I'm a nurse and didn't recognise my menopausal symptoms until watching your programme, then it was a light bulb moment. I was having anxiety symptoms with panic attacks, lost my confidence, felt low, didn't like myself and really unhappy, but had no reason to be unhappy!!! Started HRT patches after watching your programme, feel so much better, calmer and got my sparkle back again. Fantastic programme.

I’m 47 and looking back my symptoms over the last year were peri menopause. Eventually after watching you and Louise newson a light bulb clicked on in my head. I’d also started hot flushes. So I went to my doctors and said my heart palpitations lack of sleep, anxiety, night sweats and feeling depressed was peri menopause and I want HRT. She said that she had put that on my notes!! But not told me. I’d had ECGs, urine test and blood work done and was told I was fine. Thankfully the HRT has worked on all my symptoms and I’m like a new woman. X

Great job for talking openly about this subject. I'm sure I've lost two good women through, non diagnosis and just sheer ignorance. Please encourage ladies to speak with their doctors and don't be embarrassed, we only have one life. Again, thank you for your input. xx

I'm a 58 yr old bloke - My wife started Menopause about 10-12 yrs ago. She went on HRT tablet's about 6 yrs ago..made her itch like crazy but really sorted her mood swing's out and even rekindled some of our old love life. Did not last long as she came off them and has been struggling ever since. She is unrecognizable to the girl I married. Tell's me she has finished Menopause now. I don't see any difference . Not had time of day for me or us for year's. Rip's my head off if I mention the subject. Not been near her physically for 18 month's since she told me she feel's nothing now and does not care if ever has sex again. I love her ..must do ..we have couple of teenage lad's and she only seems to have time for them. I want my old wife back, she won't even come for a walk any more. Feel we are at a crossroad, just not sure which turn to take. It there anything I can do to help ?.. I'm just a dumb bloke trying to get my head round all this. Thanks for listening.

I can see how you are stuck it must be so hard for you as well. I’m not really in a place to offer advice other than for your marriage to survive she can’t keep biting your head off and refusing to talk(I know how hard it may be for her and that she probably doesn’t have control of her reactions. I hated my partner for a year or so in every way but was lucky in that it passed). You need someone trained in menopause symptoms and couple counselling ( I know not easy to find) but she has to be on board as well,you may have to accept that she may have accepted her changes and doesn’t want to be any different at this point.Like I say I am no expert and just wanted to offer an opinion and some support. Wishing you all the best and remember to look after you as well.

I've been on hrt for 7 years after a full hysterectomy, I'm now 51. I've since had to pester for a referral to Birmingham women's hospital to a proper menopause clinic and menopause educated drs. Libido died with hysterectomy. Last week I've now started on testerone gel too. It's not licensed for women unbelievably. Oestrogen gel, internal pessaries, Testo gel. All absolutely essential for my wellbeing! Don't give up asking, your life depends on it ladies

Davina thank you so much for sharing these videos. I am 43 and have started with forgetfulness and reduced memory and I had started to worry I had early onset dementia. After watching all of your videos and your documentary and learning about other peri-menopause symptoms I am now convinced that this is the cause of my brain fog and my fluctuating emotions, headaches, change in skin condition and lack of sex drive. Please can you talk more about peri-menopause, the symptoms and how to cope and how to know when it has got to the point where you need to ask for HRT.

I have 100mg tablets on a night and testoraorne patches of 50mg Monday patch on top of bum then change Thursday. Went on a really bad dip last week and a bit of brain fog, my doctor has upped my testosterone up to 75mg . Good luck, hope it changes your life. A friend told me to read your book as I am going through the peri menopause with just about every symptom there is. I was skeptical at first. My mother refused all HRT as it would give her cancer blah blah, but I was adamant I would take HRT and thought your book would be all about not taking it and drinking green gloop from a blender instead. It was really refreshing to read someone talking facts and science. I start my patches soon. Wish me luck.

