I realized a scary thing: there's never a repair phase in my country. You go to salon, they file off "cuticles", file off color, paint and cure. and then repeat 2-3 weeks later. So far, i have not talked to a technician that knows about nail repair, they just use harder materials to mask it. x.x And they teaching it so too. Kinda..still same mindset with makeup too-just cover problems with more products.
I've learned so much from you! I'm sticking to my weekly gentle manicures with regular nail polish and oiling my nails. My nails have been so beautiful since I started watching your channel and I can grow them long now if I choose! They are so strong!
Wow, this is THE most information I've ever come across on nails. I've watched SOOOO MANY and I've never come across all the tips that I've found here! Thank you so much for sharing and telling the truth instead of telling us that applying even more false nails are the answer to any problem. I have searched for this info for so long. Brilliant video!! 😁♥️
I'm so happy to hear this! Thank you so much! Gels, acrylics etc are not always bad, but I don't believe that they are the solution for damaged nails. The solution is usually much more simple than we think. People often over complicate things. Tomorrow I'm publishing a quick video with my easy and very effective daily routine :)
I got a gel manicure right before COVID and when the nail salons were closed I rather stupidly peeled it off my nails...needless to say, it wrecked the nails. I tried everything for over a year until I found this channel 6 months ago and followed Anna's advice on nails. Currently my nails are almost recovered from my previous disastor. Thank you!
I was completely surprised to learn that I should not use a hardener on my "little flake of a nail." I had to laugh at that comment because that's exactly what I have been left with after years of dip powder nails. It's a vicious cycle - get the dip powder because my nails are so thin that they break deep in the quick, which in turn creates more damage. Each visit to the salon results in yet another layer being buffed off of my poor nails. Thanks so much for your videos. So glad I found you! (From Fort Worth, Texas, USA). (I would love to know what to do about nails that split vertically.)
I have a nail that splits vertically. It is the nail that also presses against a pen when I write. I found keeping a layer of clear polish (I use Sally Hansen's Miracle cure- blue bottle with a gold lid). It's not a miracle cure at all, but it did stop that nail from splitting. Also consider what stresses might be happening to that nail, like bumps or pressure-like mine was from writing. If I stop keeping polish on it, it will start splitting again. But bless your heart because those split can be painful!
Respect! I have gone all natural. Using warm oil soaks. Maxus salve. Gloves when washing dishes. Need to drink more water… nails still brittle. But, the damage is still growing out. You are the only nail tech who has ever cared about the health of clients nails. Thank you. Have learned so much.
1. Washing dishes without gloves 2. Washing hands, a lot. 3. Removing nail polish every 7-10 days, then immediately repainting. 4. Not using any moisturizer at all. I believe these are the contributing factors for the current state of my nails. I have removed my last clear coat and filed them down rather short. They're stained from not using a clear coat under red polish (like Mama always told me to do). I don't have Jojoba oil. I have a little bottle of some kind of "Lavender" oil. I've been using that, and some hand lotion that doesn't irritate my eczema, for the last few days. I can already see a difference. In the past, I have had acrylics. But I decided to stop that completely. Not that I got them done regularly anyway. Right now I just want to get my nails and hands in better condition. I will see what I can do about getting some Jojoba oil. Thank you for your wonderful videos. From Oklahoma, USA. 💅
Lavender Essential oil should not be used alone, it's too strong. any Essential oil should be used in small amounts diluted in a carrier oil like jojoba oil, ect
I overfiled my nails with an efile because some gel polish I had did not want to come off and they became white at the tips (also because of pushing and ripping leftover gel from the nail) and super sensitive, I’ve started doing a castor oil soak multiple times a week to see if there was any improvement and it works great, just patiently waiting for them to grow so that I can start wearing polish again but this time being not as reckless as before to not ruin them again 🖤
I’m transitioning from acrylic nails and breaking my nail biting habit. My nails are damaged and your videos have helped me understand the whole process. I did not know the hardening polish isn’t good for damaged nails such as mine. Thank you!!!
