What were your expectations from the Aprilia Tuareg 660?
@plt4415

Well my expectations were not this high not from Tuareg but you(as a strong follower of your channel even). Very very well review, I enjoyed every seconds, technically, of it. Also please feel free to make more jokes on Americans, I like it D)))

Pretty much on par with your conclusion. Which actually also was my conclusion, after having tested it, though much less comprehensive than you have. Time being the reason. But I had the same good feeling!

I've ordered one after riding it against the Tenere 700 World raid as a comparison. The wait is long but I'm hoping it will arrive in the next 3 weeks.

probably the lightest and the most rider friendly ADV bike i have tried, the RS 660 torque is present, this bike makes displacement a secondary factor in choosing a bike

I went from a T7 to the Toureg. I don't like rider aided bikes but the Toureg has absolutely blown me away for just $1500 nzd more than the T7. Especially after the power delivery update and factory quick shifter was fitted. Only thing I added was a bash plate, Barkbusters, screen extension and lower pegs as I'm a 6"2 ex hard endro racer

Hi Willyd,i was wondering since i'm the same hight as you (and also ex hard enduro racer although only 35years ago.. :-)) I was wondering about the lower pegs. How do they work ? Where can i find them and how to choose them. Is the knee at a better angle that way ? Do they combine well with the gear lever ? Thank's

I test rode one this summer and absolutely loved it! The intake sound when you give it some is really addicting! It also looks really good. Coming from a Ktm 1190 adv r and 790 adv r i found it to have just enough power, of course i wish it had 20 more hp, but in return it was so flickable and light feeling. The suspension was plush and really nice compared to the Ktm counterpart which are really stiff. Im used to heat so i did not notice it that well. The riding position for me at 178cm was great, not too much bend in the knees. Traction control and cruise control is a big win for me. For me, im going with the Aprilia or a Bmw R1200GS, time will tell. I also test rode the T7 and the Tuareg feels way peppier and quicker for me. Fit and finish was also in another leage on the Tuareg.

So true! I test rode many of the same bikes you mentioned and decided on the Tuareg with no regrets. Your assessment of those bikes is dead on. Also I own an 18 beta 500rr-s and want to complete the stable with either an R1250GS or KTM 1290SAS, as you said time will tell.

I just want to say that I own a cb500x outfitted for long ADV rides. For something like 70% pavement 30% offroad it's fantastic. If youre on a budget you can get one for about $7,000 with very few miles on it, and realistically it will go 95% of the places the other bikes will, just a bit slower.

Nice work! One of the better to the point reviews I've watched. And as a new owner of a T660 - I agree. I only notice the heat down near my right foot though. I also find the tank to provide better wind protection than my Tiger 850 Sport did. Also really enjoy your sense of humor, made the video entertaining. Keep up the good work!.

Thank you for comprehensive review. I tested the Tuareg and agree with all your comments. Just surprised you didn't notice how hard was the gear pedal to change gears. Great review. I've had mine for a few months and will take it off-road after I put on the crash bars. For me, the real test will be whether I can lift it when I crash on a hill (repeatedly - it's what I do). Having just sold my WR250R, I will need a trail bike to complement the Tuareg, but for roads and gravel, it's a comfortable ride. I was tempted by the Yamaha T7 but they are too hard to find, and tubeless tires are a necessity. Also, they carry their weight a bit high. Perhaps the newest version with larger fuel tanks will remedy that, but the lack of cruise control is a deal breaker - something I didn't know I loved until I bought the Tuareg. As an old man, it really helps.

I am seriously considering buying one of these after being very underwhelmed by the new Transalp! I have yet to watch a bad review so well done Aprilia!

Great review and I agree with all of your likes and dislikes. I have one and totally love it. I originally was trying to get a T7 but in the US they are almost impossible to find these days. So when Aprilia came out with the Tuareg I jumped on it and am now super happy. Yes, it runs hot. Yes that mode button is so easy to accidentally switch to a mode you don't want. However, it is such a fun bike to ride on and off road. I hope that more aftermarket parts will start to appear. Aprilia really charges a lot for their accessories. The skid plate is the thickness of a Coke can. Why do manufacturers even put them on when they are worthless. The hand guards are also super flimsy and do little than stop a bit of air. But yes. Thank you Aprilia. I am in love. cheers Mate
@scratastic1
@scratastic1 Месяц назад
It kinda makes sense because these days ADV bikes are popular but many people only ride light off road (similar to the SUV cars) so why put on more expensive hand guards and a bash plate if most riders won't need those and get the starting price higher. This way the entrance point for beginners is great and everyone who goes more hardcore off road just gets the after market parts instead.

