Every time I use this quilt pattern (5 times now), I pray for Melanie’s family, Thank you for leaving her sweet face, voice, and instructions for others to enjoy!
3 quilts in and I'm still using these videos to brush up on things - only found Melanie after she got sick again and just now seeing that she passed while I'm working on my one year old daughter's first quilt. Rest in Peace Melanie, thank you for helping me create beautiful heirlooms for my family. I hope your family is well and finding some peace for themselves
Thank you for your "easy to follow" videos. With the coronavirus, I have time to work on my first of hopefully many quilts. I want to make special ones for my grandchildren and give to others who need to be encouraged during these days. Again, thank you.
Robin Fields Thank You for the great easy to follow binding video! I will definitely watch all of your videos! I just found you today so well done, easy to see each step great tips!
Ok started watching this 2 weeks ago. Went step by step. Did exactly what she said to do, and low and behold I made a dang quilt. I cannot believe it. The videos are perfect. She explains it perfectly. Just follow directions and take your time and then get ready. It’s like winning the lottery. When friends and family start finding out your making a quilt they all want something.
I loved your video!! It helped me a LOT! I'm making 2 baby quilts for baby twins and I was having a hard time figuring out how to get the binding done well and when I was scrolling down here in youtube I found your channel! Thank you so much! ♥️
Awesome series!! I'm going to think big here (for as soon as I finish my 1st small quilt)...if you were doing a bed quilt for a queen/king size bed, would you follow same procedure? And if so, are there a certain number of the "squares" that you would use? Thank you so much!!
Thanks you so much for Making utube videos on how to make quilt once I find your videos I subscribe to your channel and very proud to say I'm going to do my first attempts on a blanket soon hopefully mine turns out nice like yours :-) need to get thing to make it
Melanie I just want to know when I see most quilt they have a so many sales of stitches all over the quilt. What is these stitches called and how to do it.
I just finished my first quilt (Halloween themed) and it only took 7 days from start to finish. I literally had zero quilting knowledge before this video and hadn’t used a sewing machine in 10+ years. This tutorial can teach anyone to make a beautiful quilt. I’m so impressed with this series and myself. If you’re interested in quilting I 100% recommend.
I know Melanie is no longer with us, but I’m making my first quilting project in the UK and these videos have been so very helpful. I hope her family is proud of her legacy helping so many people across the globe, even after she has passed
I can't believe Melanie has passed. I am heartbroken. Such a beautiful person. I would not have made 2 quilts for my 2 sons if it weren't for her amazing instruction and I will be forever grateful. She will live forever through what she gave to her students. Peace be with you, Robert, and sons... sharing your grief...
Thank you for making this so easy! I just finished my first quilt and it turned out beautifully. It has 99 squares (9x11) so I plan on giving it to my grandmother for her 99th birthday in November. I know that she'll love it.
I just binged all five videos. Very informative. I have always wanted to learn to quilt. Have been intimidated always. Now I wish I had learned years ago after watching your videos. I have a whole closet full of fabric and hope to use a lot to make several quilts. The one trick I loved was how you showed how to end the hand stitching of the binding. Have never seen that before. Brilliant! Thanks for all your videos.
I love these videos. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve gone back to watch over again. I’m only on my 3rd quilt and Melanie explains things so easily.
Lynda, I did as well. Some of it was like " Oh! That is how you do that!" And then some was like, " That is so simple!" I am raring to try my hand at this now :)
Ah! I loved this series. My mom just bought me a new sewing machine for Christmas and I think I'm going to make my first quilt for her birthday in May. My great grandmother taught me to hand sew when I was six, my grandmother has worked in a sewing studio her whole life and my mom sews as a hobby so I'm excited to take up something that seems to be in my blood!
Still referring to Melanie's excellent videos when I quilt - her legacy continues on and I am so appreciative the content remains. Blessings to her family!
I stumbled across these lovely videos while trying to prep myself to make a small quilt from my daughter's baby clothes. I grew up sewing with my aunt and have the best childhood memories of making crafts with her and my mom. My aunt planned on professionally quilting the clothes herself but ended up passing last October from heart problems and my mom passed in June from cancer. I'm so thankful for these videos so I'm able to carry out my wishes with Melanie's wonderful instructions and feel like I'm honoring my aunt as well. Thank you to her family for leaving them available. ❤️
Wow you were so patient! I learned to sew at a young age but am kind of starting over. I am a 53 year old male. This will be my next project. I did subscribe. I will be watching you kid. I hate hand sewing and would like to be able to bind it with the machine. Thanks again!!!
