While you're crazy for coming to Venezuela you got one thing wrong, Venezuelans in general are very friendly despite the huge crisis, one thing that is known about Venezuelans is their very laid-back attitude and how they make jokes amidst a crisis, they take it to the extreme when they should grow a pair and change for the better. But Venezuelans are very very friendly in general. However, if you don't speak the language well, and know the local jargon you will miss out on all of that. Yes, all Venezuelans are sick of the crisis, mad at the government, feel hopeless, yet many are still able to make jokes and laugh, that's who they are.

The thing is you can not compare Venezuela and the US. Venezuela has had this kind of socialism for decades. The democratic party in the US specially Bernie does not want that kind of socialism, he wants the kind that Scandinavia has. I live in Sweden which is a social democratic state and i can say that we are living well, The whole Scandinavia is doing better economically and socially that the rest of Europe and i many areas better than the US. The people who run the dollar system devalued Venezuela's currency by raising the price of import goods purchased in Venezuela's currency as a punishment for nationalizing Venezuelan oil. They did the same thing to Zimbabwe when Zimbabwe kicked foreign agricultural corporations out of their country. If you are going to challenge the supremacy of the dollar you better make sure that your food, water and shelter can be handled locally because your international trade is going to grind to a halt.

I went to Florida and on the way there, a chic from Venezuela sat next to me on the airplane and she told me all about the socialist utopia her country has become. This was during the U.S. presidential campaign. She said she was not yet a citizen and couldnt vote but strongly urged me to vote Trump. She has lost contact with family and friends and has had familiy and friends murdered. Everything she knew and loved growing up has become a distant memory. It was very heartbreaking. She herself has a comfortable life and a good job in Tampa but the sadness in her eyes has never escaped my memory. Dont vote socialists into office here. Once they are in, they never leave.

Disclaimer: I'm not a supporter of Maduro's government. I'm Venezuelan. I live here. And I'm definitely sure that if Bernie Sanders wins, the US cannot get worse than Venezuela. Trust me. Even if it were "socialism", "democratic socialism" "extreme socialism", "radical socialism" or anything like that. We haven't had any real socialism. Chávez was a guy who did some good things with the money that came from oil, especially when it was in its highest price, like building hospitals, homes, schools, giving people food, water, etc. And people loved him! I mean, like half of the country, especially in poor areas. But behind the scenes they were fucking everything up. They destroyed national production by taking a big part of the private sector. They made national producers compete with products imported with money from oil. And the majority didn't care! Because then, people still could eat. After all, this country has been very dependant of oil. Most people are just consumers, and work in commerce and services. We are not prepared to face a catastrophe like this anymore. The PSUV used lots of money to buy stupid things. Chávez's daughter even got to meet Justin Bieber! The government in Venezuela has always been corrupt, but never like this. Now, we ran out of money. The main cause of Venezuela's problems isn't the socialism itself, it is its past during Chavez's leadership. Chavez spent Billions (the entire countries' surplus) on private jets, luxurious cars, and other expensive items, while also spoiling his daughter. Keep in mind that Chavez was a person that wasn't a fan of rich people, the result was a hypocritical man that ruined his own countries' economy by purely focusing on his selfish materialism.

Pure socialism will break down because it does not reward hard work and innovation. Pure capitalism will break down because it causes a large rich and poor gap and no middle class. Try to start a business in India and you'll be fighting with beaurocrats for years and years. Mexico is the same way.
