I would love to see brands showcase their products on older women (50 and up) via photos displayed in Ulta, Sephora, all other cosmetics stores, as well as hair salons. All I see are young girls. They need to cater to all ages. And without filters.

I hope you see this reply because I work at JCPenney and we revamped our beauty space since Sephora left and there are GREAT products for mature skin. We also use older models on some of our marketing as well! There’s a couple skin care brands that come to mind immediately! Cosrx and prai beauty. We also carry everything from drug store pricing (elf) to high end (mirabella, Kim chi) and there’s some new stuff coming this year that Sephora and ulta carries!

One of the best pieces of makeup advice I got when I started getting heavily into it was to cold with shadows that contrast your eye color/skin tone the best and find out what pops for you as an individual. So far for me purple and red have been some of the better options for more bold makeup ❤

On your response to the politics opinion: you said supporting someone who kills dogs was a "dramatic example" but I think you prove such a good point. No one in their right mind would support harm of dogs, but they put so many human rights issues in the "oh that's just politics" box. But if you support a brand that funds conversion therapy leading to high suicide rates in LGBTQ youth.....that's a pretty dramatic impact. I just think so many people who have the privilege to ignore "politics" when it's the lives of real people don't know what they are talking about and just want to live in a bubble. Thank you for standing up for those of us who think it matters to see where our money goes.

Another beauty influencer ( ironic) made a statement that I agree with. Those who are easily heavily influenced are lacking in critical thinking skills. This applies to being easily influenced not just on beauty, clothing but influenced on views, purchases, hobbies, how they talk etc. This isn't like oh, I have been looking for a certain item so I'm watching vids about it and found one that seems good so I'll try it. But the over almost gullibility of excitement or maybe wanting to fit in because something is popular or going along with everyone else is saying just because that's what you are told vs actually looking into it.
@maryeckel9682
@maryeckel9682 4 месяца назад
The sad thing is, that describes the kids going to the beauty store all too well. Most of them haven't developed critical thinking to the point of filtering the content they consume. Of course, too many adults never learned how to do that, either. In the US, I blame the pressure to have kids pass standardized tests and not actually learn important things.
@Silly_fairy
@Silly_fairy 4 месяца назад
I believe that while nothing forcibly compels someone to buy something, it's undeniable that we're so heavily influenced that we often don't realize it anymore. I hear people say there's nothing wrong with a brand selling a product that "fixes" your insecurities, but I believe they're not seeing the full picture. In a capitalist society, brands profit more when more people buy, so naturally, they'll do whatever it takes to increase sales. That's where advertising comes in. For example, "with this serum, you won't have to worry about wrinkles any longer" implies that wrinkles are something you should worry about. We're socialized from a young age to worry about our aesthetics, learning what's "ugly" versus "pretty". I'd argue that insecurities based on aesthetics are more common in women because they're often praised for their appearance rather than their actions, taught to be pretty objects for the world, believing it's their purpose. I believe that trans people, through transitioning, can highlight many differences in how we're treated and how we internalize societal messages. Having experienced aligning with different gender roles and feeling pressure to conform to various ideals, they provide valuable insights. As a non-binary individual who was socialized to "act, think, and value" masculinity, my insecurities also evolved during my transitioning process. Being perceived as more feminine intensified pressures related to presenting as feminine, particularly concerning aesthetics like aging, skin texture, and delicacy. Paradoxically, a part of me finds joy in having these insecurities, as if they validate my trans identity, which seems absurd! I'm pretty sure these brands are targeting the insecurities of women and feminine-presenting individuals.
@handsoaphandsoap
@handsoaphandsoap 4 месяца назад
I also think Americans are just conditioned to be susceptible to advertisements. Throughout their whole life, they are consistently being advertised to, to a degree that you’re spending less time of your life not being advertised to than you are witnissing ads. It’s certainly true for other nationalities as well but the amount of ads Americans view vs the rest of the world is far far larger. Add on top of that their education system being designed to pump out work horses instead of fully realized adults and you’ve got a country full of gullible people that lack critical thinking skills.

