Je ne connaissais pas cette interprétation. Quel choc !
One of the most beautiful melodies that I've ever heard in my life. It sounds so gentle, soft, noble and tragic, which for me describes the fragility of beauty in life.
Yes, you are right. And now listen please the variant of Christophe Rousset on Harpsichord (Pièces de clavecin avec une méthode sur la mécanique des doigts - Le rappel des oiseaux)
This is so sublime. I got goosebumps through the whole piece. Gilels packed _so much_ emotion into every note. Thank you to Vikingur Olafsson for highlighting this recording in his Deutsche Grammophon interview!
I have a harpsichord LP record sleeve from the 1960s that states "Couperin's music (and Rameau's by implication) is useless as piano music." But then along came Gilels and Sokolov!

But at the age of 12 Mila had nearly abandon music exercises and flew to the courtyard to play soccer. His elder sister Fanny (they were orphans) did her best to return him to the music. Her sister Lusa did not have such troubles, she plaed violin, also marvelously.
Just heard Sergei Babayan play this in recital. His performance was also incredible: the mordents were full of longing. So fortunate to discover this incredible composer. I will be listening to more of his works.
@NaitsabesWinklersson yeah apparently even glenn gould admired gilels' playing, i think he mentioned that the latter's performance of the g major french suite was something of an inspiration to him.