I second that! She is so patient and calm. I learned how to quilt when I was 6 years old and my mom was not patient, I quilted beside my mom until I was a teenager and then went away from it for a while and started altering my clothing into adulthood. Now that I am a mom, I want to get back into it with a sewing machine and teach my children with patience God willing. I was taught to quilt by hand with a quilting hoop but I do not have that patience right now. I have better patience with a machine and all of my children have already made potholders!!! yay for us! I have used this technique for table runners and potholders!
I feel like after watching this tutorial series I wouldn’t even necessarily need to reference it again because everything was so straightforward and well explained! Amazing job 😃
My heart breaks whilst watching knowing you’re no longer here. I’ve only known you for a few days. Being a RU-vid crafter myself and going through cancer I feel a connection with you. You’re a fantastic teacher 💖💖💖
For some reason I was intimidated by Step 2, waited until yesterday then completed 2-5 in one day. Thank you so much for your clear instructions. My tiny quilt made from mask scraps is done!
I am so grateful for the concise manner and patient demeaner that Melanie uses to teach, that I had to leave a message, that is when I learned that she is no longer with us on this earth. She surely has made a difference in the world - what an impact. RIP Melanie, and thank you for sharing your gifts! My deepest condolence to her family. Her legacy lives on in so many ways!
I’ve just finished my quilt! This will be my 6th one, and each time I have followed different peoples tips and guidance. Your videos are by far the most informative and have given the best results! I can’t wait to start another quilt! 😀 Thank you
Can you attach the binding to the back of the quilt and bring it around to the front and sew it down on the machine? I have MS and my hands don’t work very well so and sticking it would be almost impossible for me. You videos are great by the way and I really enjoy watching them. Thank you!
I'm certainly no expert and it's been awhile since I made and bound a quilt, but I think I remember sewing the binding to the back initially. Then when I folded it over to the top, I'd top stitch it in place using my machine and the corners on the top looked pretty good.
I just completed my first quilt! Thank you Melanie for the beginner's quilting series. You have been such a blessing and I dedicate this quilt to you in your memory. ❤
Hi there, thank you so much for the brilliant way you have explained quilting. I have never quilted before and after watching your 5 part beginners guide I have just completed a quilt/playmat for my friends new granddaughter. It's not absolutely precision perfect but it's beautiful. Thank you
I’ve wanted to quilt since I can remember and I just made my first quilt following this series. You made it very easy to follow. Thank you so much! Can’t wait to start my next one 😉!
I did it!! I followed all the steps and finished my very first quilt today! I machine bound my quilt (using Melanie’s tutorial on it) I’m so thrilled! I’m quarantining with my dad and he’s so proud. Thank you for these videos!!💐🌸💖
Loved all of the videos. I watched the entire series. I will be making my first quilt very soon. I feel confident that it will turn out great. Thank you!
I want to thank you so much for the My First Quilt videos, I just completed my mine, only took about a week. Although I used your machine binding method.
Thank you so much for all of your amazing content! I was just wondering what kind of presser foot you're using? I feel like I see it in a lot of sewing tutorials I've seen but I don't really know what to call it to search for it. Thank you!
I just discovered Melanie. I’m so thankful for her quilting videos. I wanted to write and thank her. She has a gift for teaching. I love her. I am so troubled that she passed away. Life is not fair. She is my hero.
Just finished making my quilt using your tutorial. It turned out beautifully and I've never made a quilt before. Thank you Melanie for a fabulous tutorial !
Your an excellent teacher! I’m a vision learner and had such a hard time simply understanding just the basics of quilting......THANK YOU! I finally get it! Blessings!
After watching Melanie's excellent videos, I have just made my first ever quilt, for my first granddaughter (due very soon). Clear, easy to follow instructions, no pressure to get it perfect, enjoyable to follow and I am so pleased with the result. Thank you Melanie
Hello. I am new in the world of quilting. I am so happy to see your fun carefully instructed tutorials. Thankyou. I am nervouse about it, but excited too.
Thank you for making these videos. I finished my first quilt yesterday . I did it all by hand since I do not yet have a sewing machine. I enjoyed making it and best of all, my baby toy poodle loves it... I made it for him. Quilting looked so complicated before I came across your videos. You're a great teacher. Thank you again.