You have got my attention! I'm a 36-year cosmetologist, only focusing on hair and keeping it healthy and strong. After years of having my nails destroyed over and over, I've had it and I'm educating myself and will be doing natural nails for my customers and for all those who are also sick and tired of not having healthy strong nails. Thanks for all your content and education. Can't get enough of dazzle dry and MelodySuzie equipment. Just hard to find the Erica diamond files that are not course. Again, Thank you and I will continue to watch and learn only from you. Much ❤️
*SO* much good information! I was guilty of getting gel nails thinking I was somehow protecting my natural nails...boy was that white lie exposed when I could no longer afford to keep them. It's been a decade since and I wish I could go back in time and tell myself to NOT do acrylic and gel nails (something I did for 20 years). Now I'm trying to break the habit of using my nails as tools and to at least put gloves on when doing dishes and cleaning because my nails are NOT happy! I've already tossed the nail clippers and have switched to exclusively filling my nails down. I've done a couple warm nail soaks, started to use cuticle oil every single time I wash my hands (which is a lot...germaphobe) and so so gently pushing the proximal nail fold down every couple days.
I used to push my proximal fold every couple of days and it was top much for my nails. I now do it once a week and the day I do my manicure. I apply the kerasal that she mentioned a few times 2 or 3 xs a week. Right now i have on clear polish because I had a nail break and Im waiting for it to grow out
Hello Anna..after years of damage from wraps and dip I’ve begun my journey to restore my natural nails..I have learned so much from you already..it’s been 3 weeks…ty for your videos
You nailed it!!! Way to raise the bar and up your game. For anyone new to the channel Anna knows what she is talking about. She will guide you and yours towards beautiful natural nails. I love you Anna for the gifts you bring in your kind and loving way! 🌸V
Exactly 💯 on the spot! After 7 years of Shellac and later acrylic, I developed allergy and bumpy, unhealthy nails. I watched your videos and helped me a lot! Thanks Anna!
So much great info!! Im.a nail technician myself. I even learned some new things from this video. So many nail technicians do nails and do not care at all about the health of the nails. Only the outcome. I've always believed keeping the nails in good health while also providing beautiful manicures and enhancements are both equally important
I’ve learned so much in the few videos that I’ve watched. On my nail care journey after years of nail abuse. I never thought of my nails like hair and now A LOT makes sense.
I’m rededicating myself to following your advice, Anna. I’ve been watching your videos for a while and am trying to recover from years of SNS and then a year of “trying” to grow out the damage but using press-ons. While they aren’t as damaged as they used to be, they’re still not great. My New Year’s resolution is weekly oil soaks, multiple uses of jojoba during the day and only using Dazzle Dry. I just took my first picture and am looking forward to seeing my results in a few months. Thank you for educating us and sharing your knowledge. Happy holidays!
Thank you for this gem of a video! My nails were destroyed by an application of acrylic tips, and I'm determined to never let that happen again. Thank you so much for showing how to really care for our nails.
Hey Im new. I dont have nice nails and have resorted to gel, acrylic and dip in the past but it just makes my nails worse. I just started using the urea cream you suggested and it is a GAME CHANGER. I will be following you from now on. Looking forward to being educated and improving my natural nails. 😊🎉❤
You have got my attention! I'm a 36-year cosmetologist, only focusing on hair and keeping it healthy and strong. After years of having my nails destroyed over and over, I've had it and I'm educating mysel
Hello Anna, I have just discover you 1 week ago and saw lots of your videos from that moment. Your technical explanations about nail growth are very clear and helpfull. My nails are naturally quite smooth and unfortunately I tried gel polish few times per years in the 10 last years 😪 which made them thiner and more fragile. I started the 'recovery cure' , daily following your precious advices. Thank you Anna for all your time and shares 🌺
I'm glad I found you! I decided to have my dip removed and nails trimmed down. My nails are naturally soft and bendy. They use to peel when I was young. I was also a long time nail bitter. Hence the reason I went to dip. I'm going to attempt to give my nails a break and get them healthy! All tips are greatly appreciated. 🥰
My nail tech would take a fake nail and slide it under my acrylic to pop off. My nails started burning and i just couldn't take it anymore. I'm going back natural and glad i found your channel.
Omg, that is NOT a way this should be done. Pure torture and very dangerous. You can totally rip the nail plate off the nail bed. Very careless and risky.
I appreciate your honest feedback on what really works and how to avoid the fake claims companies make. As someone with damaged, thin nails after bariatric surgery and trying to fix myself, this was very good information.
I love your videos and really appreciate the ones showing the different colors on your husband's nails. The videos, and you, are so professional and informative. I've started using Dazzle Dry products and am absolutely thrilled with the quick drying feature and my nails are already starting to look better. Thank you.
