We ended up with a Sussex rooster from our co-op. Raised him from chick, he is awesome and getting huge. He is very vocal throughout the day and does engage in conversation which was unexpected 😂 he's always there to greet me by my driveway when i return from work.
@deborahmartin9672 he's chill and very protective of his flock. My son picks him up and hangs out with him. But he knows his job and does it well. Doesn't care for strangers in his territory (backyard). Definitely recommend, but we also kept them socialized with us all during raising from a week old to almost 8 months old now.
@deborahmartin9672 not sure about varieties, but all the reviews I have seen on them said they are top 10 rooster breeds to keep taking into consideration a variety of behaviors and factors
i just got a sussex chick today; it is the first time i keep a chicken as a pet. We were unsure at the petshop what the 'gender' of the chick is, as they are old enough to be without mom, but too young to show gender identification.
