Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth From the film "You Were Never Lovelier" (1942) in High Definition. (original idea kiddysoulgirl99) Check out My Official RU-vid channel: / maxzusmanofficial
Me too! My mom kept a album as a young girl, with photos of her in it( admired her so much!) & I remember looking through it as a young girl, myself! I remember Rita Hayworth’s pictures in particular ( from old Photoplay magazines & similar magazines like that) because she had such a pretty smile! She was always so vivacious & beautiful, full of joy, you could see. This video reminded me so much of my mother’s long ago album( miss my mom so much!) and wish I had held onto it. You are right though for your put it perfectly! Her smile truly was “infectious!”
When Jackie Wilson sang, "...and, with my lovin' arms around you..." and Fred and Rita threw their arms around each other, I flipped out. So perfect! Wow! This dance sequence goes so well with so many upbeat numbers. It's so great to watch over and over. Sadly, that world, that talent, that entertainment is long gone. But at least it's preserved here to watch over and over and over and ...
Me too Alex. I had to sort-of keep reminding myself that it 'wasn't real', if you catch my drift. The whole thing its total class and beyond criticism.
I absolutely had no idea that Rita Hayworth was such an incredible, phenomenal dancer! She and Fred look so full of joy....Many music videos have made me happy, but this one just gets me to 7th heaven! So Happy, happy, happy....HAPPY!
It was pretty common in this golden era of movies 1930s/40s for actors to have all the skills. Joan Crawford, James Cagney, Lauren Bacall, Mickey Rooney, (obviously) Judy Garland, Donald O'Conner and our own John Mills all started as 'song and dance' people. The contract system at the studios in those days made it almost impossible to refuse to do a movie the studio told you to do so the actors had to be prepared for dramatic, comedy or musicals. Interestingly, Ginger Rogers won her Academy Award for a dramatic role, not a dance movie, so it worked both ways.
Cugat running the band, Fred and Rita dancing, Jackie singing....I have to wonder if folks really think about this history? Its almost too fabulous to not cry.
Wow !!! this video of Fred & Rita🕺dancing💃 is a trophy 🏆 award winning performance and with Jackie Wilson singing 🎤 puts the icing on the 🎂 its right on time Thank 🦋 You for the download April 2,2021
Even Fred couldn't keep up with Rita. She could out dance the master any day. That's why Fred liked dancing with her because she had heart and brought excitement to the dance floor.
It's not about the dancing. I love seeing dancers - dance to the music the DANCED TO. This is a wretched pairing of music to the dance. Good music, good dance LOUSY matching. That's why we dislike this.
@@FlaschDJ I didn't mean to imply that ALL others would dislike it. Just the ones that have a sense of rhythm (to see that many of these dancers are totally out of sync with the music because it's not the music they were dancing to) or the ones that have any appreciation for how much better music used to be than the drek they played for this video.
We all know that Fred Astaire is one of the greatest dancers ever, but the bewwwtiful Rita Hayworth has to be considered as one of the greats right up there as well. Oh those moves!
Back when you absolutely had to have talent. You could not fake it or get by on choreography. Real talent bridges the gap of decades. Perfect matching of music - good job Roman Bellic!
I literally couldn't believe this piece of choreography. Out of this world comes to mind. I couldn't stop watching Rita as she commands this dance so effortlessly. Fred was brilliant too but somehow she eclipsed him accidentally. Such natural and polished talent. Goosebumps.
Agreed. Rita 'turned pro' as a dancer at age 3. Originally she danced in clubs with her dad. My eye is drawn to Rita esp. But Rita & Fred are so great together. Fred confided quietly Rita was his favorite skilled partner.
Later in life, he told a reporter that Rita Hayworth was his favorite movie dance partner, despite the ongoing linking of Astaire and Ginger Rogers in the public mind.
Oh really the great Astaire was brilliant too> how generous of you. She din't eclipse him, the female or a child always gets the most attention. Fred din't need it.
I absolutely love this. I love watching the older stars. Fred Astaire , Gene Kelly, Ginger Roger's and Rita Hayworth to name a few. Beautiful people and so gifted! ❤
This is absolutely one of the BEST videos my 60 year old self has ever seen! Great singer, great song, great dance talent. All over the span of decades. Awesome!!
