There seems to be some confusion with the new RIA TM22 rifle when it comes to the barrel threads. A bit thank you to those who have brought light to this issue and big thank you to Rock Island Armory for their communication so far to help shed some light on what happened.

I have the problem. Bought from old man who never used thread adapters. I do, have 1/2 x 28 just won’t fit. What’s the latest on adapters as it looks like I can’t send it in.

sad to say, seems from other comments here you are pretty much on your own. it really bothers me to no end that RIA dropped the ball here so badly... and after i notified them of the issue super early, before production models even released (allegedly). options? find a good gunsmith who can machine things. have it chopped and rethreaded? have him figure out the threads and build an adapter? the only thing you need to pay attention to there and a gunsmith would know this, is being certain your overall barrel length stays 16" or longer.

I will say this, ria customer service has proved itself to me i had an xt22 mag pistol that had problems so i sent it back and instead of getting the response i got from another well known 1911 manufacturer ria litterally admitted a mistake was made during manufactering my pistol and they where sending my ffl a new pistol. I got the new pistol and it's been flawless

Just a tip to folks mounting optics... Don't mount the optic over the screws that attach the rail... To disassemble and clean the TM22 you have to remove those screws & the rail...
@CloverTac
@CloverTac Год назад
thanks for the heads up! that is actually pretty common on a lot of things... optics gotta go where optics gotta go though, sometimes there is not choice. so for those in that boat, just remember where it was all mounted. you get far more issues when you mess with mount to scope that mount to firearm. doubtful the POI is perfect, but should still be pretty close. i have taken optics off some of our competition Buckmarks to do things between matches and they have been close enough without having to waste much time on the sight in bulls once the next match starts.

UPDATES HERE! EDIT: It looks like the TM22 is still listed on the Davidson's website but now the inventory has been changed to "Out Of Stock". EDIT: The Turkish manufacturer says the thread specs are "root 14.9mm, major 15.9mm, muzzle 0.8mm and pitch 0.55mm". I have yet to confirm what this really means. EDIT: It would appear that Rock Island Armory has issued a recall on all the TM22 rifles that have been sold by Davidson's. If you fall into this category, give their customer service team a shout.

It’s the taper and peak of the thread pattern. It’s all in metric and it definitely ain’t able to be converted to any standard 🔩 can let alone a nut 🔩
@CloverTac
@CloverTac 2 года назад
why are you saying it definitely cannot be converted. if you know the specs on the threads and you know what size you need, an adapter can be made, no? ii have already had a couple of convesraions with machinist friends who said yeah, if you got the numbers you can make it hapen. so i am a bit confused, maybe i am overlooking something or just misunderstanding your comment. own a bunch of various thread adapters for supproessors. at this point though, really doesn't matter much either way, seems RIA is trying to get them all back and correct the issue... which is after all the right move here.
@InTheYear
@InTheYear 2 года назад
@@CloverTac ok yes an adapter can be made and if the metric threads were machined off you could start with fresh threads that may be able to fit a standard thread type if there is enough material to do so. Also, the wall integrity of the barrel could be compromised if one was to remove the metric threads and start over. Really I just like the word definitely and use it when I believe things get wonky and can mess up my bing gangs.
@CloverTac
@CloverTac 2 года назад
😂🤣😂🤣 i hear ya. yeah first, i don't have one of these, yet, so just going off what sevearl viewers and followers have relayed to me. and i am also no where near a machinist (though i do dabble). it is good that RIA seems to be taking care of this and honestly, i don't hink they had much choice since the distributor screwed things up. but then again, maybe they should have paid a little more attention to the threads to begin with on the samples and early production they got in. i have a feeling, like me when I first saw this, they just "assumed" they would be 1/2x28. and we all know what happens when we assume 🤣😂

correct, think i put tht in the pinned comment a while back BUT if you red through the comments, there still appears to be a lot of these out there with the weird threads when they should be been all pulled IMO... and people are saying RIA won't cover the return shipping, which is crazy. so folks definitely need to still be aware and be careful. maybe insist that a dealer thread on a 1/2x28 muzzle device of some sort just to be sure

22LR ammo is extremely picky... since this is new, give it some time and try some different ammo for sure. sadly i can't speak to this one too much, have only shot these at industry events, etc. but, i do have tons of experience with 22s in general and yeah, they can be picky firearms... add that to the finicky ammo and bam, sometimes the struggle gets real 😂🤣

I'm confused I was always under the conclusion. Rock island armory was a gun company from the philippine Islands that started making factories here in the US? As far as my threads. I think they are correct. I don't know the exact measurements. But they are the same as the ones on my aftermarket. Glock and other nine millimeter threaded barrel So do I have the correct threading for the gun

this video was not knocking RIA (those opinions are irrelevant), this video is not "opinion" as i was literally communicating with a RIA gunsmith. at this point, this video is moot really UNLESS you have bought one of these used or maybe got unlucky with new old stock somehow. it does appear, evident by aforementioned communication as well as comments here that this issue was resolved. so you may very well not have this issue. if this doesn't help clear things up, again, reach out to me on social PM/DM, email, website, etc so we can have an more detailed conversation.

oh, on the note of RIA, i again won't speak to them being a "good company" as that is opinion. RIA has things built from a variety of countries, Phillipines, Turkey and the Czech Republic to name three and yes, some stuff is produced in the US too.

