It's the Peyton Manning tax. No one gives his supporting cast their just due anymore. They undervalue their impact because of him. Edge, Marvin, Wayne, Clark all victims. Marv got HOF, but very few want to acknowledge he was consistently the top wr of his era, or even put him on a level with T.O. and Moss. The rest are waiting on HOF.

As a diehard Marino fan(and later on, a Manning fan), this one of those games that I’ll never forget. This is by far the best one NFL throwback put on because I’m a huge Dan Marino fan and a Dolphin fan. Despite Marino never winning the big games, he was by far the greatest QB to play the game back then. And sadly, that 99 year was his last due to neck issues, imagine if he stayed till at least two more years with the Dolphins (or he could’ve went to Minnesota via Free Agengy) the Dolphins would of at least made it to the AFC title game, especially with that defense they had in the early 2000s.

I’ve heard people say that Aaron Rodgers is the most talented thrower of the football in NFL history. Peoples sense of history is so revisionist at times, because you cannot tell me that after watching Marino in his prime or even in these highlights, that he’s not at least as great if not greater a passer then Rodgers ever was. On another note, this was a great and competitive game and they didn’t need special changes to the rules to make it a shoot out. They actually played defense and we’re still able to put up points.
@STP43FAN1
@STP43FAN1 5 лет назад
They play defense all the same now. People saw the 54-51 Rams win over the Chiefs and just assumed the league had outlawed defense. What followed? Defenses figured it out and scoring plummeted, illustrated by the Cowboys win over the Saints a few weeks after the Rams-Chiefs eruption. People need to stop overvaluing rule "changes" because they're not changing anything.
@ag358
@ag358 4 года назад
The rules changes are significant, QBs can play longer and less beat up now. And its much easier on the receiver to catch knowing they're not gonna get speared by a 220lb helmet smash.

Those ppl who talk about Mahomes like he's the greatest need to come back and see the 90s qbs. These guys are some tough mofos who earned every penny not like the overpaid qbs now. @claudeabraham2347

Actually, the old rules were before 1978. D backs could bump the receiver all the way down the field until ball was in the air. Before 1977, O lineman could only block with forearms, no use of hands. These 2 rule changes opened up the passing game. All quarterbacks from 1978 on had these new rules to benefit them. Marino was certainly great. But all his opponents had the same rules he did. Of course, the rules have changed since then, favoring offense a little more. His yardage stats would likely be higher today. But keep in mind, that other qb's in Marino's day, went to SB's, & some won them. Elway was a year older than Marino, went to 5 SB, winning 2. Kelly was Elway's age, went to 4 SB, almost won 1. Rule changes certainly inflate qb yards, efficiency, td passes, etc. But every game, including SB, has just 1 winner & 1 loser. Changing rules to produce more offense, as has been done, improves stats for both QB in every game. Rule changes do not improve win-loss records. DM had a very good regular season record, but only 8-10 in playoffs. That is something that won't go away.
@iamtman1
@iamtman1 5 лет назад
Claude , marino’s Numbers dwarfed all his contemporaries ( Elway, Montana, kelly etc) . You’re confusing team success to QB greatness. Elway, kelly, etc went to more Super Bowls than Marino because their teams were better, not because Marino wasn’t better than those QB’s. He was better.

Classic manning and Harrison on the last drive. I've seen that a million times over. The Z on a flat and X (Harrison) on a slant. Guy was unbelievable on them. He broke with so much explosion on the 7th and 9th steps. He made literally everything look the exact same, which all the greats do yes but he was the master at it. Wether it was a slantngo, skinny post or a corner post, or a deep In/ Dig, or a go and his insane comback. A QB's dream, best timing route runner maybe ever. In my opinion he's the 3rd best ever after Jerry and Moss.
