Meaning if it's just a traffic infraction to be missing a front plate, no law was broken, therefore he cannot be stopped and ID'd Same with "modified exhaust". It's not a waste of time for them because they get paid overtime for a court appearance. The court employees judge are already getting paid so it's just justification for their salaries. It's only an inconvenience for the civilian taking off work etc

You really can’t judge how loud something is from a video. From my experience, the louder the noise, the quieter it sounds in the video, as the sound overwhelms the microphone (I guess). Now if you’re talking and revving the engine at the same time, and the microphone picks up your voice with no issues, then I’d say the exhaust sound isn’t that loud. And keep in mind, exhaust noise level testing is performed close to the exhaust exit, not by the driver’s door.

It's possible the cop has seen DDE, but more likely Mark was profiled for his car. Cops stereotype the drivers of modded imports as trouble causing street racers and some go out of their way to harass them. I've had a few modified imports in the past, got hassled in every one of them by cops. Switched to a $90k Audi sedan, also modified and far faster than anything I've owned prior. Cops do not even glance at me. I don't register on their spider sense at all. They completely profile people based on the car.

Cops get paid to show up to court. That’s why they write BS tickets. They don’t have to take time off from work. It only inconveniences the person the cop is targeting.

The Loud or Unusual statute is for exhausts that are constructed such that they don't necessarily violate the noise threshold test, but are loud under particular circumstances - screamer pipes on turbo blowoffs, cutouts under throttle, pops crackles and bang tunes, afterburners and antilag, that sort of thing; or just plain obnoxious - hood exits may not neccesarily violate the noise threshold because so much sound energy is lost to the sky - or side exits that are close to the line but subjectively louder because they're pointing at the sidewalk instead of down the road, or bosuzoku pipes. A catback on a Honda ain't that. It's vague and subjective because it's intended to close abusable gaps - but as a result, it's a much harder charge to prove. Because it's vague and a surface read gives them probable cause to pull over whoever they want and go fishing for other charges, however, cops love it - and because it's vague and subjective, a lot of people won't bother fighting it if you write it anyway.
