I've often thought that it would be nice not only to put my name in my creations, but the year I made it. Seeing how my skills and style progress through the years would be interesting! People date their quilts and their paintings. I think we should date our clothes.
No joke, I am just starting out with a business, haven't even built a website yet and I thought have my own labels was something I would have to wait years for... This video is actually helping my lifelong dream come true
UPDATE.... The discount is working now :) ' evelywood15 ' ---- So, what do you think about clothing labels for the home sewer?? Use them already? Or want to start using them to personalize your makes? And let me know if you're going to get your own made too!
My grandmother labelled the clothing she designed and sold to children's specialty shops after WWII. She sewed beautifully and drafted her own patterns..remarkable for a woman with limited reading and writing skills. Later she designed and made quilts. She was a true artist.
I know, alot of people don't realize this IS something you can do for your home sewing! And something really nice to add to your garments to finish them off! Just for you!
I love the short film in black and white which introduces your videos, I find it very vintage and elegant, and I think that your label suits it perfectly ! Your choice is perfect for the style of the letters, the colour of the fabric (which is not too white) and the little needle with the thread. This label is a beautiful representation of your style
I only sew for myself and my family, but I've used labels for years. Like you said, it's like signing your artwork. I still have quite a few from the last time I ordered, but the company I used had limited options. When my current supply runs out, I will definitely check out the Dutch labels. I really liked the customization options. Thanks for sharing this information!
Hello Evelyn, I am 65 years old, and I've been sewing since was 10. I make the majority of my clothes and do put my label in them. I don't care for the label that I have been using. I want to thank you for your video, I will try the Dutch Label Shop, I sure they will be able to help me. I am so glad I found you, I really enjoy watching.
Just wanted to let everyone know 4yrs later the code still works. I sign my Sumi-e paintings and now that I am back to sewing and learning to quilt I ordered some labels 5o sign these works of art too. It was super Easy and wow soo Affordable she isnt kidding I was shocked at the price.
You are an inspiration! I am not designing my own clothing YET, but I am going to be a new grandma in Sept.2022 and I would like to put custom labels in the clothing that I'm making for my granddaughter. I have purchased labels but none of them seem to be of this quality. My son and daughter-in-law live in Japan so it's even more important to me to let them and my granddaughter know how much love is going into the things I make for her. Thank you for this video and for giving me a way to do this!
I definitely want labels and you just answered my next quest item for my handmade items including my crochet and knitted pieces. Love this and all your videos. You're really helpful, encouraging, and wonderfully inspiring. Keep up the great work!
I have made my own little labels hand embroidered on little squares of muslin. You are right that it is a proud feeling to sew them into our creations.
I think you are right that you should put your label in your reworks. I have just barely started sewing but have been watching these and taking it all in to help. But even I think it would be cool to eventually put my own label in things. Even what I’m trying to make for myself. Just to be able to show like this wasn’t just some craft tossed together this was a real piece of work put together and I worked hard on it and am proud to say I made that and didn’t just buy it.
As a Dutch "girl" I like that you are recommending a cool young Dutch label company. And I love what they have on offer. But personally I really dislike the feeling of labels (anywhere) in all of my clothing🤦🏼♀️. The first thing I have always done is: cutting labels out of the all clothing that I buy. (Like you do with those irritating 2 little strings in the neckline of clothing✊🏻). So logically I don't put labels in the clothing that I make or refashion. And sadly 🙁 would never use those beautiful "personalized" labels. Even though I would love to. Greetings👋🏻 from The Netherlands🇳🇱
Good evening Evelyn, I have been watching you for a while and subscribe to your website. I love your website and enjoy watching your transformations. It has started me to think of doing the same for myself. Unfortunately at the moment I am unable to do anything yet as I am waiting for hip surgery. I have not done any sewing for the past three years so I love to watch others doing machine sewing, hand sewing, shopping for fabrics and changing clothes from what it is to something new. I look forward to the day I will be strong enough to start sewing again and just last night I was looking at labels to put in my clothes and I found the Dutch label company that you were talking about in this video. I liked the look of the labels and was thinking of getting some for my clothes. I will definitely be buying my labels from this company and I will be using your discount code. So thank you for your recommendation. I have not seen all of your videos but enjoy each one I find. Thank you.
Checkout Etsy too. Evelyn was quick to discredit printed labels, but they're not all bad. I use Graphic Fabrics (formerly TinyGamer) on Etsy, she's awesome to work with.
I got so excited after seeing this video! It's such a fun idea to make labels, it feels so professional. I'm planning on ordering some for myself tomorrow!
Just a note to say I was inspired by this video. Although I am a newbie sewer I enjoy your videos. You are a great instructor and I have learned much. I also decided to order some custom labels from Dutch Label Shop for my sewing and knitting projects. Glad I found you.
YAY!! I've been looking for a good place for labels. You are awesome.!! Long ago I had printed ones my Mother had made for me. I need them now for crafted and UpCycled products as long as with clothing and Upcycles there as well. This is Awesome.
You have hit a great idea, I used to have some iron on labels, it was the only affordable ones at the time, but to get woven ones would be so much nicer and no more scratches on the neck. Thank you so much for sharing Evelyn.
