In this video, I show you how you're inadvertently wearing out your wheel bearing faster. Many people typically just say "Wheel Spacers = Bad for bearings" but there's actually more to that. In this video we go into a bit of a finer detail on why you're overlanding upgrades are also causing your wheel bearings to wear down faster.

Yeah, I was eating up after market wheel bearings on my tacoma. Then I got original koyo bearings on ebay. They have lasted better than replacements.

How many have you gone through and how much miles do you have on your truck?
@daviso4954

@KFloTacoma gone through 3 and truck has 140,000 miles. Living in Vermont may have something to do with it.

What's your setup like? 35's and armor? I love wheeling in Vermont, BTW. Nice trail systems there and NH

@KFloTacoma ì am not an off-roader, the most I do off- road are gravel backroads to access fishing and hunting spots.

Wow, that's surprising to me. Is your setup mostly stock? Do you go through pretty muddy backroads?

Eating bearings like they are Sunday pancakes. Like, 9 months. Ball joints are like 12 months

More so your fronts than your rears right? You have that 1 ton axle in the back, how often have you replaced the bearings on that?

Hey I have a beloved 2004 Tacoma 2.4 man tran 5 speed that just smacked a deer. The engine has slightly dropped on one side and the motor mount appears bent. Can I use a floor jack and wood block against the oil pan to lift the engine a few inches to remove the mount? No hoist so hoping you might know a workaround. Much thanks!
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 2 месяца назад
Yes you should be able to. It would be better thought to jack it on the transmission bell housing. Check out my motor mount replacement video. You'll be able to see some of the techniques I used

@@KFloTacoma I watched the video and subscribed. Very impressive wrenching! So one last question--for a 1st gen 2.4 liter does the engine appear slightly tilted downward on the passenger side or should it look level, like the radiator for example?

So if we, WE, created a spindle with an extended hub portion to place the bearing centerwise to the wheel we would get better life?
@KFloTacoma
@KFloTacoma 4 месяца назад
Yea, technically I think that's correct. The only limitation is the center bore on the stock size hubs are so small - so the bearing would be so small too (which would be worn down pretty quick too). I'm doing a knuckle rebuild on my 80 series and the center bore on that is much bigger and those bearings (there are two parallel ones per tire) are further apart. The outside wheel bearing is almost to the face of the wheel.

@@KFloTacoma likely bigger bearings is the only fix unfortunately

Agreed plus get rid of all the ball joint and wheel bearing high maintenance issue by going SAS