I love your channel and find you immensely helpful and knowledgeable. It is my belief that there are some people, me included, that should never ever consider having a gel manicure. My nails are naturally soft and bendy, and always have been. They are healthy, so I don’t believe there are any issues or problems with them, but on the two occasions I have had a gel polish manicure, it has taken months for my nails to repair from the weakness and damage caused once the gel polish has been removed. It leaves them incredibly fragile and weak and I just don’t think thin nails are up to it.
Hi Nina! It also depends how the gel polish was removed. There shouldn’t be that much damage. Sadly many nail techs force the product off the nails peeling off layers of the nails with it
I always love the way gel polish looks, but I was scared to try it because my nails peel. I broke down and treated myself to a gel manicure for my birthday in June. I loved the way it looked. I kept it on for probably a month because I was scared to soak it off. I ended up soaking my nails in warm water with Dawn dish liquid. Then I took hand sanitizer and rubbed the nails with it after very lightly filing the shine. Little by little the gel eventually came off with a little "picking". My nails were a little damaged but not as bad as I feared. That was my first and last time. Lol. Still trying now at the end of October to get my nails healthy again. But they were not super healthy before the gel due to the peeling. I keep my nails very short and I've always used clippers to keep them short instead of filing them. Could that be why they peel?
This is an amazing channel. I have 2 questions. 1. My nails are very healthy, however they are naturally so thin. Which means that I get a lot of breakage. I know short nails are more mantainable but I do love the way long nails look. Is there anything I can do to thicken my nails? 2. Is there a good and safe product to use on nails to color them? Gel? Acrilic bath? Regular nail polish? And how do I make it last?
Hi Anna,l’m Anna too, from Australia 👋🏼 thanks so much for all this helpful info.l have really damaged my nails by filing off a hard gel-painful lesson learnt! I really liked how strong and protected the hard gels made my nails feel but l really think l’ll be staying away until there’s some kind of new easier removal method because l just don’t have the patience for the soaking off. Back to ordinary polish for me l think, after these poor stubs grow out the damage.
My nails have always peeled after using gel polish. I was so tempted to have my nails done again with gel before going on vacation...after watching this video I'm staying with natural nails. Thank you!
Thank you for the great video and advice! I had issues with Dazzle Dry base coat causing nail peeling, likely from the bond between the base coat and nail being stronger than the bond between the nail layers, just as you described. It seems to be a somewhat common problem based on the many many discussions of peeling nails in the Dazzle Dry fan group, though I don’t have the statistical data on that (and people tend to speak up more when they have issues with a product than when it’s working as expected, of course) But I would still be hesitant to use it as the “layer of clear base coat over thin nail plates when the nail bed is sensitive” for this reason.
Hi Marina! Have you seen my video Pros & Cons of Dazzle Dry Nail Polish | Watch Before You Buy❗️ ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EYOnyWd9Qv4.html I base my opinions on my salon work and nails is all I do. (I’m not being defensive here, just sharing info) Thousands of manicures and pedicures. So I see patterns. Although I do see some surface damage from DD too is way less common than a damage from regular polish. Majority of people have great improvement compare to regular polish and no or very little damage that can be mitigated with warm oil soaks and taking a day break from polish. Yes. Groups like the FB group you mentioned can distort the reality a bit. The majority of people who are happy with the product don’t write their experience. I mean it’s important feedback and worth paying attention to but it’s important to look at it from a perspective. Another thing I noticed is that usually the clear coat, so a thin coat of polish is usually less damaging. I have no idea why! Maybe it’s thinner and more flexible comparing to a thick coat? Also what helps are the breaks and warm oil soaks. Also the benefit of this clear coat (literally less pain from overfiled nails) and the risk of tiny bit of surface damage from the actual DD polish) makes it worth the risk in my opinion. Otherwise people sometimes tend to break and are tempted put the gel back on.
So glad I googled 'how to fix soft nails after gel' and clicked your video! My nails were amazing, long, healthy so I thought why not get a gel to help protect them...... ugh..... lesson learned, the hard way. I am going to be binge watching your channel now so I can better educate myself on what to do to keep my nails looking sublime. Thank you!
