I like the comparison videos they did with the cams but all the other infomercials like this are terrible.

The amp has to be flash to work properly. The flash "programs" the amp to function according to the setup. If the amp is set up to run 4 speakers (stage 1) it runs full eq to each speaker. If it is flashed as stage 2 the amp is set up to split all the power to just 2 speakers and the internal crossover runs mid and low frequencies to the woofers and high frequency to the separate tweeters

Put mine in on a sunday. Had it flashed on monday. Rode it all day tuesday. Pulled it out wednesday Had it flashed back to stock stage 1 Thursday

Jim, I don't know what the dealer charges, but I did this myself in an afternoon. You have to remove the gas tank (for power wiring) windshield, the outer fairing (one screw inside the speaker grill on each side and then remove the headlight assembly. If you can handle yourself in the garage with some basic tools you can do this install. You will need to take your bike to the dealer to have the radio flashed so the amp works properly. If I remember correctly they caution you from using the radio before you have that done. Also, if you have a powered antenna in the fairing it uses the same port so pay attention to the instructions where it tells you that you will need a y-adapter! I think it was like $10 at the dealer and the part number is in the instructions. Oh, and the amp isn't bad, but you will likely blow the speakers at some point down the road. I had my bass turned down and mine lasted about a year and a half. I'm in the process of replacing them now but I'm going aftermarket this time around. If I were starting some scratch I would just to totally aftermarket and I may do that eventually. The infinity kappa speakers I'm installing now are just a stop-gap measure while I do some more research. They came recommended by a local stereo shop as they are 2-ohm speakers. I figured they were worth the $100 for now. Good luck!

speakers can be blown on this setup just like any other setup out there.. if you play it loud as it can go with the settings all the way up or its just a bad speaker things happen.. its not just boom audio equals blown speaker..

TylerFJ24 I completely disagree with you there! This system was designed by Harley to all work together properly... the speakers should be sized properly to handle the output of the amp and the maximum volume set by Harley on the head unit. If this system was designed and configured properly it should be able to run at maximum volume for the life of the product.

The settings were set by the dealer , I left them alone.bass a little over half,mids half or less , treble 3/4.....less than two weeks BLOWN!!!!

@@jam471975 no stereo plays clean at "full volume".. any stereo is going to distort after 75%. More volume equals increased distortion. Cranking the bass up means increased distortio. Distortion kills speakers..you will blow a speaker much easier with distortion than you ever will with too much power.

Danny Ion...No, there are no pre-amp outputs, it’s all designed to have to go to Harley to upgrade/change anything, I wasn’t happy with my Stage 2, one of the speakers blew and to replace it, Harley wanted more for 1 crappy 5x7, than I paid for 4 Polk audio speakers and a 400watt kenwood amp, but to get those to work with the factory Head unit you have to either have it flashed and use line levelers, or replace the head unit....so I replaced the head unit and will enjoy my aftermarket system free from Harley’s proprietary restrictions!

You can't hear it going 75-80 down the highway. The system is under powered and poorly designed. Don't be fooled into purchasing based on what you hear at the dealerships display - that doesn't translate when you're on the road.

Jim Beam JVale speaks the truth, I love my SGS, but once one of the speakers blew, I found replacing one crappy Harley speaker was not cost effective so I am replacing EVERYTHING! In the middle of the build now, can’t wait to hear the end result, Sony XAV-AX5000 Head unit, Kenwood 400watt amp 2 Polk audio 6.5 speakers up front and 2 Polk audio 5x7s in the bags, and I can reconfigure however I want without Harley dipping into my wallet!

George Moses I have a 2019 road glide special with the new stereo. What’s weird is my previous bike, 2013 ultra, and the one before that ,2008 street glide, had a better sound to the stereo. I thought maybe it was just the fairing as the speakers sit different on the road glide. Sounds great parked but going down the road even at 35mph, I can’t hear it unless the volume is all the way up. My fear is blowing the speakers at full volume as there is no headroom in the stock head unit and it’s causing distortion. Not really sure what testing Harley did for this stereo. Most likely in a lab and not real world conditions.