Man; they could sing and dance back then! Fast forward to today...I wonder how many millions of people have even heard of "tap dancing"...so out of touch! I was born in the 50's and I lived through the greatest era of music - melodies, harmonies and just tons of talent! I don't think you can beat the 50's, 60's and 70's for what I refer to as "Real Music". I met a woman awhile ago, by the name of Diana and she invited me to her birthday party, which was today. I took my guitar with me and played "Diana" for her. In return, I received a big hug! Yesterday, I had my alto sax down at the beach and apparently, many people enjoyed it (I still consider myself to be a beginner). The point is; I'm doing my best to keep the music alive. I'm just an old guy, doing what I love and if it makes other people feel good - that's a bonus!
@@hollywood5703 This dance routine came out in 1942. Jackie Wilson's "Higher and Higher" came out in 1967. The trick is putting the music and dance routine together.
For those who don’t understand the magic of Fred Astaire, how talented he was, just know that he choreographed this dance two DECADES before the music was even written
You know that opinions are like a certain body part - everyone has one. In this case though you have to be in a very dire mood not to appreciate the total quality of this video.
Pure class. As much as it could be said that Rita matched Fred toe to toe, so did Ginger Rogers, many times backwards and in heels. You don't see this standard today.
If you don't think they do this today, you are looking in the wrong places! But remember - this is show dancing. Not something you can do on a crowded dance floor.
Oh Fred and Rita. So wonderful. I feel so sorry for kids now a days. Never knew the glitz and glam of great musicales. The songs and the dancing. Thanks mom for letting me skip my nap at 5 to watch these with you.
Hey I am 42 & one day several years ago flipping through TCM I stumbled on to 'The Philadelphia Story' and my love of Cary Grant, and the Love scene of Jimmy Stewart telling Katherine Hepburn everything that was EXACTLY RIGHT about her - had me HOOKED. I collected every movie on all three I could get my hands on and haven't stopped. In the process I found a HUGE LOVE of vintage film. I share the hopeless romance ones with my nieces of 11 & 8. They LOVE THEM. We go see the good ones when they play on oldies day at our local movie theater. My mom has passed now but I remember her telling me about Cary Grant & Rock Hudson. I wish she were still here to join us on Fridays!
It's just too bad that the late great Jackie Wilson got screwed out of all his money. The man lost everything when he died he was penny less he got none of the royalties for his songs
Credit and gratitude to the person who had the idea and skill for putting the music with the dancing. Normally I would not have watched but this was at another level entirely.
Anyone could dance with Fred Astaire and not look ridiculous because the man knew how to make his partners shine. He didn't have to do that with Rita Hayworth because she was a fabulous dancer. Wonderful video!! In an interview Rita once said that men would go to bed with Gilda but wake up with Rita. I can't imagine that being a negative.
Many years back, Fred was asked to entertain the old "favorite partner ever" chestnut. A showdown was expected between warhorse Ginger and leggy lovely Cyd. But instead of either, he picked Rita. They didn't keep asking that question too much after that.
I'd challenge anyone to watch this video only once. Second challenge ... watch it, and then resist the urge to watch it again and again and again in the same YT session. A glorious video featuring glorious dancers and a glorious musician. Many thanks for this!
I love the greasy rotund Argentinian leading the band with nearly imperceptible hand movements - takes the cake. According to Hollywood folklore, a screen test report on Astaire for RKO Radio Pictures, now lost along with the test, is reported to have read: "Can't sing. Can't act. Balding. Can dance a little." I knew that Fred's name was a fiction and I'd assumed that was because of an overtly Jewish name But such was not the case. Astaire of course - sounds like - to the stars. He was of German /Lutheran extraction mainly. Oh, and I think he can dance. TE. Fidler NzL
The late great Jackie Wilson song (Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher)Makes this dance scene with the beautiful Rita Hayworth and the handsome Fred Astaire a fantastic must watch.
FANTASTIC!!! Thank you, Roman Bellic, for sharing this wonderful video. Fred and Rita look like they are having so much fun dancing effortlessly to Jackie Wilson's uplifting song. I smiled throughout the entire video. PEACE to ALL ... and STAY SAFE and HEALTHY.