Woooow. I would totally watch menopausal Street mate!!!! Thank you so much for normalising this. Just started HRT 4 months ago after symptoms of brain fog, unable to string a sentence together, crying a faur amount and waking up at 3am for no reason. First day of taking HRT I felt as though I'd necked a glass of wine and after about a week I had a massive surge in energy and decluttered my entire house!!!!

I think more info on peri menopause would be great. I’m 41 and beginning to experience fluctuating periods and other minor symptoms. When you speak to dr. I’ve been going the doctors for the same things for about 5 years. Fatigue, painful muscles and joints, mood swings. Crying at nothing!!!! I get asked if I’m still having periods which I am and my age then get sent for a blood test and nothing else happens. It makes me so mad and I hate going to the doctor now because I just feel like I’m wasting their time, it also makes me feel like I’m going mad. I’ve only found out about the peri menopause in the last 6 months but I think that is what I’m experiencing

@Embeth82
@Embeth82 Год назад
Street mate - bloody loved that show where I first heard of you. Also, watching your interview on CEO was awesome. I'm forty and feel I've been going through peri for about 2 years, hot flushes and night sweats, especially if I eat junk food, which let's face it everyone does to make themselves feel better when they feel like crap. I used to get night sweats and hot flushes when I started with fibromyalgia and then about 10 years in with that they went away when I started taking medication and then they came back after I started to notice I'd gone from laid-back to really irritated and snappy and everything and just so friggin inpatient I definitely was aware of like what I would call a personality shift. Braig fog omg I had that with Fibro where I couldn't remember words and I lose my train of thought literally mid-sentence when I've been speaking for a while (for example in interviews that was always fun) but now I have this weird thing like I was watching your documentary and I've always had difficulty with mental math and math in general but when you say the stats my brain does this thing where I have to reprocess the sentence to take it in and I literally cannot recall the numbers you just said this happens all the time - so weird. I came off the mini pill to see what my periods were up to once they then came back 3 days long bleeding and then went back on the mini pill and then came off it in September last year at the request of the doctor because he said we can't tell what your hormones are doing if you are on them and he said to come back and see me in November (and by see him he meant to make a phone appointment) but I decided to leave it and I left it until June because I didn't want him coming back and saying well it has only been 3 months I wanted to make sure there was a change there and sure enough they now last a day and no cramps whereas what was normal for me was 5 days of bleeding 3 days extremely heavy and pain. lots of pain. Biggest bugbear of my life now - the good old vaginal dryness, along with urethral dryness - woo hoo! I'm having to resort to Amazon for a non-hormonal cream to get relief. The doctor did prescribe me some once because he said the one that I was using was no good. The one he prescribed didn't even come with an applicator, I mean I ask you. It was I have basically had to fight with my doctors to get them to listen I was shamed by a nurse at my surgery for being overweight but I have autism, fibromyalgia, depression and anxiety, and osteoarthritis in my spine as well as starting to get it in my thumb and elbow and feel like healthy eating is not always my top priority. So I now refused to see that nurse ever again, and have asked to be referred to a specialist and said well we can't refer without blood tests well I've had them prior years ago and they always come back normal and this was the thing this nurse supposedly a menopause specialist said that well you can't be menopausal cos your hormones are normal and I just thought Jesus I know more than you do ugh! btw the same nurse who put a very small blood pressure cuff on me before this I bet she knew full well it would stay on which it did and she ended up using the larger one right next to it, so friggin annoyed. Anyway I'm playing their game I will get blood tests but I'm gonna keep on at them until they do something. Cos I've had abnormal bloods come back for prolactin cos I was stressed one time (no wonder) and they don't even phone you to let you know they're back and why they're abnormal, but you can see it is on the app, and I know there overrun and whatever and you can't even get an appointment in the surgery but they're not even apologetic about it, it's like you're bothering them. Really sorry rant over. P.S got your book too and it's so reassuring because it's affirming a lot of the research I've done into this so reassuring to have that because you do start to question yourself and there was one point where I was pretty much well I'm gonna let happen whatever happens and somehow no idea how I've managed to change that round and not let people bully me. Oh, and I'm 3 years into a part-time Open university degree while all this madness is going on. Sorry never written a comment as long as this but had to just get this out.

