Fighting Games blew up in 2023 to say the least, and its gonna keep going strong in 2024! So in this video lets talk about whats coming up, whats getting ongoing support, and maybe a little bit of a look into the future of the genre of Fighting Games!
man 6 days without a video, that's the longest gap in videos in like 5 years lol. I get stressed when its 2 days without a video, so its been rough lol. Still in Quebec visiting family and doing the holiday thing, but videos should start picking up a bit now. I return home in a week and change and then everything will be back up to normal and we ramp up into Tekken 8 season!
I picked the best time to branch out from MMOS to fighting games. With SF6, MK1, GBR, DOA6, Tekken, KOF 15, I always have something play and something to improve on at my own pace. Please give us Virtua Fighter 6 Sega! Now is the time!
I'm so glad I got into fighting games in 2023, I'm amazed by the mechanics, the visuals, the community, everything... I used to play MK9 with my father when I was younger, but it was purely casual. Everything changed when I bought MKX from a steam sale on July, that game made me really interested to look for more. I could say that MK9 was my first experience, MKX opened my eyes, and now I'm just in love with MK1, GGST, KOFXV and, specially, SF6. I'm really hoping that this year will be special for me.
I've been playing fighting games since I was a kid, but MK9 was the game that made me take them seriously so I resonate with your story, I'm guessing your main game is MK1!
You know I'm pretty sure you've done these for like 4 years and with each proceeding Year, the less we gotta talk about Netcode Issues. Finally, we have the standard for FGs! Happy New Year, Roofle!
I felt like an old man recording this video keep bringing it up. If you only joined the fgc in the last few years you wouldn't know that ONLINE DIDN'T WORK FOR THE LAST 20 SOME YEARS and how its always hanging oer me. I can never feel safe lol
It's crazy. Remember how stressed we were? And how it felt like all the Devs were like "yeah..um...whatever." like screaming at a wall. We were there! During the great netcode wars! Brothers and sisters in arms!
My only hope for Project L currently is that we see a new build with a few more characters at EVO Japan. They already said they're gonna be there. Im just hoping Jinx and Illaoi are done for more new stuff to see.
Jumping into the middle of a replay and play it out differently is so huge. Especially as a beginner to fighting games you are asking yourself so many times "what should I have done differently" when you get absolutely stomped by someone. Well, now you can try it for yourself and find out what works.
We are in a fighting game Reniassance, and have been for some time now. 2023 was just the point where it was undeniable even to casual observers. And that's before we've gotten things like the looming Project L.
Happy new year Roofle, tbh I had only really considered the big 3 but as always you've shined a light on some sick gems! Here's looking at coreupt and Blaze strike! As a lifelong FG fan this is such a great time to be alive and absolutely eating! May the new year be good to us all! 🙏🏽
Tekken 8's definitely the one I'm gonna be focusing on this year, but once I can stabilize, I'll be happy to add GBVS:Rising to my collection. Blazing Fury and Coreupt are cool looking indie fighters, so I hope they both do well. Also I look forward to more info on Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves in the future.
Every time you put out one of these Roofle, the only thoughts I'm left with are: "Damn, I love fighting games!" Was a straight Tekken enthusiast for the longest time, and I've branched out the past year to GGST, SF and Granblue most recently, in large part due to the work you do. Happy New Year, and I can't wait to see what you put in 2024!
Very much looking forward to this year to hear more about Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves(hopefully a new trailer). Also, I hope Street Fighter 6 can try to be more frequent with it's content updates this year but we shall see.
Roof my friend, I just gotta say that I get a little hit of serotonin every time I hear you do your intro. I always say hi back to you. Best intro in the business!!
Ik its old news but KOFXV is still going strong T~T. still its finally nice to see the Golden Age of the FGC take off. Having many options to try and have fun with. Hopefully S# of KOF and a DOA6LR... maybe... hopium lol
its so good to be a fighting game fan, i know some people had their justified issues with the last generation(SFV,MK11....), but for me things has been great since i dive down head first in the genre back in 2015 and if FG's where i commodity stock i would be rich as fuck in my steam library alone, not even talking how much fun and great moments this little hobby gave to me in tha past 8/9 years. happy new year for one more amazing fighting game year!
Coreupt giving me KI vibes and the retro look of Blazing Strike hits that nostalgia button so very right. Thanks for the video as I wasn't aware of those games. Stay gorilla strong
I’m a complete beginner in the FGC, I know I’ll get destroyed at first but that’s part of the process. I’m looking forward to the new DB game, but I’ll try GBF first. Great video.
I have been looking forward to Blazing Strike since it's announcement, I really do hope it'll be out this 2024. Hoping for the best for the dev team behind Blazing Strike!
