One of the all-time favorite songs from my high school days. Outstanding production. The mixture of the horns, the sax, and the guitars is just incredible! And then add in the great vocal harmonization by the band members!! I can listen to this song over and over again and not tire of it. (Shivers)
The first time I heard this group was with the song, 'Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again'. I don't think I had ever heard this earlier song until I heard it on Gary Owens' Sound Track of The Sixties. It immediately became my favourite.
The last verse, where you hear two parts of the song playing at the same time, is done using a short counter melody. This counter melody is introduced just before the verse (3:28) played on a muted guitar, while the horns play the original melody. When the singing diverges, this new counter melody is brought forward (it sounds like talking, but he is actually singing) and it feels much more personal, as if a narrator steps into a story in the middle. This is one of my favorite songs - I never tire of it.
Hello, daX: I was just listening to an online radio station and on came a song that, IMO, is as good as this one by The Fortunes. It is my favourite by them; Walkin' in the Rain by Jay & The American Type Dudes. I would love to see your reaction to that one.
