I was a chronic overwiper and caused all kinds of problems for myself. Switching to a bidet has solved all of them, every #2 is satisfying and there is no "brown crayon" effect. Toilet paper alone will one day be considered barbaric and inefficient.

@ampthemilk seratonin regulates your intestines and its also important for regulating anxiety. People with OCD have lower levels of seratonin which usually will also then cause intestinal issues. That’s what my doctor told me anyways

Its always pathological - be it the interaction between metabolism and diet, psychological issues, lifestyle habits, environmental factors or a combination, you can absolutely fix it. I no longer have ocd, and do not take meds or drugs. You can leave it behind. I think the misunderstanding that many physicians, clinicians, psychiatrists etc have about neurotransmitters is a chicken-egg problem/misattribution fallacy: they see low serotonin and blame conditions on it, when in reality, its a byproduct of those conditions and their underlying causes. This is supported by the latest research in cognitive science.

I bought a cheap bidet for my apartment bathroom. (Under $30?) Blast out your bottom side, then all you need TP for is a little drying. I know microscopic things are there but it's amazing how different and clean you feel. You just feel like you've stepped out of a shower.

As a fellow colorectal surgeon, I must respectfully disagree that it’s okay to have poop around the anus. Stool is an irritant to anal skin. That was shown in a study from the last century. I’m not saying to use harsh chemicals or abrasive products, but it’s important to get rid of stool residue after bowel movements.

Also bear in mind that although avoiding poop in your vagina is good received wisdom, it's not like one speck and you'll get an infection. Vaginal discharge is not pH neutral, it's designed to kill stuff off, otherwise you'd have constant infections after sex or masturbation. This isn't something you need to worry about too much.

We really should have bidets in this country. Would be a much better way to deal with the issue. Also, I've been on a very consistent high protein diet for years because of my workout regimen and have found the consistency to be much more "packetized" if you will. There's no "pinching off" per se -- it's a natural break and it usually results in total white paper champagne clean. It only gets messed up if I wander off this diet. I never used to be this way but this diet has made things very regular and easy peasey. Side benefit to being fit.

Like the metric system, the entire rest of global humanity seems to have found a better way of doing something than the US. Every other country I've been to at least had some type of water system to wash your backside. Either a fixed nozzle from the toilet or a bidet. You can buy a bidet in the USA but be warned - you will lose friends. They will accuse you of being a communist or "European."

The only goal is not having shit stained underwear. The solution is water soaked paper and getting it a bit inside there. Not putting your finger in, just cleaning it a few millimeters in so there isn't poop left. Also, take magnesium. It will make your poop watery and easier to pass, which is what you want. No more pushing hard to empty your bowels and 20 minute 9GAG scrolling sessions. You will be done in 2-5 minutes. Good luck.

As a female I have a mild rectocele which is a weakening of the muscle separating the rectum and the vagina, and so it's like a pocket in the rectum where poop gets stuck, and what I have to do is actually press on the vaginal wall for complete elimination. I actually bought an enema because I was soo sick of it, and it's amazing how much is left up there. Would love if you could talk about this issue.

i had one of those for 3 months and it was such severe agony, I lost 100lb almost instantly cuz i was so scared of food. i developed a pretty nasty crack addiction just getting though all that pain. thankfully i was able to get rid of that addiction a year after the pain stopped. lol of course I had to pick up a heroin addiction a year or so later thanks to some of the most traumatic malpractice one could ever experience. i hate doctors so much and now i'm supposed to get their help for severe arthritis in the neck impinging on nerves making my wrists and hips throb at all times. but it's not nearly as intense as that anal tear was. my goodness that severe uncontrolled pain was so horrid, i'd wish it on my worst enemy for sure.

i never realized that there are so many people who go to these lengths. unless i have the runs, I've always just done the inital wipe, and then a second quick pass, and the third is usually overkill because the paper is still clean after. I'm in Canada and i agree with the people who commented there should be more bidets here. my heart goes out to those of you who struggle with these intense routines.

I actually have been diagnosed with OCD and one of the most frustrating daily activities is obsessively trying to get clean. I usually bathe afterwards. For me it's based more on the discomfort of not being clean and getting rid of that sticky feeling.

i guess you're right, loads of people have mental illness. I've never noticed any sticky feeling, unless they're using a bad soap which can have that feeling and once dried off definitely no sticky feeling. @@lacedchemist1295

I'm same way. Got a toilet that squirts water up your ass and I love it! You just adjust it once and you can squirt it straight up your hole. No more "showerbombs" as I used to call them where I'd aggressively clean myself.

Its totally normal to bathe after or use shower or water somehow. I take a 2 minute shower down below after every poop. Everybody should. Or get a bidet or something.

I installed a bidet. Cold water, no electrical hookup needed. I have Crohns, it really helps. Being clean is an ongoing, everyday thing. Its not difficult..managed for 60 years without ever being obsessed by it.

I understand what you are saying, but people must make the effort to clean it. The smell is horrible if they don't and I can't be next to someone who smells like that. I clean in the shower every.morning with a washcloth and you have to clean the area right above where your butt starts, it's an indentatation. I use soap and water a lot instead of toilet paper throughout the day. You must try to keep it clean at least once a day or that bacteria itches. My hygiene routine makes me confident I don't smell.

This IS basically showering everyday, just for your butthole. lol Since we got ours two years ago, my ass feels like it’s on vacation 😂

The problem with social media is. If you tell people as something as simple as "You don't have to wipe your bottom as in depth as you think you need to." there will be people who will clutch their pearls and look at you going like "W-what's wrong with wiping my bottom? What is wrong with this world where I have people telling me to stop wiping my bottom!?" and not even watch the rest of the video or you'll get someone who feels vindicated in a way that's really weird like: "YES! Finally! Bring on the age of never wiping ever now! Let he funk of my crusty bum be known to all! I'm glad I watched the whole thing, I've had the exact same problem where I thought it was hemorrhoids and I needed to clean more aggressively. I probably could have had the pain go away much faster if I just accepted the part of your body constantly exposed to poo is going to be okay being exposed to poo.

I dont think social stigma or peer pressure is the cause of excessive wiping. I dont discuss that with friends and they will never know my anus. I think excessive wiping stems purely from the need to feel clean. Its a personal thing, not related to others, except maybe your wife or husband i suppose. Even if i were thr last man on earth id still wipe the same as i do now