Came across your wonderful video today!!. Totally agree that women need to start talking about menopause ( ALL symptoms, not just mood swings & hot flushes). We need to be educating our daughters & younger women. At 50 I asked my GP if I should consider HRT? (My logic was that there MUST be health benefits to topping up depleted hormone levels, such as reducing osteoporosis etc as you have mentioned...... & that logic was well before I experienced 1. vaginally atrophy 2. Physical Inability to have sex (as we get shorter & narrower & dryer inside) & splitting of skin when trying 3. Tearing/splitting of skin when wiping privates after going to the loo due to thinning skin. Doctors offer very little help or advice & that blood test to check hormone levels are a waste of time as I'm now 59. Glad that you have stated that oestrogen pessaries are fantastic. Unfortunately they havent worked as much for me as I had hoped. I am still reading voraciously to understand/educate myself & have opened the conversation with girlfriends (some who have timidly admitted to having similar issues "down below"). Thank you for opening/continuing the conversation

It’s so refreshing to hear you talk about this, I’m living in a foreign country ( I’m British) where I struggle with the language and sadly my health insurance doesn’t cover ‘special’ medications without me paying considerably more per month which I cannot afford, I’m 51 now and have been going through peri menopause for 7 years, it’s been an exhausting journey but I think slowly things are settling down. How I would have loved this channel 7 years ago!

We need your documentaries across the pond. Britain rocks for menopause awareness! I am 62 and had to fight and scratch to finally get on an itty-bitty skin patch dose. And in 6 weeks I feel so much better. No way will I go off. I have to go out-of-network to get them for now, but I'm hoping I can find an in-network Dr to take over management. We'll see.

It's about time the menopause is been talked about. Nobody seems to get it unless you have gone through it yourself and nobody seems to have any empathy because i think people are very visual they only believe and understand what they see, its only if people see blood and maybe a limb falling off that they take notice. I was only thinking to myself the other day if i was to describe it to others how i would explain it is this ; It's like I'm a doll that was once alive and full of fun life and joy and excitement and now my battery is gone dead and I'm just thrown to the side but that's only the emotional side the physical side is another issue on top of that which is extremely difficult to deal with but now that more people are talking about it we might get a bit of empathy and understanding from others.

You all miss one very important affect of Menopause. One that caused me great grief. And that is you loose so many parts of you. I had a personality from 'A - Z' each month. i was different everyday. Once I went thru Menopause I went from 'A - G' and I grieved all those other personalities of me. I couldn't get them back. The only thing good about it was that I was able to get off the low amount of Lithium as I was hyper manic. I loved having my periods. I loved all the differences and then they were gone. I have 9 children that I breast fed and I could tell when my periods were coming back. I welcomed it. But when it was gone in my late 40s I just wasn't ready for it. I let myself grieve.

I had early menopause and experienced all of the debilitating symptoms whilst having young children and starting a new life in Australia; none of my friends had started any symptoms; thank goodness I was a nurse with women's health qualifications or I think I would have gone mad! I just don't understand why many women just don't accept their own symptoms like you say because of shame and fear; and often take years before seeking help and then so often get rubbish advice or resistance from their GP! Thank you Davina; Australia needs one of you! 💕

Welcome back Bella. You are beyond fabulous to share this story. I went through my life as a joyous girl with a great job I went through menopause when I was 56 when my periods stopped. It lasted for 18 months with which I had no other signs. However I went into a rage easily. My primary care doctor said HRT may be great for you at this age. I took HRT for 2 years and then to the day later I ceased taking it so to cut my risk of breast cancer. I have nursed my 5 girlfiends with a basket of goodies and flowers and a bottle of wine. I would text them as it was Fabulous Wednesday that I would arrive with a fantastic gift for them I also gave them 52 stamped cards Once a week they would write down about how his has been. For their birthday I sent them a book of all the letters and cards that they and I sent. I was their OOO emergency. If they called I would know to go to check on them. Australia Thank you.