About clean makeup, I really understand where people are coming from, but I really can't desire the end of this trend. I was raised in 'bold glamour'/y2k era, and I've grown into a "Not Like The Other Girls" teenager kind of making fun of who was “too girly” (that included skirts, make up, idk) and around last year I discovered that it was all due to how I've been thought that I wasn't pretty or my face shape wasn't good enough. My body wasn't the right type for skirts, my face wasn't the right tone for the make up trends and my facial structures were too soft and rounded for bold makeup... I guess I kind of hated, not the trends themselves, but the fact that I couldn't be included in them-or at least the idea that I couldn't. But clean makeup was easy to learn. It was like a kind introduction to show what could fit me not to look glamurous, but like myself. I started to see my face shape as cute, my downturned eyes as lovely and even my thin asf lips lol-through tips and tricks and "hacks", I learned how to feel good about the things I hated before, so that now I feel confident enough to try on new styles and shades and aesthetics-Because I'm already aware of what I am, what I'm not, and what I can look like. If you've read it until now, thank you for your attention and time LOL God bless y'all

THANK YOU for spreading awareness about the importance of knowing which politics a brand supports. There are a couple of companies I've always loved that I'm absolutely boycotting because their politics make me sick. Politics is in everything we do. Everything we buy. Politics affects EVERYONE'S LIVES. I wish people would wise up to this fact. It's incredibly naive not to be aware of it. 💜
@khills

IMO, it’s not naïveté that drives people to say this about politics, it’s being unhappy to realize brands support causes they don’t. And at least in America, the folks I typically hear saying they wishes brands/companies/sportsball teams/musicians/etc would stay out of politics are conservative folks unhappy that these entities aren’t supporting THEIR politics. 🤷🏼‍♀️

@@khillsI agree, but I think that goes both ways, not just conservatives. It’s such an interesting part of being human.

I think the reason that some people complain about brands being involved in politics is not because they are afraid that the brands wouldn't have the same views as them, I think it's because they don't care about important issues that are affecting certain minority groups because it's not affecting them. So they would rather not hear about it than have to admit that A) They don't care about those people and their rights; and B) They will continue to support those brands.

My unpopular opinion: people need to stop saying how much they hate influencers that lie or don't disclose adds etc. If they keep watching them. At the end of the day you choose who you watch and support and there are a lot of great and honest beauty influencers out there

Drag queen makeup may not be "innovative" but it fills a gap between regular and costume makeup. I was looking for a black gloss and Sephora had nothing (the salesperson tried to sell me a purple gloss as close enough( but Trixie Mattel has a great black gloss. Before, I probably would have gone to a costume makeup formula.

I love your expertise and your fabulous personality. As a professional MUA, I tell my private clients who come to me for consultation and guidance that wearing a foundation or tinted moisturizer is beneficial because it protects the skin from the environment. Start with a prepared face, apply and at night when you wash it off, the skin beneath has been shielded all day. People who do not wear foundation are doing themselves a disservice.

i wanna share my unpopular opinion: if a brand doesn’t cater to you/ doesn’t change their ways to fit your skin color. it’s not for you. some brands don’t listen to dark skin people to make better shades but if they aren’t willing to listen we should leave them alone
@ryanpriye1402
@ryanpriye1402 4 месяца назад
I don't think we should because we've fought so hard for inclusivity and making more options available for people with deeper skin tones. If people stop checking these brands then we're gonna end up the way things were before, when we could count the number of brands making deep shades on one hand.
@Julzableful
@Julzableful 4 месяца назад
Maybe, but I don't want you to have less choice than I do. If we're at a place where there's heaps of choice for you and your skin tone and there's heaps of choice for me and my skin tone, then we can ignore brands that aren't for us. Until you have plenty of choice, I'd like there to be fuss about mainstream brands in drugstores and beautu retailers and department stores that are too lazy and racist to even try.

Those who are jealous of influencers getting free stuff clearly do not understand the amount of work it takes to be an influencer who has enough followers to warrant free packages. There is content mapping, scheduling, recording, editing…hours and hours of work with a constant pressure to keep followers interested. It’s a full time job and let’s not even talk about the amount of hate and stupidity they have to deal with in comments and messages! Nah…you deserve every free package you get and there is NO way I’d trade!!

