I often thought back in the Victorian period if the youngster's carved out Tombstones aswell ? They were certainly very young working in the mines and the mills.
I so enjoyed seeing the artistic carvings on the stones....especially the faces...such detail on many of them. Thanks Dan. I hope you had a good day. 🌹
Edinburgh is a beautiful place. I haven been there and also in the rest of Scotland a beautiful country. It is inconceivable that people relieve themselves on a grave. Not respectful. A beautiful cemetery, a pity that the stones are so black. Thank you for the tour Martha
At 1:54, the spirit said "I would have threw that in his face". The guy who did it was lucky that a spirit with an ability to move objects was not there.
Sorry about the Poo smell! You got through the rest of this beautiful cemetery though. Seemed quite peaceful during the day. Thanks for making me laugh Dan!
I was in Edinburgh in November 2022 and was staying in a hotel on Queensferry Road, just a few yards away from St Cuthbert's, and visited St John's Scottish Episcopal Church which is next door to St Cuthbert's and walked around both graveyards - very interesting. I also went into St John's and wow, what an interior, and also the memorials / tablets on the walls to parishioners who had died - mostly military men from the 1800's and from some famous battles and landmarks, like Sevastopol. Also some famous names like Sir John Robison. There is also a tablet to Captain William Bunter who "died instantaneously within this house of God" in 1841 - cardiac arrest maybe?
Loads of skulls in this graveyard!, must have been a trend of the time there. But you don’t see many 1600 graves, I wonder why. Who needs meditation when you can walk with you around these wonderful graveyards. So relaxing. Love your videos👍
It’s deffo a case of being worried of the living when visiting this churchyard, such a pity how they get away with being so disrespectful . An enjoyable visit apart from nearly stepping in it..
Beautiful resting place, I can’t believe people ( if we are allowed to call them that ) could vandalise and disrespect such a space. I’m sure the devil himself couldn’t do it. Thank you, Steve from 🇦🇺🤝.
The 'homeless themselves are not the problem; it is HOMELESSNESS that is the problem. Anyone who has ever struggled to find enough money to obtain shelter--and the compassionate--will understand the difference.
not uncommon to see in some churchyards to have the grave size on the stone, also you see stones along paths referring to the position of the burial plot "buried 28feet north east of this monument"
I love Agatha Christie. 😻& robins! 🥰 The skulls were cool, one had moss in the eye socket. ☠ If you pour water over the faded script on the stones, it should make the letters clearer to see.
A Fewer/Fewar is apparently the tenant of a Feu, a 'perpetual' property and/or land granted to the tenant (vassal) by a (feudal) superior (Laird? Abbot?) on condition of an annual payment. This is somewhat different to a simple tenant presumably in that as long as the payments are kept up, the property is effectively theirs. 'Baillie' = Bailliff/Magistrate
Baillies are civic officials in some towns and cities of Scotland. Fewer may be related to one who holds land on payment of a feu (think 'feudal') or may be a variant spelling based on old French (Le)Fevre - a smith, although combined brewer/blacksmith is probably more likely to be found out in the country rather than in a great city.
I wonder what it’s like to live in a skyscraper apartment as shown here (maybe they’re office buildings) with an overhead view of the hundreds of graves. I think it would be neat.
The disrespectful behavior permitted there is unbelievable. That’s also why I don’t believe in ghosts. No self-respecting ghost would allow these people to ruin their mausoleums.
They could stop the damage by making sure the walls and gates work and buying a big security dog to just turn loose in the night hours. Be easier cleaning up after that than the junkies.
Scotland is on my bucket list of places to visit…. I have distant relatives from there. My paternal grandmother’s maiden name was Bacon. Researched it all the way back to some royalty in the UK and Scotland. Sir Walter “Butts” Bacon and others….
Interesting that you make so many videos in Scotland, when you have so little positive to say about it? Perhaps best left to others to appreciate the graveyards 🥰
How disrespectful that a (person)? or someone would let their 🐕 poo in/on a gravesite! At timestamp 2:15, or 2:16, theres a VERY eerie sounding Woman's voice saying something ( cant make out whar she said), but it was definitely not background voices!👻
I guess we can assume it's connected with brewing, whatever it was we can also assume it was extremely profitable, the people in this graveyard weren't short of a bob or two.
Ive just noticed Dan RU-vid took me off 'all' subscribed videos ! I wondered why i hadn't saw any videos ! I thought you might be having a break or packing it in. Bloody RU-vid 🤬 catching up on all your dead good walks 😊
