"Art left idle calls out to us." . . . Yes, yes it does. Trust me on that. Don't give up, even if you are making art for the sake of expressing yourself. Don't give up.
I really liked this. Been reflecting on these themes myself, and uncoincidentally i keep coming across the topic online. I read elsewhere this morning: 'a real, mature, artist keeps going regardless of success.' I've always struggled with imposter syndrome in the past, but after all these years, you know what i am a real musician. I will be for the rest of my life. Cheers man
I like that quote you found a lot! happy to hear that you'll be making more music too! and surely, you are a real musician. thank you for watching the video, cheers to you as well!
Every doubtful artist should challenge themselves to list several personal reasons why being consistent with their art is worth it, especially when they're doubting themselves - good exercise
I make videos on this topic too and I definitely agree with you. Being a person creating and completing (!) works of art can do a lot for us as people, developing our skills and sense of self as we find our way in the world. But this isn't necessarily unique to art, and it would apply to most skills and projects we take on as hobbies in life. It extends to running marathons as well as building or repairing bird houses for example. But I think there's also something in art itself that is special. So, while I agree that art is important, and has instrumental value in improving the artist as a person (for reasons you mention), I also think that art has unique value that few other things have. So, with the risk of sounding pretentious, art is important for art's sake. Art has existential qualities that makes it unique, and I think this is why art is so powerful in healing or helping people during hard times. Anyway. Nice video! Seems like we have a lot of overlap with our channels and what we discuss. Subscribed!
I resonated with so much! Especially the parts about having off days, art calling out to us and creating to make us a better. I believe creativity is healing. As you said so beautifully "creating art for a better you and the relationships with those around us." 🧡