I am a new subscriber- love your channel! Lots of inspiration here thank you. Just purchased labels and I’m so excited to receive them and “sign” my work from now on
Oh, I can relate to the effort and time invested. I have thought about it even for the toiles I've been making at your school. For some reason, without a label a garment looks homemade. Besides, it's good to recognize our good work and it's value. I liked this subject. It brought to my attention the legal aspects of labels as well. Thanks for sharing it.
I am a new subscriber and simply adore your style. Second, you are a Godsend. I have been looking for a label company for a while now to print the woven labels I use since the company I purchased my labels from went out of business. I too love the look and feel of women labels. There is nothing like telling someone you made a garment you are wearing and the label gives it that unique touch. Thanks you so much for this!
They are so beautiful! I use printed custom labels because I'm in the US and kids items require a lot of legal wording, but I would love to try woven labels for branding!
I don't intend to sell any of my refashioned or made from scratch clothes but I was fancying getting some labels. I trust your recommendation so will definitely try these labels. The woven sew in labels are great for labeling children's school clothes - much better than iron on, I remember Mum getting a batch from a UK supplier who did small orders for all my uniform years ago & they all stayed in when none of my friends labels did.
Fiona I have been so happy with the product and service, I know you will be too! Yes even labeling the school clothes!! You will love having that personalization on your garments for sure! If you have questions just ask!
I’m not in a sewing biz, but I love the idea of nice woven labels. Is it silly to get labels if I just make clothing for myself? Or is it silly to use labels on home dec and other stuff that I give away (like in an inconspicuous place)? // As always, such a pleasure to hear from you and your topics are so relevant and you make them so interesting. Thank you. I know how long these videos take to produce and I enjoy them so!
I’ve thought about getting labels made like this for a long time but I have never actually done it. After watching your video I went ahead and placed an order. Thanks for turning me onto the dutch label shop, and the discount code. Cheers!
Wow. I just played around with the site. It's awesome. I was making tags and showing my husband. Haha. Thank you so much for this video evelyn. I learn so much from you.
thank you!!! How did you know I was looking for a label company!! LOL!!! I need labels and will be checking these out. I like how simple they make it and that there is an image as you chose your option. Thanks again!!!
Hi Evelyn: I really love the idea of sewing in your own label, it feels so much more personalized. In the past, I’ve used some generic ones I found that had phrase like “sewn by Mary”. So nowadays, they seem more affordable. I will check them out! I
Thank you so much for this! I have some printed taffeta labels that I've never really liked much - and now that I'm selling items that need to have the label on the front, I was looking for a company to do some woven ones. This is perfect!
If it's a clothing bussiness you must!! You will need fab logo labels, and all the others! Make sure you look up what the legal requirements are in your country as to garment labeling so you have all the right things!
I'd be proud to put them in my refashions, but I'm a tag hater--I cut them all out of everything!! My husband and I were just talking about labeling our Nutcracker ballet costumes the day this video came out! I might use this company because we need to distinguish between our costumes, and those that are borrowed. Thanks!
Hey Evelyn, How exciting! I just ordered some beautiful tags for my dressmaking business using your code :) Thank you for sharing your tips and stories xx
I use Wunderlabel. My dogs have there own iron on labels for my dog accessories. I also use the sew on for my tshirt/accessories brand and quilts. There's also options on Etsy. I will definitely give Dutch label a try.
I learned about the Dutch Label Co. through the sewing community and I decided to get a few just for fun to stitch on the outside of my handmade garments. I am a graphic designer but I just went with a simple white font on black on a simple flat label and I love them. They arrived very quickly and look beautiful. I put them on the outside of my garment because I am uber sensitive and can't handle any labels, not matter how lovely, as I will itch. I think they look great on the outside of the garment and the way I position them they are not overly obvious but still there, letting people know I make my own clothes! I do have a business as well and will be designing my own labels so that I can attach them to products I make. I make homewares at this stage but will be making garments from my own designs in the future.
Wonderful!! I love you sew them on the outside! My mum made me sew my label on tge outside of a bag I made her! Im excited for your business expansion!!
I actually just made my labels today! I made mine on spoonflower since their factory is pretty near by. But when I go through my 80, I’ll have to check out the Dutch Label Shop.
You know, I had never even thought of this, but I make quilts as well as clothing. I could use them for both. Thanks for the video, Evelyn! I'll check out that site and mention that you sent me their direction!
Wow, talk about good timing...this is EXACTLY what I went looking for tonight because I'm starting a vintage knitwear business :) thank you SOO much Evelyn for the recommendation and thank you for the discount!! happy you will get your commission :) Have been looking for a company to do this for me and didn't quite find what I wanted on Etsy but this looks perfect. Now I just have to get my custom design done and chose the labels. Close friend is an artist so she will have that design job :D
PERFECT!!!!! I've been so happy with my labels and the service from them, I know you will be too! Now to design your fun logo!! If you have questions let me know, and tag me on IG when you get them so I can see!!
