Young Thug’s Defense Demands Mistrial After Rapper’s Song Lyrics are Questioned

During cross-examination of the state’s gang expert, Young Thug’s defense attorney motioned for a mistrial. During the expert’s testimony, she said Thug mentioned “licks” which are allegedly actions that make people look good and can lead to higher rankings among gang members. The expert later testified that licks were "just part of Thug’s life" - that’s when his defense attorney motioned for a mistrial. The judge asked the defense to write up their motion and she’d eventually review it.

Young Thug faces nearly a dozen charges, including possession of drugs and weapons, participation in criminal street gang activity, and conspiracy to violate Georgia’s RICO Act. The rapper was arrested in May of 2022 along with 27 other alleged gang members. Many of those defendants have taken plea deals in the case.

It's ridiculous that some has to claim to be a "gang expert" or lyrics expert when there is no such thing when the truth is that title really isn't necessary for someone to be able to say that in their over 10 year career dealing with street gangs, they have found out that SOMETIMES song lyrics, correlate to actual crimes that have been committed, making it a reasonable conclusion that the two things did not occur as a coincidence. You don't have to call yourself an expert. WHAT it comes down to is whether the jury believes he's was singing about shooting up Lucci's mom's house....an arch rival of his.....or maybe he was just bragging about shooting up an imaginary enemy's mom's house. 😅. I'm sure we've blown past the record by a long way, at least for Georgia. This became the longest trial in Georgia history several months ago and I think we've had at least a couple of mistrial motions a week, so I don't see how any other trial could come close unless they were having multiple motions a day. (There was a 2.5 year trial in California. From what I've heard of it, it wouldn't surprise me if there were a lot of mistrial motions there too, so it might not be the most in US history.)

I think the first judge was corrupt legitimately what is on the side of the district attorney. I feel like this just is just kinda crooked. Like she was picked because someone knows that she will play ball and this case over the finish line so the state isn't completely embarrassed. She's not supposed to "want" a mistrial. She's supposed to want the state to present its evidence, the defense to rebutt, and for the JURY to decide what they believe and don't believe. The fact that they keep jumping up unhinged begging for the judge to wave a wand and make these charges go away forever, actually seems a bit weak. It seems like they're afraid to let it get to the jury.

Imagine if the judge from the Baldwin trial presided over this court? You know…a judge with INTEGRITY? The FIRST time a Brady violation was proved in that case, immediate mistrial.