As of today, 03/12/23 they are still allowing the mis-threaded ones into circulation. When I contacted Armscor, they said I'd have to return the TM22, BUT at my FFl expense, so I'd have to pay FFl fees for sending it back and to receive it back and where I am that would total $80 out of my pocket. I suggested they send me a properly threaded barrel and I'd return the incorrect one, and that way no need for a FFL as the barrel alone is NOT a firearm, but they refused saying a "gunsmith had to change out the barrel" even though their own owners manual shows you how easy it is to unscrew it and screw it back in, no gunsmith needed. So if anyone is going to buy a TM22, be sure to VERIFY it has the correct 1/2 x 28 threading BEFORE you buy and pay for it.
@CloverTac
@CloverTac Год назад
wow, hate to hear that and that is EXACTLY why i wanted to get this video out as soon as i was aware of the issue... so people could double check things and avoid issue alltogether i am sure Armscor knows how many went out to distributors and they know how many they may have gotten back but doubt who knows how many of those distributors sold em before they were supposed to and or how many distributors or dealers were even paying enough attention to be aware. before i spent $80, i would likely seek out a gunsmith or machinist to make me a thread adapter for it and just be done.
@rickkrystof6038
@rickkrystof6038 Год назад
@@CloverTac I found an adapter as well as muzzle brakes threaded 5/8 x 24 but for .308 and don't know if/how that will affect the TM 22's accuracy. Just don't like having to incur any $$ expense for an issue that should not have existed and was knowingly allowed. Hopefully others won't get "trapped".
@CloverTac
@CloverTac Год назад
so are you saying yours is 5/8x24? because in all the testing we did for this video, my gunsmith along with those at RIA, it was 100% not a common thread like that, was a proprietary metric thread.
@jameshulett-re7up
@jameshulett-re7up Год назад
I am dealing with the same thing. Just purchased a new one 2 days ago and the threads are not 1/2x28. Contacted support and they said I can send it back at my expense. Murdoch’s doesn’t take returns on firearms. Now I’m stuck with this thing. Definitely my last RIA/armscor purchase unless they reverse course and decide to make it right on their own dime.
@CloverTac
@CloverTac Год назад
if it is 5/8x24, those adapters are readily available for pretty cheap, so quick fix would be to pick up one of those. if you were unlucky enough to get an early one with the goofy metric, who knows threads, then a gunsmith/machinst and rethread is sadly the only fix... or a custom adapter. it does seem that RIA is not doing what they should in light of this issue. to be fair to them a bit, the distributors released these when they were not actually supposed to. then they trickled down to the actual dealers who were probably unaware of the issues as well. but ultimately, is falls on RIA to make it right. even if they would just produce some adapters and send em out, that would probably make most people happy enough. and for a company like RIA, that would not be a major cost for them either. this type of things is bound to happen when a company imports things from other countries without diligent oversight, so while not directly their fault, still their fault. 😂🤣 my advice would be to first see if you can score something threaded 5/8x24 to see if it fits, if it does, probably not worth the hassle, just order and adapter (available all over the place) and be done with it. at least that would be my move. it is sorta starting to make sense as to why they have not sent me one of these to work with on the channel. by bringing light to this, i have probably ticked em off... oh well i suppose, not like i don't have plenty of other things from other companies to work with. if you think i can help in any way, reach out BUT do not do it here as i don't get notifications for replies and seldom even get them for original comments. use my website, email, social medias, etc.

Is there a way to tell if I have a early model I just won one at a whitetails unlimited and want to see if I have a early model
@CloverTac
@CloverTac Год назад
oh yeah, definitely is... NOTHING will thread onto it 😂🤣 seriously, find you a 1/2x24 or 5/8x28 muzzle device of some sort, maybe at a local gun shop or gun show, maybe even can find a nut at a hardware store. if neither of those work, well, then you know. from there, sadly, seems RIA isn't doing much to help folks that ended up with these (having to pay shipping two ways, etc). so best option might be just having a local gunsmith or machinist rethread it or build an adapter.

Hey i realize your video is a bit older but i just purchased my TM22 and its a 1/2x28 as far as i know? I literally just purchased mine today from PSA. So it could take up to two weeks ot get mine?lol All while paying off a SKS i purchased at the same FFL the TM is going too! LOL I forget if there is a limit to how many long guns i can buy in a month but its one per month here for handguns! :>/ Thats a blue state for you! lol
@CloverTac
@CloverTac Год назад
just becaues PSA says it is 1/2x28 does not mean it is... unless you have it in hand and can confirm, just be aware. the marketing literature when these were released said 1/2x28 and many distributors and dealers are still using that even though there are obvious issues.

Oh yea i have ot get a muzzle device for it too! Or the FFL will have to weld and pin the thread protector on it! LOL Cant wait to find it so when it comes in i can give it to the FFL to weld on? Or it will be istting at my FFL until i can.....hehe They will let me take it in the range to shoot it but i wont be able ot leave with it until its prper! That sux lol thanks it sux to know that there was any issues for folks that purchased this gun strait away? I leanred ot wait for a Gen2 or at least a year or two before purchasing as they have worked all the kinks out by then and they are normally a bit cheaper! LOL Caught mine on a sale for 199.99! Im happy
@CloverTac
@CloverTac Год назад
assuming it comes 1/2x28 or 5/8x24, finding a muzzle device should not be an issue. worst case, a good gunsmith with some machining equipment and skills could rethread it pretty easy or even build a custom muzzle device for the weird threads if that is the case. keep us updated on what all happens, there are definitely people here who i am sure would be interested.
