Perfectly said! Those vacuum cleaner images were of my room in my youth - about 60% of what you saw was sold off. It was such a weird weight to have removed, especially after moving cross country and then across town twice in 7 years.

Thanks! There were about 3 or 4 more I had planned, with one even made. I realized during post that they either didn't quite fit the theme, or could be taken the wrong way as there were positive angles to them, based on who you were referencing. I was laughing my ass off trying to take the photos. I don't know how people can do it on a regular basis and not lose their soul. XD

Jason, this video was on point! People asking how much I paid for this or that, or if I play everything I have in my collection are common questions I get asked often. I don’t mind answering, but I always make sure to let them know the following: I collect not just to collect, but to enjoy my games as well. I play everything I own when I can get to it. I love experiencing games I never was able to when I was younger. Getting a game for $10 versus $150 (you know which one, lol) is always amazing! If a get a great deal, awesome! If I have to pay a little more to have it & support a retro store, okay. The thrill of adding another piece to the collect is always amazing, whether it be a game people want to crap on or a master piece. 👍🏻 Thank you for all you do! 💯 Oh! I’ve never played Mass Effect. 😅 That’s on the to do list though. 😃 I remember going to midnight releases! Last one I went to was for KH3. 😢 I loved seeing all the people there hyped for the new game. Some of my games still have stickers on them (my copy of Tomba has a Hollywood sticker and LSSSC has an EB Toys for example) those stickers I’ll definitely leave on. Nostalgia. 😭 The Misadventures of Tron Bonne for $4.99?!!! Whoa!!!
@GameRaveTV
@GameRaveTV 5 месяцев назад
Yep - that Tron Bonne price tag was back when it was still "the game no one one wanted because it wasn't Mega Man" and not "OMFG RARE HIDDEN GEM". Perspective is amazing. =)
@GoodVibeCollecting
@GoodVibeCollecting 5 месяцев назад
@@GameRaveTV The early 2000's were a great time for collecting. Before everything became a "Hidden Gem" and "Rare" as you said. Can you decode that EB Games price tag on Tron Bonne? I want to say 2001?
@GameRaveTV
@GameRaveTV 5 месяцев назад
@@GoodVibeCollecting These were the "pre-date" stickers that EB used. When we merged with GameStop and took over their sticker structure dates were added to the stickers. The only info on here is the SKU and in OS name. As for timing, it would easily be 2001, maybe 2000. Capcom was already dumping games at their website for $15 to $20 around then as confirmed by an archive.org hunt.

I could post a 20 page essay comment, but I'll be up all night typing. Anyway, from this video I initially a Vacuum Cleaner in 2002 before I went exclusively CIB in 2007 (and essentially rebought half my MegaDrive collection at the time. The Focused side of me is for Cyberpunk 2077. I remember EXACTLY where I was when it was first announced on Thursday May 26, 2012, and waited an EXCRUCIATING 8 1/2 years for it. The game was everything I had ever dreamed of plus a lot more. It literally changed my life. Anyway, I bought almost all the official Merch before launch (though I didn't buy the Scorpio console and Durango controller until last year), and all three Collector's Editions. I have now spent almost $3500 just on Cyberpunk merchandise, and I have bought the game brand new 16 times (1 was for a co-worker to play). 4 of those copies were at $10 a piece at separate sales at Best Buy and Target a month or so apart. Let's see here.... Orbis: Sealed CE, 3 sealed copies, and an open copy that came with a bundle of merch Durango: Sealed CE, and 2 sealed copies PC: Open CE, open "physical" copy (it has the soundtrack at least), and "Ultimate Edition" via GOG. Gonzalo: 2 sealed "Ultimate" copies (not really as you need to download Phantom Liberty off PSN, and 2.1 patch dropped same day. It's 2.0 out of the box). Anaconda: 2 sealed "Ultimate" copies (Phantom Liberty is at least included on disc, but still 2.0 out of the box). Yeah, 15 copies of the game, but they all look amazing in The Shrine. Thanks to satellite collecting, I FINALLY completed my 32X collection this year, as I now own every game (except Web of Fire of course. Will be getting a reproduction cart). 4 of them are the MegaDrive versions, and I have been on a huge Mega CD binge these past few weeks buying anything good for it if I get a good price. I have since bought all the Mega CD versions of the CD 32X games, and I am SO HAPPY!!!! I LOVE the 32X too death, and have been dreaming of having a full set ever since I first bought mine back in August 2001. I became a "Patience" collector during the Orbis and Durango, but you could really go back to early 2011, when the Uber version of Dragon Age came out. I had already played the game at launch, and bought all the DLC and Expansion, but after the Uber version came out, I never bought DLC a for a game ever again (still waiting on Dragon Age II with everything on disc you cowards!!!). Keep up the good work Jason!!!!

