Thug is one of the most experimental and diverse rappers ever when it comes to flow and vocal performance, he has tons of styles to discover. Theres tons of skill in this song, dude changed his flow like 4 or 5 times in it. Also he didnt write anything down, all his songs are freestyles, just like his biggest influence - Lil Wayne. Check "Killed Before" or "Homie", totally diffrent vibes.
The drug talk is jus a part of trap music. A lot of trap music isn’t meant to be dissected lyrically. jus meant to enjoy and appreciate the sounds. With thugger u especially wanna listen to the vocals.
'Best Friend' is a great early impression type song from him, he's one of those guys that is so versatile that if you don't like some of his stuff, he will have something else interesting and different you might like...but once he clicks with you, youll love everything 😂 great reaction and appreciate the honesty.
5:32 That’s 100% correct. Not sure if you’re a Lil Wayne fan but Thug is obviously inspired by Wayne heavily and saying weird stuff is one of the many things he took from Wayne
The only time people seen thug with a pen is when they catch him drawing pictures 😅 Btw, This is Barter 6 aka The Carter 6. (Lil wayne names his albums carter 1 2 3 4) and 5 was delayed for long time. So thug decided to make a sequel long before 5 ever came out. Pretty ironic to due to the fact that he was in cahoots with birdman at the time and still is, to certain degrees.
I'm surprised you didn't react to the 11-second long SKKRRRRRRRRRT in the first verse lol good review though, you caught that the energy of the song keeps building and building and getting weirder and weirder... then with a melodic slur break... then back to the energetic flow where much of the appeal is he's hitting you with weirdo punchlines. You got the essence of thug in just one song, while most people he puzzles can't keep up with it
It would be dope if u kept reacting to the weeknd, I feel like you have been mostly reacting to his newer poppy stuff which isnt that interesting musically. I recommend the song XO/The Host by The Weeknd. His old stuff is influenced by 90s trip hop, I think youd love it.
3:37 thug don't write. On paper i don't think even thugger would be able to write the things he's saying to us 🤣 not because he can't write at all or something.. I'm just saying he quite literally wouldnt get the rhymes out the same way on paper.
My first love for rap when i was a kid was old school shit like run dmc, egyptian lover, whodini, african bambata and then fell in love with all the cliche west coast shit and then fell in love with the technical side of hip hop like nas jay big l blah blah and at the time new music was going and that stuff was just okay for me, but it wasn't till young thug i fully crossed over to new age rap and ever since around 2012 young thug has stolen my heart. To me he is like the messiah of rap music. Music is like God its not meant to be written about or understood, maybe for the philosophical aspect but even then it just becomes intellectual masturbation. Music is meant to be felt.