I remember being very young and seeing my gran and aunties with their hankies and dabbing their faces constantly, when my mum started her menopause she told us all about it, she was 36 when it started and she is in her 50s now and she will tell me all about it which I’m great full for, it was just normal in my life for women to discuss it and I will do the same with my 2 girls xx

Hi Davina, I love how you have shone a spotlight on menopausal symptoms and the benefits of hrt. Davina, could you address hrt after breast cancer. I have had a lumpectomy and radiotherapy. I came off hrt, having been on it for 10 years, I managed 6 months without it. My symptoms were horrendous. I am now back on hrt and within 2 weeks I'm like my old self again. However, I feel I have bucked the system. As you know, Tamoxfin is always recommended. Coming off hrt was soo awful that I can't even consider taking this. There are many women suffering intense menapause symptoms due to taking hormone inhibitors. It would be so liberating for women if the symptoms endured were highlighted when taking these and some real research done as to how affective they really are. Thanks Davins, love your positiveness.

Hi Divina, I just want to say a big THANK YOU! I spoke to a female friend, who recommended I watch your Sex, Mind and Menopause documentary. Which I watched and immediately contacted my GP, waited three weeks to have my blood pressure, weight and BMI checked, to then waited another three weeks for a call back from my GP, which happened today and I've been prescribed Evorel 50 patches, which I'm about to start. I highlight 15 of the 34 symptoms over a period time, mainly hot flush, cold sweats, low concentration, brain fog and low moods. I'm going to keep a journal on the Balance app. So grateful for your insight.

I honestly don't get this feeling of being ashamed by hitting the menopause. It's just another life stage. What I do take issue with is the fact all anyone ever talks about is hot flushes and a dry vagina. I rekindled my sex life at the age of 57 after a break of 17 years and it was pretty nice actually, no problems there, not worrying about pregnancy, condoms come with lube, very nice, all of that, but every other bit of me has dried out, including my eyes, my mouth and my skin. I developed eczema and scratched myself red raw. A freak accident where I nearly lost an eye had the happy side effect that the hospital consultant diagnosed dry eyes and now I have eye drops prescribed which are marvellous. An NHS doctor prescribed colloidal cream after a course of steriod cream for the eczema, and I upped the exercise and lost a bit of weight, which has also helped enormously with skin condition. I haven't gone the HRT route though, because I felt it was not for me. I would say though, that everyone's menopause is different, and we do need to insist our GPs take us seriously, and not pigeon hole us or write us off. I feel like my life only just really got going fairly recently. Menopause is not the lead up to death, it's the beginning of a whole new phase of life.

Hi.. Thankyou for your channel & your documentary.. I'm now 46 & been menopausal since very early 20s, due to having been diagnosed of hodgkins lymphoma whilst I was pregnant & a week after my daughter was born I started my journey of chemotherapy. Its been one hell of a roller coaster, I've been very angry for years because I felt very alone & felt robbed of my women hood, yes granted I'm cancer free now but it still emotionally hurts. I've now been put on a tablet for night time progesterone 100mg & oestrogel for the skin, 4 weeks now im sleeping better at night & going through the night, my anxiety has started to get better, less hot sweats too.. Zoe x

Oestragel didn’t work for me even with 3 pumps so I started to take the patches 50mg and I started to notice a big change in the first wk, weight dropped off hot flushes went no night sweats lucky enough also sore joints went felt like the old me…as I started the menopause at 51 and have been going through it a year now..only thing with HRT my periods came back and lasted 2 wks. And very heavy so now fitted with merina coil and no longer have to take HRT.. thanks Davina x

I went to the doctors about 4 years ago with peri menopausal systems (44-my mum was 42 when she went through the menopause) never before had I suffered from anxiety (was off the chart) night sweats, mood swings etc. Doctor offered anti ds or propranolol, I took the propananlol for 4 years but didn't really help with all the symptoms. I then did some research myself on line about HRT and decided to ask for that. I was quite direct with the GP (luckily a female one) she agreed. So weaned my self off the propranolol and went on the HRT patches literally a week before your documentary! I couldn't believe it, felt not only vindicated but sad I didn't get offered the HRT 4 years ago!! Thanks Davina,keep the message going, I've shared your programme with everyone who will listen!!!