Thank you so much for this series. I’m a nurse and my mother had sent me tons of fabric to make face masks out of at the beginning of the pandemic, but our hospital switched over to only allowing surgical masks shortly after. As a “thank you” to my mom for sending me the fabric, I made her this quilt. Now I’m pretty sure I have a new hobby!
I’ve followed your amazing tutorial and have made my daughter a beautiful quilt! I am obsessed. Thank you so much for such an awesome tutorial. I’m off to check out some more tutorials in you channel!
Just wanted to say THANK YOU! You've introduced me to quilting! I'm hooked!! I made 4 of these quilts this Christmas season! I gave them as gifts. This tutorial was great!!
Thank you for taking time to show your special techniques. I'm impressed how lovely the quilt came out, you are creative. I have not sewed a quilt in years and was an excellent refresher course. Thank you so much for sharing your video and look forward to watching your other videos. All the best to you.
Thank you so much for this series of videos. I’m finishing up my binding today and I’m really excited about my first quilt. Thinking about you and your family during your recovery. Best wishes.
I'm on this step for my first quilt, and I just wanted to thank you for posting these beginner quilt videos. I've already directed friends to your channel, and I definitely will peruse your other tutorials!
Thank you for this series!!!! Easy to follow along and I learned so much making my first quilt which turned out pretty good. I'm ready to start another.
oh my gosh! i’m so excited to start my first quilt! im 17, and i already sew a bunch, but i’ve never really had any experience with quilting. i keep pestering my mom about taking me to jo anne’s tonight! thank you so so much!!!!
Great job!! Now I have the confidence with know how and a reference to do one. You are da Bomb Bay. Wish me luck and loved the nail color. 1 Love, Peace
Just watched out of interest, had to binge all 5! So I never sewed and today because of you I am waiting my new Brother CS10S machine to arrive, I am starting to quilt. Thank you for making it look so easy and explain every step. By the way I am a 60 year old guy! Exciting.
Thank you for these videos. I have only made one quilt before with my aunt who is a professional. Now I can make a quilt for my friend new baby sister! I made it a bit smaller with a border and it's so cute.
great series, helped get tips to begin sewing after i'd cut my pieces out. I will be making my own bias binding but folding in half and then folding the edges inwards and completely machine sewing to make it much easier!
The quilt my mom made for me when I was a very little kid is still one of my most cherished possessions over 30 years later. I just finished sewing the binding on my first quilt, which will be a gift for her. I hope Melanie’s family finds some comfort knowing what a legacy she’s left with these videos.
Hey Melanie! Thank you so much for your videos. I just recently got into sewing because I originally wanted to make my own clothing for medieval festivals. (Hand sewing was the main idea. But why start with something that difficult?) So, I thought: let's start with something easy. That's how I stumbled upon your channel. I bought some fabric (oh, and a sewing machine) and just started working on it. Your explanations were so thorough that even I was able to follow and create something I'm very proud of. I'm almost done with my quilt. I sewed on the binding today. It's gonna get really interesting tomorrow when I finish it, because while the top fabric is cotton.. I went for fleece for the bottom part. And I'm afraid that's gonna be a pain. Anyway. My family already loved the result so far and it seems I'll make a couple more for them in the future. Thank you so much for your videos! They're highly inspiring! Please keep it up, Jessie
Amazing and you make it all look so simple. I have made a beautiful quilt for my grandson, although I had some help. You have inspired me to try another. Thank you. x
I just watched all 5 tutorials. You do a very detailed presentation. Both of my parents passed away within 12 days of each other in December. Dad was 96 and Mother was 95. My dad had over 100 dress shirts that I will be using to make some throws and pillows. I will also sew the pockets and button flaps in random places on the throws and pillows. I made a Dalia quilt several years ago, but was looking for something very basic and simple for these throws and pillows. The patchwork quilt is perfect and quick for what I am wanting to make. Thank you for your very thorough tutorials...you have definitely gotten me in the sewing mood!
These videos are brilliant! Thank you for making and uploading them. I think it's quite hard to find very simple basic information that gives one an idea of what steps quilting entails, without having to watch hour-long videos, or buy a book and kind of fumble your way through. I'm going to use your videos to make a quilt for my baby girl due later in the year. Thanks to you I know it's a realistic goal. :D
You rock! I have watched your videos for making my first quilt and find you very easy to follow. I am now working on my 2nd quilt and I am hooked! You're a great teacher, thank you!!
Thank you for the videos on quilting. I’m new to this and I’m going by your videos to make my mother a queen size quilt. I was wondering tho what kind of clips are those. The ones you used to clip everything together. I’d really like to get some.