I stumbled onto your channel this morning and there’s always questions no matter how long you’ve done nails and I’ve been doing nails for about 40 years and I found your video. Very helpful. Great info 👍
Searching for solution and came across your page a few days ago. I’ve been wearing gel manicures for years and I decided to start going them myself last month. I did two sets and the gel was peeling. When I finally took the gel off I realized that my nails were sensitive to water temperatures and even touch. They were also super thin and fragile. I’ve been getting them done for so long I never gave it a lot of attention. 😢
I had some gel nail varnish put on in for a few months after I was told it would help my nails grow and be healthier but in fact since the gel has been removed they have never been worse. They are thin, brittle, split and one nail was filed down so much by the nail technician that it started to bleed and was tender for a week. Never again. I am having to keep them ultra short while I try and get some strength back to my nails. I wish I never had them done in the first place. 😢
Hi! I am new. I happened across your channel. I have dry, peeling nails and I am over 50. I do have damage after recent gel nails. I don't usually wear gel. I continue to learn a lot from your channel. Thank you!😊
❤Thank you for this!!❤ Atl USA here 🇺🇸 I’ve been doing my own nails for a year and recently found I have extensive damage. I’ve learned so much from this video thank you!
Thank you very much for this profound and detailed explanation! And also thank you for respecting the viewer's time and not including too much "water" in this info-packed video. This confirmed what I have intuitively figured out and reassured me that I am doing everything right. I did learn lots of new things here as well, especially the brand names.
Hi! Greetings from Poland :) I just wanted to say that I'm very grateful to you for making the video, as right now, I have a very damaged nail of which one part is more thin than tissue paper and on top of that it's peeling. Now I feel more encouraged to wait and be patient as my nails grow out
👋 tuning in from California! Your knowledge and educational videos have been a life savor for me! You taught me how to wrap my edges, that Essie gel couture is not a real gel, that there is risk for allergies with real gels ( I am happy with my 20 bottles of Essie couture and wont be doing gels) and so much more that would make this comment very long, thank you so much for your dedication for our well-being! I love you channel and have been binging all your videos!
This video is just so informative and helpful. Thankyou for sharing your personal beliefs in addition to your knowledge. I recently have damage to nails that have probably been there for many years. My thumb nail is very ugly and is separating from the nail bed. Shoul I do the oil soaks and how can I protect it from more damage. It's, of course, on my dominate hand and is constantly in water. Thankyou for any help you are able to offer.
Hello there! Please check out the video where I talk about nail plate separation from nail bed: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N94uoUU73bw.html
What a lot of effort has been made to make this video, thanks so much Anna. Speaking personally my nails have been damaged by impatience. Impatient removal of gell polish & not allowing enough time for the acetone 'do it's job'. Gell off now, gentile manicures & warm oil nail soaks have been amazing.
Thank you so much. What you say has been really helpful to me in understanding why, when I "take such care if my nails," they are so damaged. Wonderful advice
I enjoyed this video. It cleared up some things for me. I always suspected that nail hardener seemed to make my nail harder, and brittle, so I no longer use them. Also, my nails are recovering from acrylic applications, but fortunately the damage is minimal because I only had them done twice. Now, I only like a basic manicure and pedicure. Looking forward to more informative videos 👍
Thank you so very much! I worked on this video for days. Seriously. I’m so glad it shows. I’m learning to present the info clearly without talking in circles and going on rants lol. Lots of preparation went into this video :)
thank you very much for the very clear and above all honest explanation. I had a nasty reaction after removing Biab. The nails are brittle and even loosened in some places. I even had pain in my fingertips for 3 weeks. I take your helpful advice to heart. Greetings Ans Vermeulen
👋Hello from the UK, I found your channel quite a few months ago and recently my nails are not looking great, so I am now watching many more of your videos as they are so helpful
Thanks so much for the advice you gave and the education on nail care and products should and shouldn’t use. My nails are so horrible. They are splitting on the sides and down the middle. I have cut them off, and I have been using this nail repair stuff. I am going to try the oil soak and see how that does. I will never go back to the nail salons again. I just want them healthy. I stopped going for several months now. I am praying they start to look better soon. Again, thank you.
I'm new here from Philadelphia. Getting ready to have my gel and gel polish removed. I have already purchased jojoba oil, blue cross and a glass cuticle pusher. Hope im ready! Love your channel. 🤗
Hello! Great video. I’m new to this channel. I have long, natural nails and have been doing my own manicures at home (lacquer, gel, dip). What really surprised me was your advice about nail hardeners. Thank you for the information. I clicked in this video because of some mild damage from extended gel polish wear and the difficulty in removing. Your video is very informative. ✌🏼💕🇨🇦
Thank you!!!!!!! This was so informative!!!! I’ve ruined my nails over filing and I had no idea!!!! I just kept buying new products I thought were stronger and hold better!! Then I thought maybe I was allergic to gel but it didn’t bother my toes so that didn’t make sense. When you said over doing them and constantly filing them, not soaking product all the time way off and filing instead, I was like ah-ha! That’s me! So now I have to deal with ugly nails for a while but I have to let them grow out!! Thank you!!!!!