It's a fun club! Outside of the Xbox 360, it's why I've stuck to PlayStation all these years; the far better exclusives. In fact, the 360 is the only MS console I own! I only ever had the OG 1 prior. Bowed out of the MS universe after that. Thanks for the compliment!

Fantastic video, Jason! I don't know what category my collection would fall under... retro/casual, sometimes Vacuum Cleaner...lol. Most of my games were bought in hindsight after the original run of those different consoles. I usually buy games I have a strong nostalgic pull towards, whether I originally rented the game, or a friend or my brother had the game and sold it. I have little bits of collections on several systems. I just got my Polymega Deluxe bundle this month and just bought two TurboGrafx-16 games on eBay this last couple of weeks, which are the first TG-16 games I have ever owned. The same with N64... I bought Gauntlet Legends as my first game for that platform, because I wanted at least one game to have for the Polymega module. The Polymega system is really been an incentive to check out games for systems that I never originally owned and brought back my interest in buying older games again. I would love to expand my collection for certain consoles, especially NES. I have a lot of gaps in my game library. It's all fun... glad I have what I have and love adding to it when I get a chance. Thanks for the thought provoking video topic. I enjoyed it.
@GameRaveTV

Sounds like you're nostalgia library is a good category to add. And yes, the Polymega has that effect! I was so happy to add more games to it, if they sort out the issue with KI Gold, I might rebuy that. =)

For me, a lot of the fun of game collecting is the hunt. Finding games at Goodwills, local game stores, or at the occasional GameStop is a lot more fulfilling then just buying a game online, especially if its something I've been wanting to play. It can take a lot of time doing it this way (putting me firmly in the patience category), but it tends to be cheaper and is a lot more exciting I think. Could I just have bought Legend of Dragoon online when I wanted to try it out? Yep. Did I find it a while after at a thrift store, all four discs stuck inside of a PS3 case? You bet!
@GameRaveTV
@GameRaveTV 5 месяцев назад
Ha! That's a fantastic story find for Legend of Dragoon. It would take me an hour or so just to reach a standard game store that I could look around in that wasn't a GameStop. Sadly they usually have everythng behind glass or 'gutted' like GS/EB, so it's really hard to variant hunt. 99% of my hunting is online now since it's all in full view.

Number #11 - "The Minty Collector" Someone who not just collects games but wants them to be CIB, first print, and in mint condition. This includes having all of it's original inserts. Someone who will go as far as to open a sealed game so that the game meets those conditions. That's definitely me. :P You forgot the "My game collection is worth how much!?" thumbnail. LOL
@GameRaveTV
@GameRaveTV 5 месяцев назад
Quite a few thumbnails got cut. I was originally going to have a "WE'RE MAKING A MUSEUM" (There is no museum) version, but I felt people might take it the wrong way with Strong, NVM, and the one other one actually existing. =) And ain't nothing wrong with minty collecting! I've been snagging a few games in sealed condition because they were super cheap. But I'll gladly forgo a missing reg card if it means the price drops $20 to $50, heh.

I'm a Focused and Patient collector. I collect games that interest me (RPGs, especially JRPGs, FMV games, some of the must have classics, and the quirky diamonds in the rough type games). And I rarely buy games on day one, save for the ones I really want (Mass Effect, Fallout, etc). I've been collecting since a teenager basically, and my collection looks pretty good on display. I could do better in playing it though haha
@GameRaveTV

We all could do better in playing. For me, it's a hard balance of site updates, variant research, cheat code checks, and then actually playing. We're in the same camp for ME and Fallout. I actually started another run through ME3 on the 360. :D

I’d say I’m a focused and subset collector. I have all kinds of games retro, expensive, rare and quirky. Currently I’m going after all point and click games for the PS1, especially mouse compatible. After that it’ll be light fun games.

Yay! Yeah, I love subset'ing stuff. It makes it more fun to track when you can get a bit more granular and make the baby steps that lead to the bigger hauls. And I know you meant 'light gun' but now I need to do a video on 'light fun' games. The ones where you sort of enjoy them. XD

I have a little over 500 games in my collection covering all kinds of platforms. I haven't been to any game stores so far this year, and to be honest, I've been content. But I'm seriously considering calling into work tomorrow because a copy of Raiden Project on PS1 just turned up at a local shop.

That game is worth AT LEAST a week off work. :D Raiden Project was one of my original 'corner stones' for the collection in the early days. I am terrible at it, but my god I adore it. Not to mention, 500 is impressive AND a nice round number. You could play a game a week and be well fed for almost 11 years!

