You're seriously the love of my life, Adam. 😆 I started doing competitive figure skating, when I was about 7 years old, and I loved it. I had done ballet and gymnastics before that, and had started doing stage when I was 6, so all of those helped with the skating, immensely. Sadly, when I turned 9, my dad passed away, and with that, all my ambition and drive for figure skating, died with him. I just thought, "If Daddy isn't going to be in the stands to watch me, what's the point?", because my dad was my everything. He was the man I endeavored to become, as an adult. So, despite having won every competition I had ever done, and the attempt at strong encouragement from my coach, my home rink team, and my mom and best friend, I stopped skating. My feet did not touch ice again at all, until 2004, when I was able to watch the(televised) Japan Novice Championships, and a young Hanyu-san made it look like he was skating on air, and took gold. Without telling anyone, I went to the closest rink I had at the time, and tried to skate. There was still quite a bit of muscle memory, but my physique had changed drastically, due to playing every team contact sport I could. I had also just recently gone through the hardest, darkest time of my life, after my best friend died in December of 2003, which had lead to self harm, eat disorders, and attempted suicide. As I started skating, and realized I was having trouble with things that should have been basics for me, and then looked up to not see my dad, I had a panic attack. I collapsed on the ice, and the next thing I remember, is the EMTs putting a breathing mask on me. After that, I didn't want to go back near the ice, at all. But in January of 2005, my Japanese cousin took me to Oregon, saying that taking a trip to the only physical place I considered home, the Pacific Northwest, would do me some good. What she really did, was take me to the 2005 US Championships, where I saw you compete, and take silver. I cried, watching you skate, because it made me want to skate again, so badly. After that, I started just going to the rink to skate and be on the ice. But when I was 18, I was in a horrific car accident, and it caused preexisting conditions, to come to light. I was diagnosed with EDS, or Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, along with a host of other conditions. It caused a nearly 10 year lull, from me getting on the ice again. Mind you, during all of this, since my dad's death, I had stayed invested in the competitive figure skating world, via watching the competitions, and keeping up with the skaters. You had become a favorite, and I always loved to watch you skate. In late 2016, Yuri!!! ON ICE happened. I'm a HUGE anime fan, and a lover of pretty much all things Japanese and Korean, and several of my favorite voice actors were involved in YOI. That anime, saved my life, in more ways than one. Since that, I have tried to go skating as regularly as possible. I've lost nearly all muscle memory, and even have trouble trying to skate backwards, now, but I don't allow myself to get discouraged anymore. I just skate, to skate, because I'm able to love it again. You, are a huge part of that. Thank you so much, Adam. You'll never know the immense debt I owe you. 💗
Yay! Loved your Shallow performance! 🙌 Still waiting for On Ice Perspectives to post it on their channel. Is that going to be available anytime soon?? 🌈
My question also! I keep checking their channel, but still looking...it’s really important for those of us who want to see your skating now! I love your insta vids on the parking lot but we only get them for 24 hours! Can you save some of them on your page please, like J.P. did with your hilarious bunny episode with the rolling chair? I watched that a lot when it was the insta video and was thrilled to see it on his page shortly after it disappeared from there. Thanks!❤️
╰☆╮Adam, You're so entertaining. I'll totally watch this & support your advertisers! How about if you do another sing and skate? ╰☆╮ ★♪♫ Shine bright like a diamond! ♫♪★
The guy who filmed his performance recently said on instagram that he'd be releasing the full video on his RU-vid channel @on ice perspectives soon. Just letting you know.
Dear Adam, we finally watched the full video of your amazing skating to Lady Gaga's "Shallow" last December... It was really fantastic and breathtaking.. could you please make it your Exhibition gala routine, for the ice shows that you will probably participate in? I'm sure it's going to get the same reaction from the crowd, as Gaga-Cooper's Oscar perfomance had.. )))
Legit had the same trampoline experience as a kid but I saw my feet hit the trampoline in front of my face while my body was folded in half the wrong way. Fully a, “aaaand this is how I die moment”
Why do you not have your own show on cable? Your people need to get on this! Cable needs you this is a important time in our society and country. GET ON THIS use your Olympian poweres and get IT!
You're intelligent and funny and real, I'm trying to say you pack the brAINS, but also throughout this video there's a voice at the back of my mind saying, "Pretty, pretty, pretty, you're so pretty oh my GOD you're so pretty." I had to say it. You got it all. This channel will explode soon, Adam 👍
Wait what you are not being SPONSORED...by said designers that just want your money until the IRS comes a knocking on your door ❓❓❓😒 P.S. It takes a lot of money to look this cheap. - Steven Tyler (of Areosmith) Oooo I have a channel too... Channeling the voice of Moms Mabley as I quote Steven Tyler in my mind... help me 🤐
YAY YAY YAY YAY YAY!!!! I'm so excited for this content. Love you Adam. Btw, your autofocus was outta control, or maybe my eyes are going bad, oh well. 🌈🌈🌈😘😘😘🌈🌈🌈
"I don't think I have any regrets." Great attitude! I love it. I miss your performances! Any plans of coming here for ice shows, or maybe TV shows? Kanako Murakami is now very popular on Japanese TV (she is so wicked funny), and I would love to see you on her show. Love from Japan.
Also, thank you for the tip of watching Sarah Silverman, because I don't think she ever got a broadcast where I live (I certainly don't remember hearing about her or watching her program), but now there's RU-vid to help you find stuff that never appeared in your country. I don't know what I'll think about it yet, but if it's good, I'm sure I'll get her DVDs. Cheers!
I absolutely adore you. I have a question for you. If you went back and skated as part of an ice dance team, who would you chose for a partner? They can be male or female and a skater or someone who doesn’t skate but you wish did skate. I think you would be great if you did that.
The first advice=superb advice! -thank you @Adam Rippon for stating this simple truth. (I wished I'd been more forthcoming as a teenager, but I never dared to. So many lost chances to romance or friendship that just became wasted. Don't be shy, dare yourself to show yourself as who you truly are - and I bet you'll find people liking you more than before.
