I can't thank you enough Dr. Greene for the time you set aside each day for these thoroughly enjoyable and enlightening sessions. More generally, your ability to communicate physics and cosmology to the world, here and in your talks, is unsurpassed. You are informed, intelligent, articulate, and engaging. That's a pretty good combination! (P.S. I am a semi-retired Canadian professor of psychology with a passion for both my own field and physics. So much to learn, so little time).

Thank you so much Professor Greene. I'm a spiritual person as well. It's absurd to me to think that "brave" would be a descriptor of someone who says they're spiritual but this is the world we find ourselves in. The aggression I face any time I ask a question that makes folks think I'm spiritual is so in-your-face that sometimes I just don't ask. I'm ashamed to admit that. I have so many questions. Thank you.

Good Morning Dr. Greene from Smithtown, NY: 1) What kind of math / equation did Niels Bohr use to arrive that electrons are in fixed energy levels around the atom, i.e. are QUANTIZED. 2) Can anything be said about the velocity or acceleration of an electron around the atom ? If they are moving around the nucleus in a circular orbit (??) how come there is no emission of radiation, or are they not moving ? Thanks for your show and contribution to scientific education. -An Engineer & Scientist @ Soliton Hedge Fund

Holy She@! This ur best video yet, Brian... uh, Sir. I've just now had so many ideas (visions) that i debated on even commenting (decided to make a video [audio] instead); but here goes nothing: 1.) I love ur take on the idiocracy of the modern, academic/industrial system of teaching details and ranking performance behavior instead of cognitive/creative capacity and bigger picture comprehension/level of inspiration ("to be "in spirit" of, and therefore willing to learn any, particular details, work hard, and to follow ALL company rules, even on ur off days and durings vacations). If any one company (like Apple or Tesla) finds a short-cut into tapping the fascist (or communist) versions of our capital systems for TALENT, rather than details or continuity of behavior and child psychology; then such a corporate trifecta of: Junior Jenius Jedi {baby Einsteins and "by-the-book" types; Kid Knights of Whizz {super hackers and rebellious types who COULD do the work, but feel no "motivation"; and the Silicon Valley Surfers {artists and free-thinkers, who would often do equally as well or even better in math or other "details"}, will totally rule over this world. I suggest that in "our" future; adult humans and parents of children should be paid to home-school in organic and online fashion, such as the child's own curiosity and passion for learning dictates. This variable pay rate would be based on the quality of the final product (education), quality of educational outcome (behavior of the child), and/or- the development of a suitable, foundational understanding or excellence of comprehension for a given industry or a specific, corporate sponsor (tax-payer). Such a transition away from the communist-style system of education would save money on road-repair (fewer Moms on the road, shuttling kids) and there would be no more buses to maintain, no more of these large, inefficient school buildings to heat and cool (which is also good for the environment). These advanced, liberal contestants for our tax-payer dollars could then be "hired" by the system, and directed towards a personality-specific, suitable industry. Only at working age or "age of maturity", would these kid geniuses then be given the specific, field-relevant, trade-secr3t, technical training- needed for their future employment. This leads me to 2.) if u think the FUTURE is the "big mystery" then u got more faith in the continuity of human civilization and technology than i do. I feel like the past is the "bigger mystery"- all of the books and videos of the past that I want to know about, read or see/analyze, have been destroyed by: fire, flood, natural disasters, Northern Invaders (library of Alexandria), Greeks, Romans, Catholics, and in recent decades, we have Nazis of all sorts of religions to do our book-burning and rewriting of history. History is written by "winners"- which is often the worst sorts of really brutal AND dumb, "believers" (who have never done an actual science experiment in their life). For example: Our Oil Kings are now-a-days denying that Thomas Edison invented and manufactured the lithium-ion battery, in it's current form. This modern, e invention is credited to a "John" somebody, a science professor from Texas, and a couple of imported, Japanese "assistants". I have found several, ancient, hard-backed textbooks and technical manuals that prove beyond reasonable doubt that nothing much of history class is even remotely accurate, nor worthy of your child wasting his time to learn. What was the "Antikythera mechanism" really used for, and who built it? What if somebody had followed in Charles Babbage's footsteps, and perfected the mechanical supercomputer, centuries ago? Lots of room for fiction and speculation in the past. Conversely: the future seems to never "change"- or at least cultures and human nature seems very reluctant to- which leads a great deal of predictability. If you want to see the future, just watch "The Simpsons" or "Futurama". These crystal balls function really, really well; seen that "the future" is any human timeline or political trajectory- all of which are "doomed to repeat itself"- unless inspired by an outside force (or large sums of "hush money", lobby money, war, civil war, social or environmental collapse). Add-in the advent of "deep-fakes" and AI projection, and now the "history" and "news" or videos of the past are wholly unreliable. The past is truly "unknowable", more "fun" to speculate about. 3.) I really liked your thoughts about the in-coming spacetime of expansion (dark energy) being related to negative gravity, dark gravity or apparent insufficiency thereof; possibly related to Casimir force or maybe the Higg's field itself. I'd love to hear more about these on-going experiments. Excellent video. I want to plug ur channel, and recommend Folks subscribe. I really enjoyed it a lot. Thanks!

