Young Filipino Bride 19, Marries Expat 63, What could go wrong?  

Moral of story. If you're an old fart don't marry a teenager. It's doomed for failure.

When you come to Asia you really need to just keep your mouth shut and pay attention of what is going on around you and the people,I've survived Vietnam,Cambodia,laos,Thailand i in the 60's,70's 80's,2000's and on but I'am a cynic and don't trust anybody,I really liked this story and I don't feel sorry for the guy,it's sad but he is one of those guys who should never have come to Asia.

I know this area very well as I sponsor a 5 year old child thru Feed the Children that is in an orphanage in Davao City. This is an American based nonprofit corporation that vets all orphanages in many countries to insure legitimacy. The Mom was a single mother from the Restricted Area and the father an Australian who abandoned her during the year after the young girl was born. To understand this Muslim mentality the mother was told when the child was born that while with this Australian that she was not welcomed back into this part of Mindanao. She was told by her parents if she came back to visit that there was a good chance that the Australian, the mom and the child would be severely hurt or killed. Because of the the daughter having this religious mixed ethnic baby the Mom and child could never go back and both would be in danger. As a result this girl gave her 1 year old to the orphanage. Just to let people know many rich Filipinos help out these orphanages and sponsor children. But most of the Christian Filipinos won't sponsor a half Muslim child. As a result Angeline had been on the sponsor waiting list the longest of any child. My $38 a month now converts to 2128 pesos per month. This pays for housing in a girls dorm style housing with bunk beds, food, clothing, personal items and school up until 12th grade. It is estimated in the Philippines that it costs 2000 pesos per month to take care of a child with necessities in a regular Philippines household. I am telling about this because many don't understand this extreme religious conflict and danger that exists in this part of Mindanao. No foreigner is safe in this area and no foreigner is safe if they date a Filipina from this area that might be working in one of the bigger cities in Mindanao. The Philippines military has had to recently go into this area as it is where Malaysian Muslim extremist groups export illegal drugs into the Philippines and where terrorists are in the Philippines. Be safe while in Mindanao and if you can sponsor a child in any country that you can. The prior child I sponsored was in Poland and she was adopted and is now in high school living in a nice home. The girl in the Philippines just started kindergarten. Because of her ethnic heritage I doubt she will ever be adopted. This problem of mixed religion children is similar to how Korean American babies were treated after the Korean War when Americans had to leave their kids behind.

Fascinating story! I once heard a saying about getting in a serious relationship in the Philippines- "don't be worth more dead than you are alive".

It is a sad story, but it goes down to his own stupidity.

I was born in the UK and lived there until I was twenty nine. I have been a US citizen for twenty years and it is very different here. In the UK we have the Anglican church that nobody ever attends. Anybody in the UK professing themselves to be a preacher will be suffered as a lunatic and marginalised. In Britain we have Vicars, that is an Anglican priest, but we just don't have people claiming to be preacher, except lunatics. "Friend", any British person claiming to be a preacher and, if they have any money, take it, for the good of society.

You have to think why a 19 year old would want to be with a 63 year old, only for money, i'm 63, I only go for ladies between 35-43, most have grown up children, why would I want a young girl, nothing in common, all they do is play on their phones everyday

@Unseen Thailand In Chiang Mai I feel sorry for the UK pastor who lost his life. I'm sure money and her not wanting to be with him anymore had lots to do with it. Men often confuse sex with love. If a woman is having sex with you, then she must love me. WRONG. Women love sex too and are just as devious as men are. SIDE NOTE: The streets in Chaing Mai seem boring. Perhaps it was just too early in the morning. I've been to Bangkok and Patong, Phuket and it's quieter in the morning, but not that quiet. IT's peaceful, but it seems boring.

Yeah that’s a shame however for every story like this which is rare by the way is 100 successful stories like you said he was in a bad area and he happened to meet a bad young lady as well you have to keep your wits about you but most Asian women are very caring I would never hurt anyone. That’s why the story make the headlines because it does not happen every day to this extent.

First, Zambonga is no more dangerous than any other place in the PI. I lived there (Dipolog/Labason/Zambonga) for 5 years. Second, my marriage is different than yours, the rolls we play in the relationship are different than yours. That does not make it wrong. My wife is 26 years my junior, married 19 years so far. If you want a second chance at fatherhood you had better marry a young woman.

The overhead wires amazes me. Love all the mom/pop stores along the street. As you may remember they were here in the USA many years past especially in the smaller town until Walmart came and literally ran them out.

Wat Chedi Luang sometimes charges for entrance but at other times does not charge. The number of tourists in town seems to be a determining factor, The large Chedi in the rear was damaged in an earthquake several hundred years ago. If you go a block over from the entrance, at the rear you can walk in without paying. I am no expert but I have been married to two Chinese women. (one got cancer) Language problems and unrealistic expectations based on Hollywood movies are big factors. Now my Thai girlfriend is ethnically Chou Zhu Chinese but was raised in Bangkok. As Mister Spock noted in Star Trek, it is illogical to assume things do not change. I'm 473 dog years old so it won't matter much longer.

First of all the age difference alone was asking for all kinds of trouble imo. When the driver set them up in the same room that should have been a red flag pimp alert. Rule number one for expats. Leave your culture at home and be ready to adapt otherwise stay at home. God won´t judge you based on that. You don´t need to pray to a foreign deity but don´t preach your religion to those who have already chosen their path, don´t be a devil to them. Rule number two. Where there is light, there is a shadow which has been cast by it. As grand as it shine as grand of an impact its shadow has. Do not die an ignorants death. Benevolence and piety does not require you to burden the burdended.