Can anyone tell me where I can watch this documentary? I dont have Netflix nor watch TV. Davina, I was talking to an acquaintance at work (she does alot of work with women that have been in abusive relationships) and said alot of women commit suicide when their going through the menopause. I think it's very very important this is at least acknowledged and discussed so if women do start to feel like that, that its normal and feel more encouraged to get help. I have not heard one person talk about this very sensitive aspect.

Been on estradot 100mg and mireena coil, my coil misplaced I'm awaiting for it to get replaced, my estradot 100mg stop working , I had all my symptoms come back and hit me like a bus!! I had my bloods done at my dr , she said my estrogen very low, so she took me off the patches and put me on oestragel, I'm only on it for a week up to 4 pumps as I'm still flushing ! The dr said I should go on utrogestan as I suffer from sleep anxiety, 8m worr as I'm progesterone sensitive, as I've always su from PMS all my life! ❤❤

Watch Dr Lisa Mosconi who wrote The XX Brain. She also did a RU-vid with Dr Louise Newson. The impact of hormonal changes on the female brain is huge. Thank goodness we are entering an era where we know more and can demand more. Oh and watch Dr Christiane Northrup on the wisdom of menopause. She's hilarious, wise and will make you say "bring it on". I was actually excited to become menopausal after listening to her!

Ive never wanted HRT as i took the Pill from 16- 49ish? apart from a break to have my Son orginally due to hideous period pains and heavy bleeding. I was just incredibly relieved to get to menopause though i did suffer mood swings, some hair loss , changes in sex drive etc. Ive never felt any stigma around the menopause personally , i was always incredibly self conscientous about periods but i think thats a generational things, young women seem far more relaxed about things like this now. I think everyone needs to do what feels right for them

Great video. I'm going through the menopause I'm nearly 48. You asked for any suggestions about what you could talk about in your next documentary. I don't think I've ever heard anyone on TV or social media talk about infertility and then the menopause. I have PCOS & endometriosis & I have never been able to have children. There must be loads of people like me but it just never gets talked about. There's a whole bundle of emotion you always think in your mind oh maybe one day it will happen & then you realise it can't & then you have all that comes with having the menopause. Just a thought. Loved your last documentary.

Thank you Davina you're a star!! I live in Spain the difficulties of getting your GP to actually give you a blood test to check your hormone levels is ridiculous. I'm 51, joint pain, brain fog, menstrual cycle all over the place, vaginally dryness....nope apparently I "don't need HRT yet!" . So when in their opinion will I need it once I have gone completely loopy with osteoporosis and unable to have a sex life?? . The GPs act as if they are paying for the cost of HRT from their own pocket 😔😔😔

I also live in Spain and the perimenopausal depression and anxiety are the reason I decided to start private medical insurance. It's pretty cheap for me (57e a month in the Canaries with Adeslas) and worth every penny as it's allowed me to access specialists and tests easily and quickly. As a result, I got HRT (tibolone) for perimenopause.

I am so grateful for all your work on peri/menopause. I am almost 45. Sometimes I really think I’m peri menopausal and other times I think I’m imagining it all. I have downloaded the Balance app to track everything. I suppose I’m wondering at what point should you consider approaching the GP for help? Do you need to wait until you can’t cope or if you just don’t feel like your old self? Trouble is, as I get older everything has changed and so it’s all taking some getting used to, I don’t know what is potentially menopause related and what is just age…?

Thank you Divina, I found this video last night but watched just now & I have realised that my 2 best friends & myself do not need to except beeing fobbed off by the female GP & she is also partner of the NHS doctors surgery saying to one of them that they do not need HRT because it is only for people who are gaving hot flushes. I have come to realise that HRT is monitered therefor it as safe as then contraceptive pill etc and even monitered a little better or maybe a lot better. I am goimg to encourage my 2 friends & myself to begin a mood & health diary fotlr one ir 2 months then to return to the GP or even a gynie clinic if the General Practitioners do at the pracrice do not seem to understand.