@WorldScienceFestival Is it possible to create smaller particle accelerators without reducing their effectiveness? Hi Professor Greene. I respect your spiritual perspective and share your universal view. I also admire you as a great teacher. With respect to gravity, can you help me understand the curvature of 2D spacetime concept proposed in the general theory of relativity. If a mass curves spacetime, wouldn't everything be pulled towards one of the poles of the spherical mass in question. And wouldn't there be a tendency to repel objects that approach the mass from the reverse side of spacetime? What would you say about the possibility that the distribution of the Higgs particle is asymmetric and if energy or force-carrying bosons move through an area of high Higgs density during the early universe, and if they are able to interact with the Higgs field (eg by the ability to carry and transiently exchange a weak hyper charge (W+ boson), they gain sufficient drag to cause their mass to increase or spin to decrease (transforming some of them perhaps into fermions) which then leads to particle/mass formation with which we are so familiar. Gravity then would not be a necessary component of the early universe causing hydrogen atoms coming together in the early universe to form stars and galaxies. Gravity could certainly be the result of bundled energy (mass) from asymmetric Higgs distribution causing a curvature of spacetime not so much from the 2D perspective of a flat sheet but the 10D perspective of your string theory.

Could tachyons perhaps explain dark energy since you said when these hypothetical particles lose energy that they would speed up not slow down? Would tachyons have to be massless? If so I would guess they could not account for dark matter or is my understanding flawed? I hope your mother is doing okay. Thanks for these shows.

Hello, I was wondering Given that light/photons are affected by the force of gravity/mass, would that force also affect the velocity of light/photons? Passing into the Earths atmosphere and refracting slightly, as well as a reduction in speed. Could the gravitational pull increase the lights velocity, countering the reduction due to our atmosphere.

@22:47 A friendly reminder of the great truth. Just because you can not imagine something within the scope of your understanding does not make it a nonfact. There used to be a time in mankind's understanding they could not imagine ever going over 100 miles per hour. Understand this, all flow is the same. there is not anything that vibrates that does not radiate to everything else, through the Higgs field, and in the Higg field, everything is in a state of vibration because of the Higgs field. Just because you can not measure a condition does not mean it does not exist. If you have no instrument to detect the root cause of a phenomenon, it puts it outside of your understanding, your dimensional awareness being unable to peer into the realm can not measure.

Hi, and additionally the time dilation problem, if either party can claim to be at rest, the others time will appear to be passing at a slower rate? There for, relative to each other, the same can be said about the time dilation. Is this just illusion? Or does the argument that at constant velocities either party can claim to be at rest, not apply. But on a galactic scale both are in motion, maybe due to the gravitational influence? Okay, we have two orbiting satellites, going in opposite directions. Constant velocity, no acceleration, will their time pieces record time at the same rate, why?

Brian tackled the question of human awareness (1'04'15) and Penrose's 'microtubules'. The "hard problem of consciousness" is how physical particles can give rise to the sensation of being aware, with all its subtle corollaries. Of course any discussion of this is speculation, but it is interesting to consider awakened, or self-realized individuals. They find this "problem" to be trivial, in the mathematical sense. Unlike in previous times, there are currently many self-identified awakened individuals, and their reported experiences are interesting. Our everyday conscious awareness is like the light of the Moon as compared with the light of the Sun of an awakened individual. They describe existence in a remarkably consistent way as consisting of one single consciousness, which serves as THE underlying reality. Animals, including humans, can then reflect that consciousness to greater or lesser extents within a universe and physical reality that is somehow based on the expanded notion of the one conscious awareness. What I mean is that our simple conscious awareness is seen as "creating" all the richness of our mind, our heart, our bodies, and our universe. The entire field of diversity, of change, is seen as somehow a dual form of the underlying oneness of absolute fullness, free of objects, events, or divisions. This realization is what is meant by "self-realization", it is a field of knowledge not based on the mind or on study, but based on consciousness and validated by subjective experience and experimentation. Physics, by contrast, is based on objective experience. Right now, it is hard to see how one side of this duality affects the other side, since they share no common attributes. The physicist David Bohm spent many years considering these issues in his friendship with J. Krishnamurthi.