I've been a sub for awhile now and everytime I get back into fighting games I always watch your videos. I think you are one of the best content creators for anyone interested in any fighting game. I think your videos serve kind of as a "gateway" for fighting game newcomers and are great for people just learning about a fighting game they are interested in, and if that one game they are interested in hooks them, then they join the community. Also, when Project L releases definitely drop as many videos as possible on it (lots of views and channel traction) because you know every league of legends and valorant player and their momma is gonna at least try the game once. Thanks for the videos and I hope you have a good 2024 year and many more!
Was hoping to see dbfz! The game will see an influx with the rollback. Hopefully longer than just a couple weeks. I still love that game because it got me into fighting games, and let me find Rooflemonger! Im excited for 2024 FGC. We are in such a good place.
I really hope you make more Granblue content, Rooflemonger! I think a Tips and Tricks guide for whatever character you wanna do, would do wonders for the community. Especially as lots of characters are't getting coverage, and there isn't anything like your Tips and Tricks guides for anyone yet in Rising! Still, even if you won't, I'm still happy you made like 2 or 3 videos on it in general.
Tekken 8 is definitely my most anticipated game. I didn't like 7 much, but I played the demo for 8, and it was great. I might even try learning it in depth and competing in it. Rivals 2 seems interesting. I'm not the biggest fan of Melee (which Rivals is similar to, I believe), and I prefer human or human-like characters, but it would be cool to try another platform fighter for fun. (Multiversus was cool, too.) I'm looking forward to seeing how SF6 and Granblue evolve, and if the PC port is improved, I'd love to try MK1 since I've never played an NRS game. What I REALLY want is another 3D fighter. Either a new DOA, SC, VF, or even a new IP. altogether. We're going through a drought of 3D fighters, which is unfortunate. Nonetheless, 2024 is shaping up to be a great year for fighting games. I might try to get to EVO for the first time if I can.
@@TJBlack3.5 The game is good, but I'm critical of the monetization. It uses "premium currency" in the same way that SF6 does, and it's hard for me to want to play a game that does that. Plus, them waiting until a few weeks in to unveil the store was a bit scummy, IMO.
I really excited for Tekken 8. I wish the demo had a training mode cause Kazuya seems cool but I always heard the Main Characters in Tekken are incredibly hard to play because of stuff like the Electric Wind God Fist
the EWGF isn't "needed" unless you wanna get really high level, and there's exceptions with the heat system where if you have the heat up the move is always the electric version. However that is one of the calling cards of Tekken that the characters with the move are more execution heavy. There is also plenty of simple characters too!
I’ll be pretty bummed if KOF15’s support ends and we don’t get Shen Woo. We’ve got Ash, Elisabeth and Duo Lon already so leaving him out would feel weird.
I know not many people still give a damn about this game. But DNF Duel, a game I’m still very much committed to, is gonna be getting two more characters this year. Hopefully an announcement for season 2 pack as well.
put me down as excited for COTW!! i know the 3v3 format is a real deal breaker for a lot of people so i'm optimistic a 1v1 fighter from veteran SNK designers will get people on board; i just hope there's something substantial for single player offerings, since that's been a real weak point for SNK and SF6 has seriously raised the bar
I've been playing Smash for some time, but I haven't really gotten into any 2D fighters since MK9 and I didn't even play that that much... but then SF6 came out and it got me really interested in trying my hand at a traditional 2D fighter, especially a legacy title like Street Fighter, which before now I've never played a single game of. I love playing the game, even if I'm only half-ass good with one character--JP lol. Then I was loving SF6 so much that it got me wanting to branch out and try more; and it helped that all these awesome games are coming out and there's tons of other people like me just starting out; so I got into MK1 as well and I love that game too. I can play TWO characters in that game, Rain/Scorpion and Omni-Man/Frost. I got Nick All Star Brawl 2 as well, but I've also tried the Tekken 8 demo as the ONLY 3D fighter I've ever played was Soul Calibur 2 and I wasn't that great when I did play. So yeah, as someone who's just getting into fighting games and putting time and effort into learning the ins and outs of them for real for the first time, I am in fact eating GREAT right now. It gives me lots of variety between all the fighters I play so I have stuff to do in between the releases of the single players games I'm waiting for to release. (like FF7Rebirth)
I’m looking forward to Guilty Gear keeping up their thing and while Akuma is cool, I’m honestly looking past him and… Ed… and hoping they right the wrongs and announce some SF3 characters on the next DLC wave. Like Bro, it still pains me to see so many sf3 characters MIA.
I wanna play tekken8 so badly but me and the bois decided to play that new sick granblue fantasy action rpg game i hate it happens to be so close to tekken8 😭
Man everyone was always talking for years about how kof xiii needs rollback, and now it's got it and nobody's on it. Just me and like 10 Mexicans who kick my ass. Kof xiii is like baiken: everyone's absolute favorite to play, except for the "playing it" part
Excellent video! Already sent a link to my friends who like FGs. I only missed Pocket Bravery's inclusion, I'm pretty sure they will be releasing characters this year and Rooflemonger had great coverage of the game previously.
