the black floating one is lung.... soto betawi is one of the best soto in Indonesia...... Usually people can choose, either meat only, lungs or both without innards (liver, intesttines, tripe) or mixed all, depends on your preferences. In Jakarta, you can try soto betawi, sop kambing (goat), sop sapi (cow), sop karebosi (from south sulawesi).... all is good with different taste. But you have to search it which the best/fave one.
The chips inside the soto Betawi called Emping, makes from melinjo seed. It's nice when it mix the broth. And yes the sweet soy sauce Will enhance the taste of soto Betawi.

Hi Evan, If you like soto betawi I bet you will like "sop kaki kambing (goat meat) or sop kaki sapi (beef)" , they almost taste the same with soto Betawi, but usually sop kaki kambing use milk instead coconut milk. And sop kaki have pickles, chilli, pepper and onion as condiments, also soy sauce haha!
I'm from Jogja but my favorite is Soto Bandung 😂 I love all Soto in Indonesia actually Soto Surabaya with koyo gurih (savory powder), Soto Sokaraja, Soto Sapi 🐮 Jogja, etc.
Tripe meat is the best in Indonesia. People love it, I love it. Sometimes I order just soto babat(without other kinds of meat or else) You can’t find in other country like in Indonesia. Become more local You can says “bang, satu soto babat yang mantap pake nasi” 😁

Once you get used to it with Indonesian flavor, the moments you go back to US, seems like every meals is tasteless and pale in comparison. And you know you crave a different types of food just like in Indonesia.
Something I don't miss eating street food in Jakarta is the street singer with guitar. Local call them "Pengamen". They are the reason that let down my and a lot of other people to have a peaceful meal in the street and local warung/ rumah makan. Forcing their way harassing people to get some money is a pain. Sometimes they act like a thug. I wonder why the local authority doesn't do anything about it.

Try an unique bargain in Indonesia, when they give the price, like the guy sell the sunglasses.. he said 70 but ypu keep say 50, better leave the place like you are not interested. Usually the seller will call you back agree with your price. If the seller not call you back find other staller, good luck.. if you want to try 😊✌️
