My 1st song in hard rock was "Into the void" by Black Sabbath on a school trip in 1975. (A classmate had an older brother.) Having become a scifi fan in '74, I was hooked instantly. While my brother and me had already been into all the Marvel comics and the Superman and Batman stuff. I soon discovered Led Zeppelin, who became my favourite band for a long time. By 1979 I had my driving liscence, so we went to see Led Zeppelin down in Bremen. Some 100 km's south of Hamburg. Sadly, the last tour they ever made. Most important decade to me is the 7ties: 'cause "hard rock" as we know it today was really invented in the seventies. Small attempts during the late 6ties came to bloom. And very different genres grew out of this. I fully and absolutely hate RAP. Can't wait for brilliant Juliette to teach me about the beauty of it. Just came across "Bent Knee". And instantly loved it. I first listened to "Holy ghost" (a suggestion). Showed it to a workmate. That band has 2 new fans, now! Can't wait for them to come to Hamburg, again. Not wanting to miss them, this time. Keep up the good work!

Thanks for answering my question! Since violin and piano are the instruments that your family seems most familiar with, it's interesting to compare that against the types of metal that you seem to enjoy more. As a pianist myself, I found that symphonic metal was a natural fit for me, even though I do really enjoy all the various sub genres of metal. Good music is good music, no matter where it gets categorized.

Thank you for the answers. I have discovered metal when i was 13 or 14. At first I was listening to Sodom, Destruction, Overkill, Kreator, Obituary, Napalm Death, Anal Cunt, Cannibal Corpse... but later I have discovered some other music thaq I stick to but it brought me back to what I was listening to before so I realized that past will never leave you alone...

You know what I dont see many people react to even though the band seems to be well known.... Evanescence! Not sure what you guys have heard (or not) but if you haven't listened to them in a while try something from the Synthesis album. In fact try from the live shows... my fave song from that is probably End of the Dream or maybe Amy Lee's song Speak to Me. Amy doesnt have the technicality of Floor or someone like that, but Amy probably has my favourite female voice.

Good answers! It's sad to an extent that kids aren't necessarily into metal music in a wider sense but metal, especially "old school" metal, has taken a LOT of really hard hits in between the time Chuck was growing up and now when his kids are. Classic hip hop also to a certain extent. But the key is that there are younger folks who have an open mind and are willing to at least listen even if they aren't into the sound or message necessarily. I think that is a positive thing.
@ChemicalReactions
@ChemicalReactions 5 лет назад
Dean Smith The other big difference is that the harder sound became the mainstream in the 90s. Everyone listened to Grunge, alternative rock and 90s Metallica. So we weren’t marginalized. Nowadays, softer, computer-generated sounds are the mainstream. It’s a big step to heavy guitars and fast beats.
@neilpatrickhairless
@neilpatrickhairless 5 лет назад
I also think metal and old school rap/hiphop suffered due to a lot of the main artists pushing those stylistic approaches are now dead. It's wild how quickly tastes can flip on a mass scale overnight
@neilpatrickhairless
@neilpatrickhairless 5 лет назад
They told me the same thing they told Dee Snider when approaching a label with my music: "We aren't DOING *that* anymore" I think actually a lot of the new interest in these old metal bands and stuff are actually directly linked to channels such as this and the audience throwing out names of bands and artists. I actually know people that have seen significant upticks in their music sales right after a reaction video drops.

if you guys consider 80s metal to be the best metal era, as I do too, you should seriously look into the European bands of that time who still perform till today. the big 3 [an alternative to the US big 4] include Kreator, Destruction and Sodom, widely considered the godfathers of Euro thrash. Particularly Kreator keeps releasing some mind-blowing music for decades. I'd suggest sth off of Pleasure to kill, incl the title song, but you might find it too ferocious., so a better introduction could be done thru Some pain will last. As to Destruction, Bestial Invasion and Antichrist are considered thrash classics, and with Sodom, I'd give a listen to Nuclear winter or Conjuration. An honorable mention from that era, though power metal, would be Accept. Their Metal heart and Princess of the dawn are eargasmic..

I feel your channel should start featuring some older rock/metal music than Chuck's time as a new series . Bands like Led Zeppelin , Deep Purple, Beatles , Sabbath and many more. They bring a lot of later music into perspective, since all music derives from all music before it. This will hopefully have some songs which neither of you have heard before , and so the reactions would be even more authentic ;p

Juliette - regarding wearing metal band t-shirts, I think no-one should wear one unless they (a) have seen them live, or (b) own at least one album (CD or vinyl).
@neilpatrickhairless
@neilpatrickhairless 5 лет назад
I personally have worn a lot of band shirts from bands I haven't seen live or bought a record from. I don't really buy into the whole "poser" thing though. That's why the music industry is in the shape it is. Far too many people alienating people from it with the whole "you have to do this or look like this or act like this" - imagine if Alice Cooper made the music he actually dresses and lives like in his personal life? We would be listening to Pastel Pink Golf Rock. Someone wearing a shirt may lead someone that sees it to check the band out after all
@neilpatrickhairless
@neilpatrickhairless 5 лет назад
For example, does the guy in this video, who is obviously an educated man with a "straight" job LOOK like a guy who listens to Cannibal Corpse of all possible bands or would even buy a t-shirt with that band's imagery on it?
@ChemicalReactions
@ChemicalReactions 5 лет назад
I’m a bit on both sides. I never bought a shirt for a band I haven’t seen live and/or own music. That being said, I did “hear” about bands through others’ shirts or graffiti so more people having it can lead to greater penetration. And I did look more like a metal kid in my teens with my long hair, death metal bling, band shirts, and jean jacket with a Carcass patch on it!!
