Your Complete No Nonsense Photo Editing Guide
In this video I breakdown my simple approach to photo editing in a clear step by step process that you can follow along and implement in your own workflow. Will be using Lightroom CC on iPad but realistically any app or software with similar features will be the same.

Personally I crop first. I want to finish setting up the composition first so that parts that are cropped out of the photo don't affect my judgement or Adobe Lightroom's AI.

The hardest part of editing for me is that I’m too indecisive. I have a look in mind that I want to create, but then I also have another style that I want to do, one part of me wants to have the shadows well exposed, another part of me wants to crush the blacks.

So after wondering why the editing process felt too digital or like I was making "too many" edits, this video came up on my feed. And I won't lie, I'm not exactly the systematic workflow kind of person but after trying out the steps on 5-10 of the photos I took (also Fuji) I am ABSOLUTELY BLOWN AWAY by how minimalistic my edits are now, but the end result is huge and super satisfying for me. I understand editing much more now and I just wanted to say HUGE THANKS! Been subbed to your channel since the pandemic days and I really think this is going to help my workflow. It also made me realize how easy it is to edit Fuji colors haha

3:40 Perspective Distortion occures everytime the sensor of the camera is not perfectly flat in line against the object you are photographing. It doesnt only occure on wide angle lenses, you just can see it better, as you see more of the picture overall. Thats why people use shiftlenses for architecturphotography. So the sensor and the object they are photographing are in the same direction. This way you dont need the upright feature in Lightroom and do it in camera. If thats what you meant when you said you dont understand it.

My edit workflow is a bit unconventional because i use an NLE not photo sodftware. I do put all my photos in a timeline in davinci resolve and use the colour grading tools as if I were grading video. Powerful software, really fast workflow to make batch edits and film emulation. Downside is it is a JPG only workflow, cropping is a little complicated (but I tend not to crop and just do a 1:1 ratio timeline and let images have black bars since it works well for instagram and I can crop bars off later) The bigger limitations are the lack of layers and tools like brushes but I find that keeps me from over editing and keeps me focused on making macro adjustments I can export as LUTs or powergrades to use later. Its a weird/unprofessional method but I find its super nimble for batch editing hundreds of photos at a time and the node based tools essentially functions like layers.

@@atlasachaoui3534 I have setup some custom settings but tend to use the same one based on Standard/Provia film simulation with -1 Shadows and +1 Highlights so nothing too extreme. When I review the shots on the back of the camera I apply in camera RAW conversion (this can be changing the film simulation, tweaking white balance and exposure etc. All by feel really) as necessary to only the shots I like. Later in lightroom maybe add some straightening or a crop and maybe some further tweaks. I used to use X RAW studio. I shoot with JPEG + RAW, just in case I take a special shot.

I use a plugin (IXT) it basically transfers the fuji RAF to DNG and takes care of Lens Corrections, Arburations etc and you can manually adjust the setup so it processes every photo with same settings...... The Fuji film simulations are in LR at the top look for 4 squares.

Distortion is mostly due to the camera not being level, I.e. pointed up or down at an angle. I rarely correct for it in this kind of shot unless it’s distracting. You can fix it without software by making sure lines are straight and moving the camera up and down without tilting it. For horizontal distortion you need to move left or right. Horizontal distortion is less distracting usually and gives depth. You will probably need to crop and obstacles can be in the way or perspective change, so it’s not always possible to just move. A tilt and SHIFT lens would be the ultimate way to fix this but easier to just keep the camera level or use software.
@paulchoccyt1303
@paulchoccyt1303 3 года назад
If you're using an XT4 you shouldn't be using lens corrections etc built into Lightroom..... Fuji Files work better processed differently.