Yes! I already got my labels from the DLS. So funny: they are Dutch entrepreneurs, working from the US. I am from the Netherlands, actually and the name just hit me. Because I make custom made clothes ánd special dance clothes I even have two different labels: one in Dutch for the ‘normal’ clothes I make and one in Spanish for the flamenco clothes 💃🏻and I am very happy with them. They are starting to run out, so I think I will use your discount code to order more!😊
Evelyn Wood yes I ordered black labels with red metal thread, one with my own name and the other with the Spanish alias I have on my instagram. Both topped of with a styled rose 🌹. I got quite a lot of compliments about them
Thanks SO MUCH for this recommendation. I've been meaning to look into fabric tags on the occasions where they'd come in handy with my hats - my men's and men's style hats have leather sweatbands with my logo stamped in foil, but occasionally a fabric label would come in handy, especially when I dabble in more traditional women's vintage styles. Is there an expiration for the discount code?
Evelyn Wood I meant to clarify I knit but will sew in the labels. I moved to 1840s historic tourist town and am opening a shop. Am developing some sewn or made items such as bonnets and corsets. Not sure what to do about kits we are hoping to create. I personally am learning to sew vintage on my 1949 Singer 221 Featherweight sewing machine. I have mentioned that before for you to try out.
Thanks for all the information! I agree with you that tags can add a vintage touch to a garment. I am always checking the tags at thrift stores, and I just resewed the tag into a vintage coat I have. I like the idea of clothing tags and matching swing tags (now know they have a specific name!) but that will be a bit down the road for me. Your tags are lovely and match the intro you used to put on your videos . . .or is that intro only for the refashion videos?
Great vid and informative. Look forward to checking out the dutch label shop. Question; why folded edges at all? I get it for the narrow labels that allow garment to be hung on a hook but why folded edges on say, the larger rectangular ones? Is there a practical/construction reason? Or personal preference? Thanks Evelyn ;)
Your right! The edge does look slightly different being folded, as oppose to the ends being woven finished, perhaps slightly smoother on the skin with folds and just more old fashioned looking! But I think easier and more multi purpose for most people with no folds!
Beautiful video as always. Where I come from people snip off labels and resell the garments at higher prices. So I am thinking of stamping my logo with permanent fabric ink. Hope it works
Thank you so much for making this video! It's absolutely perfect timing, I'm getting everything together to sell hats online. Would you recommend anything different for in accessories like that vs in clothing? I'd probably want to have the label in the sweat band or in the crown somewhere, but I'm just starting out and I don't really know if there's a better way!
Oh. I loved this idea, I suddenly need these labels 🤓, can you write the name of the Dutch firm again, I obviously missed that🙄Thank you Evelyn for your videos 💕
I am very thankful you made this video. You covered so many issues on this product. I hope to buy two kinds but I am seriously hoping they are not scratchy on the corners as vintage sew in home sewing labels were. Would you care to comment on this?
I think they are soft, but I don't really sensitive skin. They do send a free sample 😀 so I reccomend ordering one, sew it in something and test it out!!
Hi Evelyn, Great video! I just tried to use the code for your video on the Dutch Label Shop site but they say the code is invalid. Is there a code? Thank you for your help.
Thanks Heather. Yes there seems to be technical issue with the website... they are working in it right now! I'll post any updates to the discount here, and we will get it active for you shortly! Thankyou for your patience! 😚
Ironic! I just ordered "iron on" labels for my bags, aprons & bibs I am making. I am on a tight budget, so I had to go for 100 labels on Amazon for $15.00. Thanks, Evelyn!!
I keep forgetting to put my labels in my bags. I used to handmake the labels and put the date it was finished. Then I ordered the labels and I don't like them very much. If I had an embroidery machine I would definitely make my own.
Love the labels BUT most of them are hitching me like crazy! Even on signature pieces I have to take them out! I wonder if those one are ok... please let me know. Thank you!
I find them soft, but I know what you mean about those itchy ones and I don't have sensitive skin. They offer free samples im sure, so I would get one, sew it onto something as you normally would and 'road test' for a day and see how you find it!
Yes need help how to get my label brand, I tried many places but didn't get what I want, pls send me your information needed some, thanks sharing appreciate its.
hi Evelyn, I'm interested, but I find most garment tags are scratchy and irritate my neck and I end up cutting them off. Are these labels made of a softer fabric than most clothing labels?
kaz coll maybe you should sew your labels into the side seam instead. Be quirky and sew your ‘handmade with love by me’ label into the hem of skirts and dresses. Think outside the box. 😘
@@JulieWallis1963 hi Julie thanks for your suggestion. I mostly buy cheap clothes with (cheap) labels sewn in and they are rough! I'd happily sew softer ones into my homemade clothing though :)
I think they are soft, but I know what you mean about the scratchyness sometimes! I'm actually sure that I read on their website they will send you a sample! Perhaps get just one, sew it onto something and 'test drive' to see if it irritates you! If they don't send you one I have lots I can spare! Just email me!
@@Evelyn__Wood thanks so much Evelyn! I will indeed organise to 'test drive' a sample and f they are not able to send me one, I will take you up on your kind offer :)
