We've got a good one this week! We're back at the Chicago Blackhawks Convention this week with the NHL Legend , Stu Grimson. It was a great time catching up with Stu to talk a little about the Blackhawks and how fighting has changed throughout the years. We also get into what it is like going into your first ever fight after being called up to the NHL.

Grimson is a pretty cool cat. My first memory of him was going nuts against Toronto in the early 90's so I thought he was just a lunatic. I was surprised when I saw how soft spoken and laid back he is.

This is great insight into the thought process and game of the enforcer. Thanks for posting!

This dude beat up so many of my favourite players back in the day, lol. Despite that I always respected him as being one of the best enforcers I ever saw play. Very well-spoken and intelligent guy too.

Amazing how intelligent and well spoken Grimson is considering how he was an old school tough as nails top heavy weight fighter.

Hull and Gretzy both said that without enforcers they would have been killed on the ice. And both put up ridiculous amounts of points you rarely even see today.

Two of my all time favorites. I partly modeled my game after Stu. I used to program my vcr to get video of the replays on games when he fought. Now we have RU-vid to see them all, and I don't get to drop the mitts any more (not sure I miss it)! I really enjoyed this interview, great job John and Stu.

4:10 oh shit, that's a blast from the past, Rocky Thompson. No kidding, watched him fight 5 times in a single AHL game back in the day, 3 times against Gerry Flemming who was a big lad. Stu is such a nice guy on top of being one of the best enforcers to ever lace up.

I wasn't that impressed with Grimson (other than his size) when he first came to the Blackhawks but he was a guy who just got better as a technical fighter and on-ice policeman as he got into his late 20s and early-mid 30s. He really developed his craft.

I actually played some adult summer league games with Stu Grimson in SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH when I was a 17 year old Goalie!!! Literally, no shit! He played for the Salt Lake Golden Eagles in the IHL, look it up!!! My coaches when I was on the bantam travel team called team Utah were Paul Skidmore, and Gary Burns both of them were IHL veterans (they retired in Salt Lake and both coached youth hockey) and I'm pretty sure they both played significant amounts in the "show" THE NHL!!!

Who doesn't love Grimson? It's hilarious when I think about him in a courtroom as a lawyer, then I remember that time he absolutely lost his shit on the ice and skated around attacking everyone 😂😂😂

From the looks of you John, I never would've guessed you were a hockey enforcer!!!!!! OR THAT YOU WERE SO HUGE!!!!! 6'8"!!!!!!! THAT'S ALMOST AS TALL ZDENO CHARA, THE TALLEST PLAYER EVER IN THE NHL!!!!!!!

Would have loved to have seen Scott play in the 1980s or 1990s. I think he would have done well, even though I'm not sure he has enough of a mean streak. He's just too nice a guy (which is a good thing!)

Probie hated how his fighting ability took away from his time in the offensive zone trying to help his team, but took on the enforcer roll for his team nonetheless. Great interview John.

In Chicago, it got to the point where he didn't even care anymore about fighting!!!!! Young enforcers would be in their fighting stances, all jumpy, scared of possibly getting hurt, and Probes would be laughing at them and wanting them to make a move so they could get it over with!!!!

He asked if Grimson likes the NHL now more than back when he played and as a fan I have to disagree. I would much rather have an intense chippy game were you can feel the emotion over an emotionless 3-2 game which is what the NHL seems like nowadays.

Even the mighty Nick Fotiu admitted he was scared out of his mind at times. Terriy O'Reiley, George Laraque said the same. Jay Miller said he was such a crazy aggressive fighter because he was scared.
