I had a bonsai I saved up 100 dollars for, being a child i was very proud of it. I went on vacation for 4 weeks and my friend killed it, R.I.P Jerry Edit: from over a year later Jerry was the name of my bonsai.
Thats is terrible,,it wasnt anything like a Bonsai but i left my big Yucca plant with my sister for a week and she killed that,,really did me in that did as id had it for years and she kills it in less than a week..lol..
Bonsai trees are so fascinating. Some take over a century to make! To think, it’s like an actual tree that would’ve grown HUGE if not carefully and strategically clipped and taken care of in a certain way to make it look like a mini tree. Just incredible.
Bonsai trees are basically just domesticated plants, you can take great care of your bonsai, or you can let it fall into disrepair like this one was. It’s beautiful seeing the proper care and attention given to these beautiful trees, and just how much better they look once they’ve been cared for by someone with a passion for this art.
No wonder why bonsais are expensive (at least in my area), they really are majestic little trees, and the care for them is intensive. I hope that lovely bonsai could recover its former beauty.
Yeah they are usually pretty expensive. Last week I saw a bunch of really tall ones at Costco for sale for like $30 and they all were shaped the exact same way, made me very suspicious
I think the world is a little bit better of a place because of people like yourself, and I love getting a chance to see something very interesting unfold over time. Thanks very much for sharing!
As someone who believes that all plants are not only telepathic but more intelligent than human beings, thank you very much for saving this absolutely beautiful tree.
I think you should expand your channel from Bonsai to other indoor/home plants. It's very calming to watch your videos. I hope this channel gets the attention it deserves.
That's because of the fast draining soil (growing medium) they use. So you can water and fertilize them alot. So they can grow better. More optimal growth. If you used normal potting mix in one and watered it everyday like that it'd get waterlogged and die in no time. (And if you used normal pm and watered occasionally it just wouldn't grow as well) General purpose potting mixes are made like they are to hold more moisture and nutrients and require less watering/fertilizing because people are generally kinda lazy or time restricted and dont want to have to water their pot plants daily. Not for optimal growth.
@@iamthatguyfromslipknot1137 And now for Grammar Nutsy's Vocabulary Lesson 🤔 BREATH ("brĕth") noun. = air going in n out lungs BREATHE ("bree-th") verb.= the act of exchanging the air in the lungs with fresh new air. Don't worry, everybody makes the same mistake... just try to memorize it, and *NEVER DO THAT AGAIN!* 🤭🤭🤭
Maybe this was a time to slip pot to help revive, big pot for big roots to get some vigorous growth for rebuilding next year. Best of luck with that big boy ( the tree not you that is).
Up until this Spring that is what I would have done. It’s been very... enlightening, dealing with a 36-tree collection of bonsai. I will never slip pot again. But that’s a story for another day 🙂
@@grobonsai Well there's another video for the schedule...I feel you with looking after a bunch of trees. I went from a single tree as a gift before lockdown now I've got hundreds of seedlings and loads of prebonsai material. Your lonicera mame video was involved. It's slightly addictive especially if you have way too much spare time. Spring next year is going to be busy, but definitely keeping most shohin or mame not confident enough, or space, for a monster like that.
Probably wasn't intended but I took this as "you cannot grow more than your barriers allow you to, but if you expand those boundaries you'll live life to the fullest"
I'm guessing that was vermiculite he used to space the rootball away from the pot? Which makes sense I suppose , using it as a barrier to take advantage of air pruning.
@@SuperPeleke you're right, I caught a different video with subtitles that gave it away.... Appreciate the response though. My question is still, dose the substrate used take advantage of "air pruning" to allow for such long life?
@@SATORI0320 great question, complicated answer. The air pruning concept you're talking about applies more to the roots of trees grown in mesh baskets. And the benefits are a different discussion. What's happening with pumice and other substrates here is similar that it allows for a certain mixture of water and air exchange which is best for root growth, especially the fine roots that are beneficial.
i got an 367 year old Bonsai that is passed through our family since it was a sapling, survived 2 world wars, 6 bombings, 2 house fires wich left skars on the log. its almost 4 foot high at this point and is doing great its a Wacholder.
My mom has a juniper bonsai tree. She’s had if for years and it is absolutely stunning. She doesn’t garden or anything but she sure knows how to take care of a bonsai. I’m planning on getting and growing a bonsai tree of my own. I love these things.
Bonsai Trees absolutely fascinate me. You take a giant tree and shrink it down until you can literally carry it around with you. Perfect miniatures of the full size thing and love all types of miniatures. Plus, they're just beautiful! I wish I had one but dang it I have a black thumb rather than a green one... 🌱🌳🌲
I think you should do a tutorial series about keeping bonsai trees, I think that your expertise would help lots of people trying to get into bonsai trees.
i’m in the process of trying to grow my first bonsai tree! well not exactly *grow* at the moment; i’m in the process of keeping the softened seeds in the fridge in a little bag with a wet tissue for about 6 weeks! it’s not even been a week yet!!
I wish you lots of good luck. I tried growing bonsai seeds but sadly i thought it would be best to plant them in pots during autumn, at the time they would fall of the trees. But they decided to grow before spring and weren't able to get big or strong enough before the winter got them. Even though they were inside there just wasn't enough warmth and/or sunlight to keep them growing.
I love bonsai tree its like a normal big tree but little its look more beautiful and i feel like they know everything about life like they live for thousand of year 😌
