleaning will clean the entire small store in an hour. You only need a few hours a day to keep the clean rating high enough to not impact sales.