We should talk about politics more as humans, keeping your political stance hidden and only talking to people who have the same political mind set means you learn nothing about the other side. Politics aren’t just about sides or issues or disagreements, they actually shape and affect us, it’s like not talking about what you want for dinner with a group of your family or friends in case someone doesn’t want the pizza you want 🙈
@HannahMusic333
@HannahMusic333 4 месяца назад
I agree with you so much. Also, Robert, the way you think about brands and politics, is the way I feel about supporting influencers, or not. People love to say how much they hate this person or that person, but they still watch the videos about them and the drama. If you really don’t like them or their behavior, don’t give them the attention. If you give them attention, you are giving them money and power.

I wish not doing a full face of makeup was more normalized. Foundation is a pain for me because my skin tone will be different from what it is now depending on how much sun I get so in a few months the foundation I bought will be useless. Ofc I just dont wear foundation, but it would be cool to see people online doing an eye look and a swipe of lipstick and call it a day.

I'm 60, and I love makeup and bold colors! I can wear brighter, bolder colors without them looking "crazy," but I love neutrals so much as well! Since the pandemic, I've been working from home, and plan to do so indefinitely. This has given me the opportunity to up my skincare routine, and my skin looks absolutely great, especially for my age! I don't wear makeup most days, but I do wear a nice serum and skincare creams; they can really make a difference! Women today don't look their age, but regardless, I think you should wear whatever makes you feel good and confident and happy! I really enjoy some of the makeup tutorials, like Robert's, with great ideas on products and eye shadow looks, etc., and that you can literally order anything you want online. I'm having a hard time with the "10-year-olds in Sephora" and recording TikTok videos at that age. I feel like they should be focusing on other things, like getting an education, socializing in person with friends and doing things "off line." I think this whole TikTok/Instagram culture is just crazy - it's too much, and I'm worried about them (as us as a society), going forward. I don't think this is healthy. Some amount of screentime, etc is fine - but like with anything else, excessive use and obsessive attention to one's appearance and the need for "likes" and "followers," and the excessive buying of cosmetics/skincare at such a very young age is just disturbing to me.

But that's always been Bobbi Brown's aesthetic (I'm talking about the woman, not her original brand of makeup, although that too). She got her start in NYC in the 1980s evangelizing nude, natural looks amidst a glittering sea of neon. She left Bobbi Brown Cosmetics almost a decade ago, and it's still clearly part of that brand's DNA. Now she has built it into Jones Road. Bobbi Brown has never been about bold looks. "Your skin but better" might be IT Cosmetics motto, but it's been Bobbi Brown's raison d'etre. Her vision has been exceedingly consistent over four decades.

Happy to hear your opinion on eye makeup for us older women. I have a drawer of beautiful Ben Nye makeup from my younger days as a stage dancer. Maybe I’ll break out some of those beautiful colors and shock my makeup free friends. They’ve made a point of bragging they no longer wear makeup, as though it’s a virtue. I find applying eye makeup so soothing and meditative, yet have not yet found a nice foundation that’s suitable for my 70 year old skin. I love my silver, white and grey streaky hair, but my skin is a fair olive and it’s hard to match. 🥴. I love your channel. ♥️

I'm 59 and when I was growing up and first using makeup, it was just makeup, not "drugstore" makeup. These were just what everyone wore - Maybelline, Revlon, Cover Girl, etc. If you had to go to the mall, to the department store, to find it, it was not considered regular people makeup, it was some exotic high end stuff, you know? (Your experience may have been different if you were wealthier). The only time I ever spent stupid money on cosmetics was in the 80s when Clinique came along and after a couple of years of that I realized what a ripoff it was. I went back to normal everyday brands that have stood the test of time and have never looked back. I absolutely will not fall for the flavor of the moment brands, regardless of who is behind them or talking them up. Will I buy and try super affordable products on a whim? You bet I will :-)