Very nice review imho. Obviously the Italians are fantastic designers. I hope they resolve the reliability issues that have plagued several different brands. I've ridden the T7 on the road only. With the catalytic converter the engine runs hot off of recycling exhaust gasses it leaves you with a roasting right foot which might be appreciated in extreme sub arctic & full on arctic environments like Canada and Russia and Alaska & Maine & Minnesota & North & South Dakota & the upper peninsula of Michigan i think the bike needs that racing engine coolant called wetter than water it's similar to Machine Shop Coolant for For CNC & Lathe Coolant fluid and a doubled in Capacity Radiator would serve the Aprilia Tuareg 660 very well

Great review. They are wonderful bikes for their intended purpose. I own two of them; one for me and one for my wife. She has about 2,200 miles on hers and I have about 1,800 miles (both USA) on mine. About 1/3 the miles are on unpaved roads, including 2 sections of the Idaho BDR. I chose the Tuareg over the T7 (also a great bike) for precisely the features you outlined in the video. For long distance travel (a week +) on mostly paved roads, I'll still take my GSA (wife has a GS), but for the 3-5 day camping trips riding unpaved forest/logging roads, in the Western US States (where we live), the Tuareg is an excellent choice.

Great bike, but a piss poor dealer network, which for those of us in the US is a deal breaker. I have a track modified RS660 which I love, but it’s a track bike. If I break down at the track, I just put it in my van and drive it home to the one dealer we have in Seattle. But if I break down with this, in the middle of nowhere I think I’ll be screwed. So I opted for a Africa Twin

Hey brother. Fantastic analysis. I have a Tuareg. And I can't argue with your assessments. The heat you are feeling on your legs is due to the Catalytic converter. There are options out there to put on a different exhaust and that completely eliminates that heat. (Not legal in all regions.) THAT SAID, I'm visiting Romania in a couple weeks. Are motorcycle rentals/tours available in Romania? I plan on being in Bucharest for a few days, then Brasov. But I have a couple days left. I'd like to see your country on two wheels if possible. I thought this was the perfect bike and wanted to order it, sadly the fake air vents and the single frame body made me change my mind, the heat issue is understandable with euro 5. I found out that they also had some issues with the engine (believe it's fixed with a new map), a leaking gasket and now one of the Tuareg riders I follow had a ballbearing failure on the rear wheel. Waiting to see what the issue was. I bet the next version of this bike is going to be amazing.

I keep hearing people compare this bike to the T7 in regard to reliability and service etc. 1. Are you riding or own both the T7 and this one at the same time to make this comparison? 2. Can the common people even able to get their hands on a Yamaha T7 these days? With Yamaha delivering sub-par numbers of bike to us? 3. If yamaha is such a reliable beast, why do you care about dealership network and parts availability?

I have a Tuareg 660 and love it for normal off-road riding (not single track nasty stuff). Just finished a 6 day ride of the WYBDR and it performed well. During the ride I broke the front tire bead from the wheel (running too low pressure) and cracked the front mud guard when I bottomed out on a large rut at 30 mph. All in all, it ran great for the ride and even performed better than the an expert rider in our group on a new Tenere 700 who had to skip Section 4 given how hard the was.

I find it funny you said it has no fueling issues. This bike has a serious stutter at around 3500rpm when you’re just cruising. Aprilia has acknowledged they are working on a fix. I’ve got 6,000 miles on mine and I don’t know anyone else who has one that doesn’t have this issue somewhere between 3000 and 4000 rpm. As for the heat, I’m pretty sure it’s the cat and not the radiator. My bike pretty much stays at two bars on the temp gauge unless I’m in heavy traffic. I rarely even hear the fan come on. I also think the engine runs hotter because it has less than 3 quarts of oil in it. That’s not a lot to keep things cool inside the mill. I barely notice the heat but I’ve ridden a lot of Harleys so heat is relative. I changed my windscreen to a Puig screen but I’ve done multiple 10 hour days on the highway with this bike cruising at 80 to 85mph. I’m 240lbs and have hard panniers. This bike is exceptional on the highway. Zero issues with anything

I've heard 'Dave done it right' .. so Dave is working with Aprilia ? Where I live the difference between T7 and the Tuareg is 5000 euro, so there is no question which one to buy..

@@LongWayHome Israel, where we pay 100% tax for cars and motorcycles.. T7 will cost you 21,458€ and the Tuearg will cost you 26,205€ 😥. If I would tell you how much the insurance cost you'll $#it bricks... 😰

I'm 5'7 and the T7 is just way too tall. The Tuareg at 840mm is much more manageable and the tubeless spoke wheels seal the deal.

This year i was in the market for a new adv bike. I tested them all, from yamaha, to ktm, bmw, all of them, i had my mind set on the tuareg after rideing most of them and i was really close to buying it. The only problem was the price, not it’s price but the africa twin’s, which was about 500€ more. The honda is a diffrent machine all together, better electronics, better engine, better build quality, a better all rounder. It’s a pitty that aprilia didn’t enter “the rabla program”

A well conceived middleweight adventure bike burdened by inconsistent quality assurance and spotty access to dealers, at least in the USA. I gave serious consideration to this bike but just not confident enough in the brand to make a purchase.

What's this Tubeless tyre obsession? Tyre could is crap with tubeless. Most of the KTM guys are ording the 1.85 front and 2.50 rear off road KTM wheel set just to go back to tubes and have some proper gnarly rubber choice. I'm having to stuff tubes back in my own 1290 Super Adventure R just to get the right rubber.
