17:37 crew shirt CHICO 2....Bayview YC....2019....1st Overall - Chicago-Mackinac Trophy Div, 1st Place - Section 04....NICE ⛵⛵ The party at the Pink Pony is so much more fun when your crewing on the winner.
Good eye ;-) Kate was a helmswoman and I was the navigator/tactician. Fun race with an excellent team. We will miss them this year. No matter what the outcome of the race, we always try to win the party :-)
@@SailingSweetRuca I just had to check the crew list on Chico 2 to see if you were flying in for the Mac . You have bigger adventures at the moment. The most skilled racer/sailors I competed with honed their skills in Lake Michigan, Lake Huron and Lake Superior. I raced out of RYC (Racine WI) with the big boys i.e. John Stanley etc. Best racers and seamanship skills .⛵⛵
Glad you are seeing the world and not just sailing the world. Growing up in the Middle East in the 50s,60s I too traveled around the world a few times. Hitchhiked all over Europe. I think people who travel outside the U.S. have a much better understanding of the world it’s people and how America is on a whole different level.
Great idea to sew and tape the battens in. Your videography and editing is getting so much better... the mix of natural sound and music. Enjoyed watching Roxy the Dog jumping through the switchgrass. Everything tastes better with a bottle of red! Sweet new electronic$$$ and installation... plus 'Sail Race' was perfect....and a new sail will make such a difference... nice and crunchy. Boom! Living the dream!
Hey Scott, glad you are enjoying the improvement in videography and editing ad well as the sailing upgrades. And Roxy makes all the days better 😊🐾🐶 cheers!
You’ve become my second favorite cruising channel. Fun watching your sailing adventure as you continue to Cape Horn. The rounding will be a lifetime event! Sail on.
Second??? Actually we are flattered, that is really good considering how many sailing channels are out there. We have to know though, who is #1 :-) We can't wait to round with everyone on here, what fun it will be!
Hey you guys, I love your videos and must watch at least seven or eight other channels but what I love most about yours, which is now probably my favorite, is how down to earth you both are. Thanks for sharing!
Hey!!!! We need to have coffee again soon and go for a sail! We haven't forgotten, just been busy making videos and doing boat work :-) Headed your way soon!
As usual I’m a fan of tech-talk with Curtis, even though those things attached to the hull are transducers not transistors 🤪 Another nicely edited video, I know there’s a lot of time required to make it all look so slick!
Love the Jet Ski racing bit! And, happy to see it was actually a fun ski instead of the bloated floating couches that are in style right now. I bet that thing ripped!
Thanks @Toledo Cars. Curtis forgot it had been 20 years since he rode a SuperJet. It was awesome to meet the local champ and a family racing program. Great people!
This was a really excellent electronics upgrade. Could you list the new instruments you now installed on the boat, including the autopilots parts? I'm going back on forth between the usual brands, but what I particularly like is you tell us what was necessary for your boat. I agree with your rationale for your setup. Thanks for sharing. Cheers.
Cheers Sgt. Glad you liked it and to hear you are working on a similar project on your boat. We really went with B&G to get the H5 autopilot. We are also used to the interface from race boats. We think any of the big names are pretty good these days for cruising. Here is a link to our blog for the full list of electronics and more details sweetruca.com/installing-a-bg-h5000-system-in-our-j-boats-j-46/
@@SailingSweetRuca Excellent, the best answer I could have, and the details on your site are fantastic. I'm intrigued about your ambition to do the Cap Horn route - not many YT's are that adventurous. I can't wait until you head south. Cheers.
Glad you enjoy the details. More info on APs to come. The Cape Horn thing is more a calling than a decision. YT was never really planned from the outset (you can tell from our early videos :-) but we've had lots of free time since the pandemic has been putting up road blocks everywhere, so it gives us something to do and make a little grocery money :-) It is helping us to extend our timeline, as we never budgeted to go this long.
The highest we have seen so far is just over 16 knots while surfing downhill. We bet we will top that at some point under perfect conditions ;-) We feel lucky to have her!
Thanks. I am not sure of the Raymarines can do it? The blue was fun, but after lots of sailing and trying different colors we wen't back to the tried and true red at night :-)
Hi Wayne. We carry a decent selection of bits on board, but over time many have broken or dulled. We didn't have the perfect fit, and we thought it was important to have a tight fit on the pin.

We do have a sextant but it has never been out of the box. One day we hope to practice with it, but it falls in the category of the SSB radio, nice to have, but low on the priority list with all the new technology.
Oh man, really? We don't controll that, RU-vid does. That is rediculous. Thanks for letting us know, we will look into at and see if we can adjust some settings.
Just confirmed, YT assigned 7 ads. We get paid pennys on that stuff too. Would rather not annoy you for .3 cents. We can't change it from the mobile app, but next time we log in with the laptop we will adjust these. Obvoiusly none is best, but is there a number that you feel is a good balance as a viewer? Thanks again for letting us know.
Hi Buddy :-) Just having some fun with the thumbnail and title while testing out the algorithm. Results were as expected. Lots of sailing coming up in the next few episodes as we pull out of the harbor for a 1000 mile run south.
Good eye! We agree. It was a ridiculous amount of packaging! Unfortunately there was no option to eat-in at the time. Once we saw the way the food was served it was too late and we did't know enough portugese to change the course. We did recycle it. You would be happy to know that we do what we can to lower our footprint as we also notice the plastic/garbage problem in the Ocean!
We surely would have donated it if there was a pathway to do so. We set it next to the trash can with "gratis" on it, and it was gone a few hours later. We saw it later on the deck of a local boat. So in a way it kind of was, and we can only hope that someone gets a second use of it.