I have really slowed down my removal process and follow your method. It’s much better. I still have some damage from over filing by a salon six months ago.
Thank you!! Have been doing dip for a few months now & decided to stop. My nails are damaged & I've been using olive oil on them...will now switch to warm soaks. I have a wedding coming up but will use a formaldehyde free polish & then back to my soaks!
Polishes don't contain formaldehyde actually, hardeners sometimes do contain formalin, which hardens the nails. Please see more info here: bit.ly/2Ob3kuY So you can use polish, just don't use hardeners Jojoba is better than olive oil for nails :)
Hi, I am so grateful I found your video my nails need desperate help from wearing acrylic nails which I find my own nails are thin and have ripped on certain nails I don’t know what to do but I do know stay away from acrylic nails
I've found this very informative I've had Acrylic done on my nails regretting it now the reason I had Acrylic done was because I was going out special occasion and my nails were awful I have ridges they flake and split I will try the oil method to see if strengthens my nails id give anything for nice long nails really enjoyed watching thank you x
thank you so much! You made me feel so much better about my extremely brittle nails. I was thinking about putting dip powder over them, and now I’m definitely not going to put anything on them. I will just have to be patient.😊👍🏽
Hi! I’m following you from Spain, Europe. After years of gel manicure my nails look really bad, they are dry and thin. I will follow your advices and see if I can rescue them. Thanks for your work: it’s amazing!
Great videos, I have definitely had nail damage due to allergic reactions to gel, acrylic product's and recently regular nail polish. I have left my nails bare for just over a year and have noticed the white milkly part of my nail is visible around my cuticle area the rest of the nail is redish pink like the images you have shown in this video. My milky area does not seem to be fully coming back. I am a pro nail tech so have knowledge of the products I use. There is not much information on how to recover from damaged nails due to the product.
Thank you very much! Extremely informative! I have been taking care of my own nails since COVID & even though this was years ago, I am taking baby steps getting there. I find your content extremely helpful. 2 Thumbs up! Happy Holidays!
I'd love to see a video where you explain (maybe with different client hand pictures to compare) how to know if you have a warm or more cool toned skin color. Which skin tone suits which color etc. For example when I buy certain nail polishes online that I like, they end up not looking good on me.
Hi Patricia! Ufff, a great idea but filming such nuances in colors is difficult. Especially reds. In real life they might look different and on camera they all look the same. Maybe if we had a professional camera for filming these videos. Hopefully in time. We are filming with iPhone :)
Greetings from Germany Just recover from press ons😂with gel glue.... You have just saved me from using a hardener.....❤ Nails could be better 🙈 I will follow your advices 😊
You have so much knowledge.. thank you for sharing it all with us. ❤ I am amazed by how much there is to know. Especially the explanation about strong bonded gel potentially pulling off layers of the nail, really opened my eyes. I'm gonna be extra careful now instead of less careful.. having a strong product on the nail really gives a false sense of protection.
Thanks so much! Great informative video. I have the damaged nails you describe by aggressive removal and wasn't sure what to do about it. I'd been rubbing oil into them (castor and coconut) and cut them right down and will add the warm oil treatments too....once I google what that involves.
Thank you so much for this information, I have learned so much about nail care. I'm in my 50s an my were always healthy then I made the mistake of having ploygel applied to my nails as an overlay . Wrong decision. My nails are very damaged 💔 😢.
thank you so much for making this video! will be applying normal nailpolish to strenthen my natural nails for a few months 😅Was debating another acrylic set but naaah, I'll give them a break 😅
I am watching you from Sweden.😊 Thanks for the super educational video! I have learned so much as someone who doesn't know much about these things. Looking forward to more content!
Hello from Canada! Finally a video that tells the reality….and then some tips while you are waiting for the nails to grow back. I love the look of artificial nails…but not sure I can ever go back to them now.
Your explanation of how the nail grows actually made it make sense to me! Thank you for this video and the warm oil soak video! (And your channel in general 👏👏👏!)
I am following you now from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and I clicked on the translation option into Arabic in order to understand your speech.. I have broken horizontal lines in my toenails and I want to learn how to take care of them.
