We've come to full circle, I can't run DOOM anymore

Played this not to long ago... and it REALLY does change the feeling of the game. It's like Doom 3 but much better.

"Doom is timeless" ~ The Icon of Sin. There was a mod called Doom Remake 4, by an author that basically compiled a bunch of other programmers work & essentially claimed it as their own. The remake was kind-of banned, but if you can find a copy & add the new ray-tracing you'll probably melt your graphics card.

I wish there was an original doom remake 3d models like the modern doom games and a game play loop kind of tweaked for that

The question of “But can it run DOOM?” has gone so far that somebody had to answer the question of “But can DOOM run it into the ground?”

Doom 3 is basically what doom would be like if doom guy was a regular marine in a horror environment. And that's kinda how I saw original doom myself as a kid, playing slowly with keyboard only.

I was born in 81... and totally remember being blown away by Doom. I mean, up till then atari and nes was all I ever played before. It was my first time seeing gore and overtly satanic imagery... it was totally considered a horror game at the time.

That new lighting effect is Ray Tracing, the new trend in the gaming industry and it's damn taxing on the PC/console. I think that unless you have a monster PC, using Ray Tracing is still far from good performance-wise.

I want to see how the OG DOOM would look with modern graphics and mechanics

I was 11 or 12 when played Doom for the first time back in 1996. And yes, it scared the crap outta me. That first pinky running at me made me quit. It was on a CRT monitor, in the family office with only a small desk lamp for light. The good old days of DOS gaming. Lol

I want a Doom / Doom 2 remake to be as good as the Shadow of the Colossus remake is. It was so ridiculously clear that the people who worked on that project really understood and loved the original. We need that kind of crew on a legit modern overhaul.

Doom 1993 should have a remake with music buy Andrew hushult,vertical aiming,new levels that have new weapons,and fully hand drawn graphics. That would be sick.

I think it's funny how we can make calculators run classic Doom but at the same time add mods to it so that not even a powerful PC can run it.

Also, commentary apart, for the naysayers who do not consider Doom a horror game: while it's true that the gameplay is very rooted in arcade style shooting, the tech in which it is built says otherwise. In fact, one of the technical innovations of the Doom engine is something called "diminished lighting", which makes things fade to darkness as they are farther away from the player. John Romero called it, and I paraphrase, "instant spooky, just add a bit of flashing lights to keep the player on edge." Still don't believe me? Just look at how E1M2 is made and illuminated. Remember the light trap on E1M3 when you grab the blue keycard?

It's moments like this that make me really hate how expensive gaming PC's are😩

For what it’s worth, you can load doom2 on this exe by changing the doom2.wad file name to doom.wad. It doesn’t like it, and mostly none of the light fixtures work, but you can still use a flashlight. I’m too scared to play it like that.

Doom 2 is the one that really needs a remake

This is indeed a WHOLE new game! Wow, so beautiful yet so scary! Amazing! I like how the rockets and imp fireballs light up the entire room and how doomguy casts a shadow!

The part in the dark hallway reminds me of that one part of the Batman where they’re shooting at him and he just see the bullets lighting up the hallway

I've heard about this mod before. Apparently, it can actually run on 1000-series cards (such as my GTX 1080), even though said cards weren't made for ray-tracing. How would it perform? Also my CPU is an 8700k.

I'm from 1980 and I didn't think it looked realistic back when Doom came out. I couldn't believe what I saw as it was just leaps ahead of Wolfenstein and it's clones but it was still cartoon-ish (very bloody cartoon-ish but still). To me it was much more about exploring, climbing up stairs, finding secrets, and hoping to find a spot to get 'outside' rather than a realistic horror game. The plastic aesthetic is part of that nostalgic feeling regarding this game I think. Btw. gameplay wise, I do think the modern reiterations of Doom, 2016 and Eternal, are spot on.

My first computer was a Macintosh Classic. I remember the 480p days, and earlier. In my memories it still looks dope as hell though

Omg Outbreak! That and Outbreak 2 were amazing! I even saw a recent play on a private server, and they both still hold up. I highly recommend playing it if anyone can find running servers for it and have fun.

I havent watched the whole video yet,but id like to point out that most games actually DID look as good as you remember,as you were playing them on CRT monitors at the time which the games were designed around, you should compare classic games on a old monitor compared to latest.

lol theres a mod being currently made that turn the 2d sprites of the game into 3d voxel models that fit the artstyle perfectly (monsters included), currently the guy is trying to get a new pc to test his mod out with that raytracing mod. if it works it would freaking works.

I would like to download this, but I feel like the lights sources are way too bright in order to make up for the lack of lights in the levels. If the amount of light comming from projectiles and guns can be toned down to be more atmospheric then I'm game. I usually run PBR textures, use the moodiest light setting, and use a good flashlight mod and it looks gorgeous.

All these things being said about Doom but you could play it on every desktop in the electronic section at the store.

And i also think that doom eternal was too way shakin and fast, i liked the narrative part even if its been too much intricated. doom 3 was the real sequel 😆. Sorry for my english grammar, bye! 😉

I think it'd be more interesting to get a game that covers the creation of the doom slayer legend. Imagine what they could do with a expanded hell foundation. And we could exspeariance the imprisonment in the tomb at the end. And of course the doom marines assent to a godlike being.

