You will not find this set in any book. 

Great dancers! I knew Christy and Jimmy and their friends very well when they were dancing competition around 1990 as the Kells Set. They won multiple All Irelands and were unbeatable for some years in Competition. The set in Toss the Feathers is the version they danced for competition then. This dance here is beautiful - it has elements of the Morris Reel and 16 Hand Reel as well as the Cavan Reel Set and it is danced to the Cavan step. All of the Cavan / Kells Dancers were great Céilí dancers also and their step is like the Roscommon step with an extra batter or shuffle. Lovely to see this. Thanks for uploading.

I had the privilege of watching and dancing in sets with Willie Keane.He was a special Dancer and a lovely man.

I remember from the late 70's til the mid 80's Tommy King & a group of dancers from around Oldcastle doing an 8-hand reel. Mighty dancers all including Christy Kelly & Jimmy Halpin. Tommy King's wife was also in the set. I was playing with The Bridge Ceili Band at the time & The Oldcastle set (as we called them) followed us everywhere we played. Distance was no drawback to these fabulous dancers & characters. Brilliant memories of a very happy bygone age.

It seems to have elements of Ceili & Stepdancing (the toes, shuffles,(?)). We were taught to keep contact with the floor, but this group (and its speed) is amazing!!

Mighty fine dancing here---enlightening to see all the POSITIVE comments regarding the possible origins of the movements and footwork, reflects the keen interest we all share in regards to the dancing.

Reminds me of the Morris Reel - It's missing the return chain and back to back though. The figure reminds me of the ladies chain, except obviously it's men doing it. Fun to watch :)

hi jedwentz, the step is actually that of the cavan reel set. One of the women dancing in this set was my dance teacher and we went on to win some all irelands with the cavan reel.the step is treble back two three,the back is almost a jump down. Both men and ladies start on the right foot

Tom King!!! Mo Dhia! My favourite rabbit 🐰 dancer in the world. Heard he sadly passed away. Was it a few years ago? Used to do set dancing at the Club Éireannach na Beilge is Brussels. It was fun. But don’t recall that awesome set. Must be as tough as the BalliBhúirne set Also seen a girl doing sean-nós with King as surename. Could she be a granddaughter of Tom King?

Viscusalbum is about right - it does look like the Morris Reel in the chorus part. The figures are varied, the last one reminds me of the last fiure of the sixteen hand reel with the bridges.

Morris Reel !! starts off normally ladies right hand cartwheel not gents confusing after that Cavan Reel step some of the dancer are cavan I think ? !! Well Done Its lovly danced !! Did Pat see it if he doesnt know WELL??

I would suggest you read Ar Rinncide Foirne the Commisún book. this may improve your knowledge of those dances

Well you haven't danced it in a long time!Only half of double quater chain of High caul cap is used.(the side step does not square all the way around but goes left and right as in Morris real)

in the beginning this looks almost like a version of the Morris reel. But its not.

Yez are all wrong. It's a version of the High Caul Cap done to the Cavan Reel step with the Roscommon Set stuck in the middle to confuse ye all. Or something like that. And Pat says no way!

Wow, people who said this was HCC either found some great alcohol or are trolling. This isn't remotely similar Great dance though and fun to do. Just wish I had the footwork down.
