Great analogy with shoes or clothes... This really nails it in many ways when considering a shaft... You want something that feels right... Sometimes what it says on the label just really isn't right for you, other times you can get away with it and it really comes down to a smaller margin of comfort and feel... But ideally you try a few and find exactly what works best for you in terms of comfort feel and function 👌

The problem is most golf stores even some of the big ones dont carry different shafts the only carry the different flex stock shafts and its a gamble upgrading a shaft that you never hit.

It’s important to get fit for a shaft as well as a head ,but it’s important to set the launch monitor correctly too ,you can’t carry the ball 300 plus yards with a 110 mph swing and 162 ball speed ,that’s more like a 270/275 carry with roll out to somewhere around 300 yards .

@wessims3412
@wessims3412 29 дней назад
The carry distance is important, however, there is only about 3 yards distance difference overall in the shafts in reality because you hit your next shot from where the ball finishes, not from where it carries to. Nobody picks up their golf ball and takes it back to where it landed to hit it, you hit it from where it finishes. so with those numbers, there’s really only about 3 yards difference between the shafts, but I do agree it is important to have the correct shaft and there is drastic differences in the performance and the feel with many other shafts more dramatically
@joewalker6931
@joewalker6931 29 дней назад
So why not two shafts. One that would yield more potential for carry for wet conditions (higher launcher shaft) and one that has more potential for roll out during harder conditions lower launching shafts). Just a thought I maybe way off. Haha.
@TheflyingkiwiRC
@TheflyingkiwiRC 29 дней назад
I agree. Over all the numbers were close and under normal outdoor conditions how you're swinging on the day is going to matter more than the difference in these shafts. Even the spin rates were close.

Thanks Matt. Disappointed you haven't really gone into the Kick Point on the shafts. this can play a massive part in the makeup and if often missed. as an example I prefer the kick toward the handle. I use a Ping g30 SF Tec in stiff but to be honest I've not even checked the sped of the shaft, but most recently I've managed several 300+ driver shots using Wilson Duo balls. There's defo more to the shafts for sure.

This is all well and good, but most club golfers have neither the time, the money, nor the opportunity, to delve into the options and get the 'perfect shaft'. You would have to find an outlet that would offer the time, have all different options, and then have the money to buy the one they recommend. It simply isn't going to happen. It has become ridiculous and would astonish the likes of Tom Morris. In his day a shaft was a shaft was a shaft! It's only become 'a thing' since the advent of carbon fibre and is, for the majority, undoubtedly mainly advertising hype. Furthermore, shouldn't the onus be on the manufacturers to match the shaft to the declared specification? You can't call them all the same and then for them all to be different. In much the same way as the example of shoes: a size 9 should be a size 9. To discover they vary means the manufacturers are getting it wrong, no more, no less. Finally, 309.5 yards of carry? Yeah, right. This oft-repeated nonsense from these launch monitors needs to stop. Unless, of course, you're claiming to be matching the world's very top tour professionals in your driver performance...

I use an Ai Smoke TD 9° set to standard with weights in standard setting. I have an AV white 65 gram stiff shaft in it and I swing at 112-115 on the course. I use it for straight balls and fades. I also have a TSR3 9° all set to standard with an AV black 1k 65 gram stiff for when I want to work a little bit of a draw. I wasn’t fitted for either driver. I did research on the shafts and I know what profile I want and the feel I want. X flex feels like total crap for me on a lot of shafts. However, the shafts I use feel stiffer than friends of mine that use Graphite Design Tour AD X stiff shafts. They try to hit my drivers and immediately notice they feel stiffer. I’ve tried premium shafts, but none of them made an improvement over my stock shaft options.

sold my "old" ping g430 MAX .. fitter i had when i bhought it wanted me to go for a alta cb 55 S if i remember correct. worked first year, next year i could not control my driver at all ( slice )there for i did not use driver at all.. ( first year of golf vs 2th year ) now as i finish up on the second year of golf i tried the new Titliest GT line up on a fitting event. and i told him fit me with any shaft no matter the cost. to really try to see what it could do for me.. got fitted into a GT3 with a ventus blue 7S shaft. and oh boy was it a difference.. 230 meters total with ping, 260 meters total ( with good strikes and straight ) it just feels so much easier to swing the club, the shaft feels lighter to me.. but its heavier which is pretty wierd. if you already don't mind paying for a brand new club. then really look into shafts as well.

I’m a huge data nerd, but I’ll be the first one to say that for the most part it’s gotten out of control for amateur golfers. A 2% difference isn’t worth the time or money for the average golfer. Spend the money to go and PLAY more golf. Get a few lessons. That will have a much bigger impact on your score than incremental equipment changes that only really matter if you’re seeking the top 1% of performance increases and have the consistent swing to back it up.

@@blue24563 Thats a bad take imo.. Yes, some minor differences can be adjusted to. A very well reasoned presentation. It’s over optimistic to assume that average amateurs will be able to test multiple shafts and the more specialist items could put cost up prohibitively. As an example my shaft is Kai li 60s and I like it. Fell and numbers are good for my speed. I tried a friend’s driver with a TX 60 tensei orange 1k and it felt and performed superbly with fantastic dispersion. I would argue that a fitter would never suggest that shaft for me so I may miss out. That shaft would cost £300 and in afraid I wouldn’t be ordering one purely because of cost
