We have wanted a solar power solution for our Toyota sequoia for a while now. We wanted the ability to park at a trailhead and be able to set off for longer hikes and still have the ability to power our fridge and collect power for camping overnight. This specific setup has worked great and it's really inexpensive. Your overland build needs this $100 solar setup too. This is a great option for those wanting to build their overland rig on a budget.

I did charge the Jackery with the AC household plug charger again and it charges at 39 watts so the solar panel, when it has a substantial amount of sunlight available, absolutely crushes 12v and 110 charging with over 60 watts coming in. Hope this helps!

*100% best **Generater.Systems** I have used. A test for hurricane prep here in Louisiana: three AC units, 5000, 5000 & 8000, 3 fridges, 2 device power setups, 4 flat screens....AND I had 40% of the power meter to spare.*

Thanks for posting this. I was wondering how I was going to get my wires inside the vehicle. I surely didn't want to cut a hole and use a gland. When running the wires down the door crack how did you get the wires actually into the vehicle?

Make it movable/flipable si that you can adjust the angle to the sun! It will increase the amount of carging a lot!

Fun side note: my jackery 300 fits inside the rear storage compartment on my 1st gen. Thinking of setting something up more permanent in there out of the way and hidden. Stealthy too with the Solar flat on roof racks.

Nice upgrade dewd! I just setup a new power station thing too and wanted to share this cheap as heck Lithium ion battery pack I'm gunna get to do the same thing. Yes my new energizer 240 station runs my gaming laptop for in field edits but I also wanted, like, a cheaper power bank type solution. So I am sharing these retired medical batteries as a cheap big Mah that won't freeze and fail. Check it out. Valence U1-12RT 12.8v 40Ah

I’m thinking about this one here: amzn.to/3uNTlM0 You of course will need a solar charge controller to go with it but those can be had cheaply on Amazon also

This might be an OCD question but did you happen to notice any increase in in cabin noise after the panel install? Just curious.
@TheFraziers
@TheFraziers 3 года назад
We haven’t done extensive testing but after a brief stretch of interstate driving, maybe about 15 miles at a sustained 80 mph, we noticed no noise from the panel.

I may or may not be the first person to say this. However please be careful using the extension cable that s thinner because the more electricity you put through a cable the thicker the cable should be. I’d just keep an eye on the temperature of the thinner cable but please let me know how it works
@TheFraziers

@TheFraziers
@TheFraziers 2 года назад
The solar panel was like $80, and the cables brought me barely over $100, so I’m not really sure where you got the idea from? I’m clearly not including a battery in the cost. The assumption is that you already have something for that and the solar components are simply additional to that.
