True. And same goes for us in the US: we produced the worst war criminal of the 21st century, GWBush and his idiot brigade. Every 2 or 4 or 6 years, we elect talkers who run a PR job on us. And sadly for the world, we have our criminal org out of Langley VA and the Pentagon and Washington generally, who go around manipulating and wrecking other countries. We seem determined to talk enough to drum up a war with an imagined China now. Eisenhower warned us we were being taken over. Countries are producing hardmen/softmen in reaction to us, instead of leaders focused on doing good for their own peace-loving citizens. All our brothers and sisters across the world🌎🌍🌏🌌🌱

Every now and then Daniil comes across a young person who flips the bird to the kremlin (and Pooptin in particular), you can see it in the way they look around with a bit of hesitation and a bit of fear in their eyes, not an easy task in modern-day Russia. Not all Russians support that war, when i was in Russia, i asked 20 friends about the situation, most of them have some kind of relationship with Ukrainians and don't support that stupid war. A lot of people can't talk because if you talk, you'll be in prison soon, most of my friends can't change their location because they just don't have money for it. Some kind of people tried to leave russia, but nowadays it's hard to be Russian and you can think about a comeback to russia because people in russia won't blame you because of the nation. A lot of countries buy russian gas/oil but if russian people ask for a stay permit (just to prevent being in war and killing people), it will be refused.

I was trying to say that everything is changing so fast, i think it's possible to see a new government in 2 days or 20 years, you will never guess it. But most young people don't support war. I saw a video which was made by some russian soldier, he said that people in Moscow underground told him "you are a killer" and asked "who did u go there?". You won't see a lot of videos where Russians don't support that war, you know why? It's not good for propaganda. The Russian government wanna show that everyone supports war to have more soldiers, the Ukrainian government will say that everyone in russia supports war because russians are stupid bloody orcs. If you don't know the subject extremely well, you can think that all of us wanna kill other people, but that's not true, i don't want to. (Sorry for my English)

It suits putins regime to allow a few young liberal types without much power to criticise him. Look up ksenia sobchak, his goddaughter. He has in the past let her run against him, knowing she won't win but it gives the system legitimacy as a supposed democracy. Even she went too far though and had her house raided and was arrested when the invasion started. People like Navalny who have real potential for power however are completely destroyed. It's so true regarding a leader with longer terms. History tells us that when a good leader holds his power for a long time they usually tend to commit mistakes that end up ruining the future of his country. For now, Russia's situation comes to the point of no more counter checking especially from the public. And the sad part of this is the future generations that are most likely to carry these burdens.

I think the problem is not only for russians, but for the whole world. I know is utopic, but there should be a mechanism to prevent any president of any country to stay more than say 8 years. In the globalized world we live now the actions of only 1 president affects many other countries, like Cuba, Venezuela, Russia, etc, etc.
@jansSanduz
@jansSanduz 8 месяцев назад
@@pablobertuzzi3439 Yes I agree. All countries should have a limited term for presidency or prime ministers. Check and balance is one of the key factors for democracy to work well. And check and balance always the first one to be gone whenever a country is having a long term president/leader. And most presidents who start up in good leadership are the one to longer in office and usually end up ruining his country. Such addiction to power consumes them and ends up being the worst leaders.

Perhaps it's cherrypicking from the interviewer but I was more than pleasantly surprised by the intelligence, opinions and insight of the interviewees.

I like to think that we in the US have a more realistic view of Putin than the Russian public does, but actually, Russians experience a broader life than we can know . I had the good fortune a few years ago of visiting Ukraine twice for about 1 to 2 weeks and then traveling to Russia for several days in Moscow, followed by a train ride into the interior and a visit to an industrial plant. I found the people of Russia to be very kind, but under far more stress than those I met in Ukraine. In Russia I saw few people smiling, but many more smiling in Ukraine. I have traveled to more than 35 countries over the years, and find that people are largely the same, but their economic and political systems vary widely. Parts of the US are brutal, others are laid back and still others are highly competitive. People need freedom, but they also need an economic system that helps them to succeed. Education is probably stronger in Russia than in the US, but opportunities may be fewer. It is not clear that Putin is putting the best interests or will of the Russian people first. They are aware of the propaganda, but have little ability to change things. Unfortunately the Ukrainian people suffer from Putin’s ego.

Having a democracy, independent media, civil society would help. But I don't think Russia is ever capable of becoming a normal democracy.