Important note about the free version of GrandBlue: You can't change the resolution or many of the graphics settings so if you're playing on a display over 720p, it's just not going to look as good.
Honestly Im banking on Project L being the best fighting game, best video game, be completely revolutionary, pay off my student loans, fix my marriage, and solve world hunger
My PlayStation 5 storage can't handle all this but I'll be making a valiant effort. Maining Tekken as Kuma. A true made Mishima but I'll be fighting in all these games.
Tekken has always been my favorite Friday game franchise and I'm so happy to see it getting all the love it deserves. The roster is kind of small and missing some key people but I stil think it's clearly got more hype than Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter 6
I'm sure this year a lot of exciting news of Project L are gonna be released. The games was announced in the Riot/Lol 10th year anniversary (Valorant, Wild Rift, Legends of Runeterra, Project F and Arcane too). In October of this year Riot/Lol will celebrate its 15th year and in November Arcane season 2 will be released (Ekko and Jinx, both confirmed on Project L are important characters on the show), a Rioter also said that 2025 will change League of Legends forever so I honestly think there will be big annoucements and an event to celebrate. I think it's possible that a demo of the game will be released for public this year with 7-8 characters
I tend to be somewhat stand-offish in the sense of usually sticking with just one game/series (that being Guilty Gear for me) and not playing the other stuff coming out, but the recent fighting game releases have been doing so well and making a splash that I feel that I'm missing out for once. I guess in the larger context, that's a great thing, but it does mean I need to start branching out and trying other stuff as well like Granblue and Street Fighter 6.
After starting playing fighting games with guilty gear strive in summer 2023 I started also buying other fighting games during sales. It gives some understanding about thing that similar in this games and ones that not. But even with all these other fighting games in collection I still sticked to ggst. This one became more close to me.
Do you think that the “Ghost A.I.” feature in Tekken 8 is really going to be a game-changer for the single-player fighting game experience? SF6 has really strong A.I., which is why I enjoy it so much despite having very little experience against human opponents.
Depends if the AI will continue to learn over time…. Currently, ghost still has dumb CPU tendencies, like losing to spam and dropping combos I think they need to incorporate a bit of old school arcade cheating, where the CPU unfairly reads moves on occasion.
@@jimdino77 Yeah, I wasn’t overly impressed by the “versus mode” A.I. when I played the demo. I was able to beat the most challenging level of A.I. within a few minutes, which was disappointing.
the ghost ai, just like arcade quest both come from Virtua Fighter 4 originally, and it was one of the biggest selling points of it at the time. The idea is to trick the casual player into wanting that more competitive experience and if they do it right like VF did, it will be a highlight of the game.
@@rooflemonger yeah, out of all the features of Tekken 8 this one takes the cake as the most interesting. I am going to be keeping tabs on it on release just to see how it measures up.
Can you please do a video where you compare Tekken 8, SF6 & MK and explain their mechanics and try to somehow give us an idea which one is harder!?? If that even can be said because at the end of the day they are just different I think and it can't be said which is harder...
I think one game people need to get into is Pocket Bravery that is a great fighting game. Where each character is a joy to play as. Its one of the more serious fighting games as well story wise. Its only steam at the moment though.
It is a great time for fighting games. If you are interested in 2D fighters I would encourage SF6, GBFV and GG. Tekken 8 is pretty much the only 3D prevalent fighter currently. Mk1 is ok, but I disagree with the cameo system relevance. There are only a few cameos that are viable. The rest are like place holders. Also, MK1's online is suspect and there is still quality of life functions that are missing from it that were found in pretty much all other 2D fighters at launch.
I'm sooo waiting for news on Ed, I want a boxer in the game and I'd like Ed to be more like Dudley gameplay-wise, at least with Classic Controls, just let him have trained under Dudley in the backstory between SF5 and SF6...
Well, one thing is for sure, he ain't gonna be his SF5 self. The current SF dev team ain't into copy pasting returning characters. Puke being the sole exception cause he already was an SF6 character. As for him being more of a boxer this time? SF6 is lacking a boxer rep, so you might get your wish.
@@mappybc6097 I hope he's nothing like he was in SFV. Gameplay-wise I didn't like him very much or his controls but his potential for SF6. His backstory got interesting at the end, he looks awesome based of the new character designs and most important, he finally fills the boxer spot and has to represent that alone, for now, so I hope he's going to be a good example. I name Dudley as a reference because I like him more than Balrog, also I would like Ed to have motion inputs like him. I hope you're right and I get my wish. ^^
@rooflemonger, is there a chance you can do a video on the state of DNF Duels? It kinda just fell off the planet but it seemed it had so much potential for a fighting game.
unfortunately, what you said is the state of DnF Duel. The game basically cratered. People say they want the off the wall crazy balance fighter, and when they get one turns out they didn't want it at all
