VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
Capt. Kate and Capt. Nate chose the unconventional route of tiny home living on a sailboat in the waters of Seward, AK. Dreams of being on the water led them to buying sailboats in FL at auctions and flipping them. Through this process they honed their DIY skills and their knowledge was put to great use when they purchased a Hunter 28.5 sailboat. A tour of the upgrades and the cozy living conditions give a glimpse into how life is managed on the high seas. Not only did Kate and Nate create their dream living situation, they also paved a career path by both becoming captains for their own charter company using the Encore. May you have fair winds and following seas Kate and Nate!

The American dream is rapidly changing with the proliferation of mobile income! Sailboat life is one of the freest options, is this something you are considering?

Yes, I’m not claustrophobic at all but this small space would change that, LOL!

Nice boat, but too small for 2 people. I used glacier ice in my cooler when I lived in Alaska. It lasts longer than store bought, and it's free. 👍🏻

Get an induction cook top. They're small, highly portable, inexpensive and will change your life!

Nic, I doubt they have enough power on board, would work if art the dock, only mentioned an alternator, no solar etc.
@Nic7320
@Nic7320 3 года назад
@@leoblumhagen644 Yeah, it needs about 1500 watts (you can turn them down, but they default to max power for some things), so it would be only used at the dock on shore power. Maybe it can also run off the alternator when running the diesel -- if the alternator is big enough.

Sometimes when you have to poop, you HAVE to poop! It's not waiting for time or tide, you'll be prairie doggin'! If you try to hold it, you're gonna have the worst cramps, IDK if you can actually injure yourself. 😲

The sailing folks that I watch on RU-vid all have catamarans. Super stable on open ocean seas, lots of room, easy to maneuver. I know, I’m a sailing purist also, but if I were to sail around the world I would definitely get a cat.

When I lived in Southeast Alaska the fishermen’s wives would have their husbands pick up some “Party Ice” for holiday time social gatherings. Party Ice is a chunk of calved ice for the punch bowl! ;)

I had a friend who lived on a 32 ft sailboat in Port Clinton Ohio. Even in the winter on Lake Erie - I don't think I could have done that because the winds are brutal and Lake Effect snow is awful.
@dinglebarry528

The hull would be so cold too. Yikes. I live in interior Alaska and the coldest that I’ve ever been in my life was when I lived near the Great Lakes and that lake effect cold. -45 doesn’t feel that bitter.

So if uou have to poop out on the water, ya just don't? I need answers! Lol, awesome boat
@Nic7320

A 28 foot boat will have a marine head (i.e. toilet, you barely see @5:45) with a holding tank. At the marina they have pump out stations.
@WatchDoggyDog
@WatchDoggyDog 3 года назад
@@Nic7320 yea but she said their toilet was #1 only. Maybe she meant that only while docked.
@Nic7320
@Nic7320 3 года назад
@@WatchDoggyDog Marine heads are designed to handle both 1 & 2... standing or sitting. I'll check the video again to see if they have a composting toilet, which also accepts 1 & 2, but the #2 requires composting material to be added beforehand, and disposed of later. If they didn't prep it first, then restricting it to only #1 makes sense.

I never be able to live in a boat: I have horrible seasickness, even in a cruise I spent my days throwing all my life. Never again. Nice boat and they live the life they dream of: it's heaven on water.