Remaking the original brings so many questions that might be divisive. Same levels or changed? Glory kills? Same combat as original Doom, 2016, Eternal, or something new? I know that personally, as someone thats been paying doom since I was a 8 years old in '93 - I'll play it and love it so long as the same awesome people are still working there that made the last two games.

technivally its not fully rose tinted glasses unless you didnt play on a crt tv. alot of these were optimized to look good on crts while being performant.

I know that Doom 2016 was kind of a remake, having all the same bosses and enemies, but it still takes place later in the timeline. How neat would it be to have a 1 to 1 replica of the og levels but with the modern mechanics and style?

I remember specifically thinking Oblivion graphics were astounding and cutting edge when it came out. It’s not rose tinted nostalgia glasses. I literally thought that and used to film me and my friend playing it with my little minDV camcorder lol. Games with amazing graphics for the time look next to realistic to kids when the come out because we have no reference of the games in the coming years. Now oblivion is a meme 😔 😂

Where do you guys get these rose-tinted glasses that make classic games look HD and play without bugs? Cuz whenever I remember classic games I remember them exactly as they were, bugs and all.

yeah as soon as i saw this mod was out i downloaded the mod and started playing. framerate really got hammered but after some adjustments it runs pretty damn good, and looks damn sexy

Interresting source port but imho it would need more effort on engine - especially sprite handling, and on maps. Having almost no light might make game more 'atmospheric' but it changes gameplay from Doom1/2 to Doom 3 which is not the best way to experience these games

I'm impressed someone was able to have fun with Enter the Matrix at all. I never tried it, because where I live it was universally reviled by the gaming press (and sounds like they were right for once) so I gave it a skip.

I remember having some nightmares here and there......and the scare jumps. But this one......will be a bit of a struggle to beat because the feel to them and if a good scary sond for certain doom levels in my opinion: doom song from doom 32x level 6 .....good song!!!!!

Mfs will say they wish Doom 1 got a modern remake when Doom 3 and 4 are right there. Doom 1 does not translate well to modern 3D visuals and as far as old games go, it aged like fine wine and the gameplay still holds up if you let yourself appreciate it.

Resident Evil 4 is hardly the only game from the PS2 that is still very playable thanks to great level design and fine tuned gameplay. A lot of the games I have on PS2 still are still fun to me except for the ones I never found fun. Even some games I wasn’t able to get into before are now clearer to me. Then there’s Armored Core 2. Which I couldn’t get into as a kid, and as an adult I can see why. It feels impossible. After you get like an hour into it the missions and arena battles feels totally unfairly balanced. Plus you move with the arrow keys and that hurts my thumb.

Actually some specific personal computer windows Mac OS linux can run this mod if they have the latest graphics hardware accelerator thing (which you have to use gzdoom or lzdoom or also prdoom/prboom) which it is different than the typical software rendering accelerator also known as vanilla like since ms dos or doom 95 Mac doom or Linux doom source ports

We’ve had several “remakes” for doom. Such as the old port JDoom back in the mid 2000s, and more recently DOOM3D with raytracing that got taken down by Bethesda.

Yeah I played enter the matrix in fact me and my mate we had a little sub game which we made up which was how many moves can you make to knock a agent off the edge so there was a bit of the game I think it was early in the game but basically your being chased by an agent I believe across roof tops but there is one bit where it's a little area with a edge which you can knock the agent off the best I did was three moves lol that was fun. So the issue I have with this doom wad and the lighting is some areas are just too dark it's one thing having atmosphere but it's too much if it's pitch black so like there is a brutal doom wad I saw I believe it was brutal doom black edition or something I'll have to look after writing this and I'll add to the comment once I get the name correct but basically that is my point all the game play I saw of that was just pitch black you could not see a thing and its too much I would like to be able to see something at least with the game play your showing which I just saw writing this it looks like you have a flashlight so at least there's that I'll check the name of that brutal doom wad I'm sure it's black edition but I want to be sure so if anyone wants to look at it they will know what I mean and I believe something like that is too much its too dark. So I've just looked and it was definitely brutal doom black edition however the game play I saw must have been either a early build or the guy wasn't using his flash light in his play through because the one I literally just took a look at he was using a flashlight and I believe that was the latest build as well so that's not too bad because at least you can see what your doing with a flashlight but I do stand by my point that it is a fine line between good lighting which gives a better atmosphere to not enough lighting which becomes frustrating I'm the type of person who don't get me wrong I light a good bit of atmosphere but at the same time I like to be able to see whats around me I mean since doom eternal really I have very much fallen for environmental story telling and atmosphere but yeah anyway cheers for upload

Doom and Doom II are some of the few games I've bought after seeing playthroughs online. Why would I buy a game if I can get most of the experience watching someone else play it? Well Doom does it differently, Doom has just enough story to say why you are fighting demons and then says "Oh, and by the way, you are playing as yourself." You are the Doom marine. You aren't Gordon, you aren't Chell, you aren't Mario, you aren't Megaman, you aren't Miner Willy, you aren't Mae, you are yourself. Have fun with the power fantasy! I almost feel id did a disservice to Doom when they later fleshed out the backstory of Doomguy. I don't want to play a role like an actor following a script, I want to play as me. I'm the one holding the gun and killing Satan's minions - me!

Unnn... So, why was the title of the video 'YOU CAN'T RUN THIS DOOM MOD' when it should of been... 'I TALK ABOUT DOOM AND MENTION A VERY HIGH END DOOM MOD' ... I'd be willing to bet that this mod would crash LZDooM, because this 2007 DELL is so lackluster...
