They are rack systems, and honestly while I prefer the idea of enclosures for pets, when you are talking about a breeding operation these racks are the best way to go about things. Snakes are cryptic animals, so they tend to stay hidden most of the time unless they are an arboreal species.
Ball python breeders need to stick with ball pythons. It's the only way to save our hobby as well as other species from being overbred and turned into trading cards.
Ball python breeders? That's just an area of expertise for breeding. A breeder is a breeder and can breed any reptile they choose. It also gives other species like the viper boa more of a spotlight and understanding through keeping and breeding to share that knowledge.
Lucifer is awfully big for an aspera male. Are you sure that it isn't a female? My aspera Demetrius is only about 14" long at about 6 years old. My females are huge like that one by comparison.. He's spicy, too.
Have you ever seen a hermaphroditic snake? At a local shop we had a ball python that was over 5ft and probed as a female, but then it mated with a female it was being kept with. Apparently it was both male and female, but only the male reproductive bits worked. It was also one of the largest ball python I've ever seen. The only ball python I've seen that was larger was an old female of the Volta locality.
Okay these are still animals. Your handling them like they are just objects worth x amount of money or prestige. Don't they even deserve the right to hatch themselves and not be cut out of the egg?
No, it's not poisonous. Also, the word "poisonous" does not mean what you think it does. It's very important to understand the difference between venomous and poisonous. They are very different things and knowing the difference can save your life.
No. You probably can't name a poisonous snake species. They are absurdly rare. You are confusing venom and poison. But no, it's not venomous either. It's a boa.
Is he poisonous. He is so fast. I have a a simple ball python who is so friendly he just loves to hang all over me if I lie still. Never been bit. He's like an old turtle.
Very few snakes are actually poisonous. Infact I don't believe any snakes are naturally poisonous. The very few species that have been proven to be poisonous all get their poison from their diet and do not produce the toxins themselves. A possible exception MIGHT be a hognose snake. Its thought that their act of playing dead may be misunderstood. Its thought that they may actually be poisonous to eat, and that them "playing dead" isn't actually "playing dead" but instead a warning to predators that they are poisonous. It has not been proven yet though. They may not be poisonous at all, its just suspected. It is extremely important to understand the difference between poison and venom though. Unlike poisonous snakes, there are plenty of venomous snakes out there. Knowing the difference can absolutely save your life. None of the poisonous snakes out there are a significant threat to humans, but the venomous snakes are a totally different story.