Great video Jason. I definitely fit in the focused category. And I don't buy games on day 1 as much as I used to any more, but if there's a game/developer that I REALLY want to support and see do well, then I'll buy/pre-order it day 1. I've always thought about it, and I'm glad I collect the way I do. I spend money on games I specifically want and have the desire to actually play. I feel like if I just collected whatever then I'd have tons of games just sitting there that I have no actual interest or passion for with no urge to play them. (Nothing wrong with people that collect like that, just not my style personally) So I don't end up spending *as* much money on a ton of games. I only go for stuff that looks cool and fun to me. And it keeps my collection a little more lean and focused. I just have a kind of wide taste of games so I play a lot of different games. Also, I'm a bit in the Exclusives club too. I'm mainly a PlayStation fan so I buy most all of my games on PlayStation systems. But I'll buy whatever exclusives that interest me on another console and I really enjoy doing that. I really like my overall collection. There's a few more games here and there I would like to own at some point, but I'm happy and blessed with the games I currently own. Not going for full sets of anything so hopefully some day I can call my collection personally complete and just try to find more time to play more of them. Before these prices get any more out of control. 😂

Honestly, if I wasn't so enamored with the PS1, I would be in the "just picking up what I want" 100%. My modern console collections are super tiny. Because I love replaying games, I don't feel the need to wander off to far into the weeds.
@Desmund808
@Desmund808 5 месяцев назад
I have close to about 100 ps1 games. But I make it a point to play through them when I can. I definitely only buy a new game if it’s something I’d be interested in now, years ago it would be “oh look a ps1 game, let me snag that for my library”. I’m currently 10 hours playing through Suikoden. But I do take pride in my collecting and have all of them black and cib, I change out to new jewel cases if It was all beat up. I’m a collector at heart with other hobbies, so it’s quality over quantity wins the race for me in this hobby.
@GameRaveTV
@GameRaveTV 5 месяцев назад
Sounds like the perfect set-up! No lie, if I had never become "game-rave", I would easily be the simply hidden gamer, except all my games would be CIB in a drawer. Outside of the PSX, Saturn, and DC, almost all my other libraries are quaint. I love to replay them....some....too much....so there's no need for more when I enjoy what I have.

Untl recently I would have fallen somewhat in the vacuum cleaner category, but I´m currently in the process of a Purging most of my collection. I don´t see the point anymore in keeping Systems like the Wii U or Switch around because I might eventually want to play a game I owned and didn´t touch in years. I either sold am about to sell more than half of what I owned at the start of the year, and the games I do keep are either highly curated (like the PAL Press Kit for Gran Turismo 4 is just way too cool to sell) or is on PC and PSP since those are the Systems I still care about and really want a collection for. Systems I do want to keep around I try to find a way to have a digital Library, my Dreamcast and PS1 both have a Disc Drive Emulator Device, the PS2 is softmodded and equipped with a massive HDD to have all the games ever might want to play on there, I´m currently looking into options my options for the Saturn. At the end of the day, I came to the realization that I see myself as a gamer, and not a collector. I have no problem in emulating games on my PC or even a Handheld Emulation Console and I don´t see the point in paying the prices some games are currently at.
@GameRaveTV
@GameRaveTV 5 месяцев назад
I'm a converted vacuum cleaner. I was....*bad* in my youth. Like you I woke up and realized I wasn't the collector of games, but a collector of knowledge about the games. There were probably 2000 or more games I sold off a decade ago, and I've been slowly refining the library down even more. But everything PSX stays, for sure. ^_^ And ain't nothing wrong with emulation either!

losing it at the faux youtube clickbait thumbnails, LOL! but in all seriousness a great video. my only question is thoughts on reproductions? most of my collection is legit stuff, but a couple of my saturn pickups and a small section of my dreamcast games were reproduction copies mostly because the real games were prohibitively expensive on the second-hand market. (like the mrs. wanted berserk on dreamcast and new copies were in the triple digits, no way could I justify that on a somewhat limited budget. also helps with text heavy Japanese imports featuring fan-translations, like Saturn SOTN with the new 4M rom hack)
@GameRaveTV
@GameRaveTV 5 месяцев назад
Ha, thanks for the compliment on the thumbnails. =) Personally, I don't bother with reproductions from a financial angle. If I can't afford the real thing, why would I pay to still not have it? There's also the problem with repro production creators who don't clearly make it different enough from the real deal, or steal other's 'free' fan work without permission and make a buck off of it at the original creator's expense. Especially with stolen translations. However, from an observer looking in, I can totally understand having them for a nice shelf display, especially if you get to slap it into the appropriate real hardware. Some of the custom work has been incredible to see and appreciate - ESPECIALLY the long box ones. I can just get by with the unlabelled CDR, though.

@@GameRaveTV yeah that's mostly the reason I'd do it, so it at least looks nice in the collection. not really ever planning on selling any of it, so being a facsimilie never really factored much into the equation. and I usually only reserve it for stuff that's going for crazy money on the secondhand market I wouldn't be able to afford anyway (panzer dragoon saga on saturn, for example) but thanks for explaining your perspective on it!
