@@dustind.5246 Well, it's always nice to see the coin cleaned up right after the find. But I'm sure that takes a lot of editing. So if your just starting out, you can always show the cleaned coins at the end of the video. Of course if you have the talent, then show the cleaned coin right away. Of all the videos I've watched, this was the best format I've seen.

I was thinking the same thing! I would love to see this. If you placed a flag, like the ones surveyors use, in each place you find a relic, record the location with your drone, I'd bet you could put together a recreation using the computer.

@Chris Collins If the cartridge was cracked and the powder was no longer contained then the whole thing was discarded. US Army troops generally did not have a powder flask on their person as they were issued complete cartridges so discarding the broken ones was not an issued. I have found such piles of Minies, Sharps, and pistol bullets out west also.

This all changed in 1866 with the production of the 50-70 cartridge that had a brass case. More expensive to produce and the loss rate due to damage was minimal or even null.

@@GreatOutdoorsDetecting No lol that is really cool. My Grammar was a one room school teacher in Henderson back in the 20s-30s until she married my Grandpa who was 15yrs her junior. He was working with the CCC. His mother "enslaved" her 3 sons who were 14, 15 and 13 by signing that they were old enough to work in the CCC.... another long story... hahaha. But my family was between York and Henderson. As a child Grammar would take me with her to the Seward museum trying to get it started. I think it was a large room to see and another room with storage, that was 50 years ago lol. I know there were many boxes of things we took. I don't think any of the other grandkids were shown the attic like I was. Grammar has boxes all kept with the year on them. I remember her showing me an elaborate gold 20s flapper dress and ALL of the movie playbills from the first movies shown in Nebraska. I remember all of the heirloom hair pictures, all of the aerial pictures of all the farms in York county, maps of the original plots given out for farms homesteads. I was the weird child that loved all that stuff. I would sit on the stairs and read all of the old movie magazines the stacks went from base of riser to the ceiling. Guess being out in the middle of no one on a farm you savored the glamour. I don't remember what they call them but she had 10+ boxes of those pictures you looked thru with a viewer that 3-D'd the pictures. I thought she had taken over some of the boxes to the museum. I remember only one specific to the area and it was a large church that had caught fire. We lived in many states and only went out to Grammar and Grandpa's once a year every year. We always stayed a week. Grandpa actually found my iron bed out on the trail while plowing with me on his lap. We only found the headboard and footboard and I had to get other railings but his out buildings had tons of things in it he had come across. Sorry I got to babbling going down memory lane lol. Most people look at NE and just see cornfields, not me! I remember the crop rotations (used to remember their order lol) I know my cousins lost all of anything small Grammar had in the dresser on the front porch lol it would be fun to go find that stuff but when they sold the farm the moron who bought it burned the house down. I bet he never knew that if he had dismantled it he would have found so much history in that attic. It went back to when the first built the house in the1860s. LOL My worst allergy is Cottonwood hahaha and my Great Great Grandpa had planted tons of Cottonwood's on his homestead because they grew fastest and biggest lol. just some of the stupid things I remember lol. I am so glad to know there are younger ones remembering history. My son was 26 when he passed in a car accident in May. Before he was 10 I know I had drug him thru and to over 200 museums, civil war reenactments and historic places. That book is a great resource I have it as well. I’ve always been confused by the route they took in it though because they seem to cross into Nebraska territory in far eastern Nebraska based on the rivers and creeks they mention and not where the Oregon Trail traditionally crosses into NE. That’s why I’m not sure if I have ever hunted one of their campsites

@@GreatOutdoorsDetecting we've pulled a few 1850's Rifleman buttons from the Overland in Nebraska. One of the earliest ones we've got,although in bad shape was a pewter eagle button (1830's).

Not necessarily Kimberly. In those days soldiers didn't have a change of uniforms if away from their base of opperations like soldiers of today. An army on the move was pretty much using the same clothing as their wagons transported their food and ammunition. Sometimes they carried a bed roll, back pack, waist belts with ammo pouches, canteen, bayonet & scabber, and a heavy musket. Soldiers would often scavenge clothing and equipment from their deceased comrades just to keep going. As clothing in those days were mostly made of wool or cotton, and buttons were sewn with cotton thread. This thread rotted rather quickly and the movements of putting on and off gear would commonly pop buttons. This would be particularly true when hastily preparing for a skirmish. I would have to think that if there had been a body there one would have found numerous other buttons close to the others. I would also think, that unless the ground had been scrapped, a body(s) would have been much deeper.

You have to wonder. No record of what or where, all we can do is speculate.

If you died with it. The body might have been taken not the amo???
